And BTW, "Voltaire is an idiot" is as correct a statement as "Anything that is too stupid to be spoken is sung." (purely within this context)

//"Bharath either something's wrong wit the females u mix wit or something's wrong wit u, which makes them feel uncomfortable when u talk to them about their anatomy. "//
i was referring to their reaction when seeing some scenes in movies or during howard sterns show etc.. not their reaction when i talk to them..
i am okay with them not participating or remaining silent or even saying they are uncomfortable with it.. but branding those as evil and saying " avan pechu kaa" kind of things is stupid..
if goundan was there everywhere he wud have said to those chicks " yei stop... ennadi silithikire".. but unfortunately u dont have a goundan when you need one :-)

Tigger : Thanks for that song lyrics. It is indeed poetry at its best.
I remember a similar song "Thanjavur mannu eduthu..." from a murali movie, MD was Deva. I dont remember the film's name
VGS: Well said friend. I too like that song "Entha pennilum illatha..". I think it was a kushboo and raja song, in a barathiraja directed movie.
If I say that you are correct about WhyNot being a pervert / dull head, that would be an understatement. This person does not know what he/she is talking but would like to poke his/her nose in all threads and disagree at random, rather stupidly without knowing facts. I started PAs only after reading or watching WhyNot/ROTFL/Tzone posts in threads. There was even a useless thread about WhyNot vs TwilightZone (two birds of the same feather) started by another dull head.
I too meant that Voltaire was a bad (idiotic) reference in this context of Uvamaigal (the meaning of this word was GREEK or LATIN to WhyNot who still wanted to say something, even if it was stupid)
WhyNot : Why don't you shut up and not post in this thread, when you dont know the meaning of what is being discussed here. Ignorance is bliss and that is very WhyNotttttyyyyyyyyyyyy. Nee YonittuvAramaa karuviTumvAcalaa nu theriyadhu, anaal nee our Mannantai. Go figure these out.
Look at yourself first before looking at Bharath. Not everyone in this thread is a pervert like you.
I am glad that people like vgs, and bharath have realised that pretty fast.

Guys, cool it.
Firstly, I'd like to know what gave u the idea I was looking at the lyrics in a perverted way??
Was it my direct translation of one song title into English and the reference to 'a_s_s' in another example. If u think tat is being perverted, then I ask u the question u asked me jus now....
What is it wit u people tat makes the mention of the anatomy makes u think it is being perverted?
Oh and I'm sorry isnt it what this thread was discussing? Can u honestly tell me tat none of the other songs quoted before my post (wit Voltaire's quote) had no reference to the 'restricted zones' of the female anatomy? So r u then saying (along the same logic tat led u to conclude I am perverted) those songs are perverted as well??
My choice of a_s_s and puthu kottai district were an attempt to
1)make bharath realise tat females r not averse to talking abt sex or anatomy (but as u can see from this case they risk being called perverted when they do mention it)
2)make a light hearted joke (it sounded funny to me)
vgs, going back to ur song title, it does directly translate to saying "something which all women dont have" and NOT "something which all women dont have which I have found in u".
When I stated tat quote, I did mention tat I got the idea from the
1)lyrics and
2)song titles mentioned in tis thread.
And I meant tat literally. Meaning I was reminded of the quote from the lyrics tat were mentioned in the thread and the song titles tat were mentioned in the thread. Get it? I was not saying tat I knew the remaining lyrics in those songs and got the idea from those. Hell no. My conclusion was based purely from the sentences tat were mentioned here on tis thread, and I stated as much.
"You dont know what "avayangal" is, you don't know what an "uvamai" is and you want to comment about a thamizh lyric..."
Does it help tat the lyrics I was commenting on did not contain either words and I understood perfectly every other Tamil word menioned prior to my post wit tat quote?
Bharath, I do not find these lyrics evil. I was not branding them as such either. I hope u get the idea. I dont know where u get the idea tat I found them evil or perverted. Maybe u guys r feeling a bit defensive and tensed up for no reason.
Tigger, thanks for taking the trouble to write out all the lyrics. But honestly, u didnt have to. Reading the remaining lyrics in tat song convinces me even more of the saying tat words too dumb to be spoken are sung. Honestly tigger, wud u tell ur wife such things about her anatomy/ mannerisms/whatever else wit a straight face? And if u did wud she listen to u wit a straight face? (btw, u dont have to answer tat qestion). If u did attempt to tell her tis, wudn't u rather phrase it in a poem, so it doesn't sound so silly? Tat was the point of my quote. When it sounds too dumb to be spoken, u sing it...simply so it doesnt sound tat dumb anymore. (I never used words like perverted, crass etc)
God, despite ur heartfelt condemnation of me, I'm flattered tat ur using the acronym PA which I coined. (I better point out I'm being sarcastic here) Everyone here wud only know wat PAs r bcos I mentioned them about half-dozen times.
I'd like u to give me examples when I disagreed without knowing facts. I did not disagree wit anything where tis thread is concerned cos as far as I know, it doesn't have anything debatable here. If ur still thinking tat I am condemning the lyrics, then u still have not understood anything I have jus said.
In fact God, judging by ur choice of PAs, I'd think u r a full-time pervert cos unlike others who simply use terms like 'idiot', 'moron', etc, u make very telling choices (which IMO reflects ur godly personality).
I don't care how dumb u find me or others in this forum. I dont find u very bright either despite ur arrogance about ur knowledge in music or poetry or Tamil. You can save urself the trouble of trying to dictate to me wat I shud do in tis forum, cos ur a shining example to everyone on wat not to be doing.

