Dear Friends,
Let us vote for 'Adi Rakkamma' from THALAPATHI as our choice for the World's Top Ten Songs poll conducted by BBC!
I am suggesting this song because if in case the BBC people listen to the nominated songs, they will feel knocked out on hearing our Maestro's 150 Vioins' Strings Ensemble!
Let us all do it at:

Yours Always Musically,
Vijay.

Honestly, the victory of Raakkammaa Kaiya thattu will do more good to Indian pop music than for IR, or IR fans. And ARR is already in a position where he doesn't need this recognition now.
And who knows, probably would become more popular and would be the 'superstar' of the world. Proabably a lot of Japanese fans voted for Rakkamma and that is why it is probably No.1.

Opps Sorry missed the most important word in the sentence.
'probably would become more popular' should read
'probably rajini would become more popular'.
I guess some of the indian site should host the full movie clip now.

haris, unbelievable sound!!!!! thanks for the site. i send it with my vote.
Jeera, i think Rajni was great pre 1990' Post 1990 he shows lack of energy and interest. Again, the video i think asking too much, the song may lose the color because the picturisation was only just okay and also the color (red tinge) throughout was a strain.

Andrea Whitley,

Check the news out there...
Illayaraja foot-tapper leads BBC World Service Top 10
Adi Rakamma featured in Dalapati, Mani Ratnam's runaway hit of the Nineties
Adi Rakkamma, kaiya thattu, the foot-tapper rendered by S P Balasubramaniam and Swarnalatha, from Mani Ratnam's Tamil megahit Dalapati, starring Rajnikanth, leads BBC World Service's Top Ten list for the 70th anniversary celebrations.
Illayaraja scored the music for the film, a runaway hit in the Nineties.
Also on the Top Ten list, based on entries from 112 countries, are two other Indian songs. One is Vande Mataram, composed and sung by A R Rahman, at the fifth slot. Another Rahman-scorer Chaiyya chaiyya is at the seventh place.
The Indian three are from among the 1,000-odd songs in pop and rap, Western classical and African tribals listed in thousands of votes that have thus far been recorded.
The final list will be run by BBC World Service December 21, according to a BBC release.

Subject: BBC poll 50 day....
if maybe 200 or 100 of us vote 40 50 times a day, its possible for
rahman to lead the poll...i did 50 votes today and i'll continue til
the dateline,,,,,,so u guys please atleast 30 times a day...//
this is a posting from yahoo groups.Play it fair chaps-if ARR comes first, there is always going to be the stigma.I will definitely forward this posting to BBC organizers.I would not be surprised if they take a dim view of such attitude.

another one-dont you guys have any shame?
pushing chaiya chaiya which ,as admitted by ARR himself was a 'divine inspiration ' from a Nusrat fateh ali khan's song-so it is not even a original song from him and you want this to be the top song?

this one takes the cake-
one-vote for song number 2 so that rakkamma is pushed to second place-what attitude from ARR fan groups-and these people are quoting patriotism as the reason they voted for vandhe matharam-talk about hypocrisy!
and point number 2-this song was not a hit in north! so that song is not worth anything!whatever that is a hit in south and not a hit in North must be rubbish. That is the attitude.Talk about north-south divide.
I have not heard any of the non-Indian songs in that group(except cher's song)-does that mean that
the other songs are all rubbish?