you flatter yourself sweet-heart if u think I translated it only for you! :) I did it for others who might not have heard the song or might have forgotten the lyrics.
BTW I did not read her full rebuttal, it was too long, but guys give her a break. Let's stick to the topic and discuss the songs. Forget her..

(with a chuckle and tongue firmly in cheek)
you may be an atheist but why go out of the way and condemn God ...! do we say bad things about atheists..
now why bring god and other things in the picture... oh my god she is commiting blasphemy

See, you have just proved again that you don't have the foggiest idea about what you are talking about. We are talking here about poems, and in a poem, you don't take the words literally but instead try to get the whole picture (which the poet may not state explicitly). I have tried to give this "whole picture" in my previous post. That is why I asked you if you have heard this song completely. You have no business to jump to unwarranted conclusions based on just what the first line alone says. The question here is not about vulgarity of this lyric (or for that matter the other songs discussed so far), it is about your ability (or the lack of it) to comprehend the intricacies of a poem.
"Does it help tat the lyrics I was commenting on did not contain either words and I understood perfectly every other Tamil word menioned prior to my post wit tat quote? "
No, it does not help. If you need translation for such words, well..I would'nt like to comment on your knowledge of thamizh but I can quite clearly see that you are not qualified to make the comments that you did make.
Anyway, I am done with you on this topic and I am moving on. Good luck !

Guys, do not forget TR the lyricist. He was also great in Pen varnanai. The song "Moongilile Paattisaikkum" from Raagam Thedum Pallavi contains lines like
"Senkarumbu chaarum
sevvithazhil thaane
Inippenum suvaiyai kattrukkondathu"
"Maathu ithazhidathile
maathulankani
muththai sivappaakkave
maathavam seithathu
Aval varam tharave senniramaanathu"
You would have heard lyrics that imply "maathulai pola sivantha ithazhkal", "senkarumbu chaaru pola inikkum ithazhkal" etc. But TR implies that it is actually the other way around ! This song is great just from the lyrics point of view alone.

"in a poem, you don't take the words literally but instead try to get the whole picture (which the poet may not state explicitly)"
Classic vgs. That is what I meant by:
"Anything that is too stupid to be spoken is sung."
Get it? If you speak in plain language (imagine jus saying a poem like talking rather than reciting it), it doesn't make sense cos everything u say sounds literal and hence stupid. You need the 'song' to turn it to a poem.
btw whether it is explicitly stated or not depends on whether is a metaphor or a simile. The examples I cited and most of the songs quoted in this thread so far were similes (explicity stated). Hence the saying made even more sense to me.
As for the song title that I quoted, ur getting the wrong idea. I was trying to defend my translation of it into English (which u found offensive, as I gathered from ur previous post) and not trying to tell u that I had made a conclusion on the whole song based on the first line alone.
I do not expect everyone to agree wit me on this saying. However it wud be good if u took a moment to consider what it actually meant before leaping to condemn it and me for my alleged lack of understanding. I was expressing my viewpoint or my observation on this. You guys need not react wit such paranoia as if I had condemned ur choice of songs. And I assume the reason for tis was probably the use of the word 'stupid' in the quote...talk about taking things literally.
btw vgs thx for tat relatively civil post.

Saw the movie Veera for the first time (and probably the last time !)..I thought Konji Konji was a great song with very good lyrics...but towards the end came across another song "vadi vethalai paaku" picturised on Roja and Rajini...
Dont know if it is me but i dont see the avayanagal or the uvamayagal in this song :)
i dont mean to be cheezy but a couple of lines definitely stand out (in my dull perverted head perhaps :) ) ...(there were probably more)
"puthisa sennja paniharam"
edithiko edithko edithiko
"kadicha konjam pasi aarum"
kadichiko kadichiko kadichiko
The above lines were accompanied by equally raunchy anatomical movements..possibly the "uvamaigal" of the anatomical part concerned :)
i cannot stop laughing while i type this...but please this is one of those types of lyrics which can neither be said to a man/woman or sung to him/her :) !!!!
one of those types which fall under the category:
coarse, crass, gross, obscene, lecherous, libertine, lustful, salacious, satyric
group of songs i guess
any idea who is behind this wonderful set of lyrics ??
