What is Contribution? It means doing some thing that has never been done before. Or playing a significant role. In Thamizh, the word that comes to mind is "puratchi."
I believe every aspect of our great Isai Gnani has been explored in this forum except for a particular genre of songs. In this particular kind of songs, Ilayaraja is the mudisoodaa mannan. No one from MSV, KVM, ARR can touch Ilayaraja in this matter.
Okay, enough of this, let me get to the matter at hand. I urge all Fans, Fanatics, Dissenters and everyone else to contribute to this thread. Let me do the Pillayar Suzhi:
1. Nethu rathiri yemma (ursurpassed description of what happened)
2. Nilaa kaayuthu (who would have thought that munungals can be put to tune)
3. Antha nilavathaan naa kaiyule pudichen (by the master himself)
4. Eduthu vach paalum virichu vacha paayum (if music can be sexy, this is it)
5. Maaman oru naal malliyapoo koduthaan (innocent but deadly)
6. Orampo orampo rukkumani vandi varuthu (no doublespeak here - every thing is direct)
7. Raathiriyil poothirukkum (what a romatic song!)
8. Vaada vaattuthu (yet another masterpiece by the master himself)

Very nice Gowri! I liked it! Really.
BTW, there are a couple of lines in one of IR's songs which are really disgusting when compared to a similar situation in an old song. The lines are:
IR sang this song:
"...appanum aathaaLUm sEraama pOna
neeyumdhaan porakka mudiyumaa..." - the lines make one puke.
The old song's lines:
"... thandai thannaiye thaai thodaa vidil
neeyum illaiye naanum illaiye"
The question is how come IR even accepted these lines let alone sing them! Is this a sample of IR's taste?!

Yes "e", you are on the right track.
But the IR of today is a shadow of his former self.
Some people have taken offense to Puthu vellai mazhai ingu pozhigindrathu of Roja. But this song is nothing compared to Aazha kadalil thediya muthu, aasai sugathil thodnriya muthu and one more song by KJJ I can't remember off hand.

guys ..guys..this is really wrong..why waste your energies in the negative direction ? IR must have done 4000 songs..if only 25% matches your taste there are 1000 songs to listen to ..have you listened to these songs ? enjoyed the nuances in them ? Probably not. Then why get hungup on a few songs, like this. MD'ing is business but some people try to make some intellectual contribution as well..no doubt IR has done this. Is Nehru or Gandhi or Einstein flawless personalities ? No. You appreciate a person for the good things he/she has done overall.
If you have a fav MD, please listen to his/her works fully and then share with others what you liked in it. Dont try to dig up dirt on other MDs. This is a really bad attitude.
There are other threads where there are some interesting info shared there. Please participate in such threads and share your thoughts. Ask questions about things you dont know. Lets make this a nice place where we enjoy / learn stuff.

Well, this thread has turned out to be a good reference centre & excellent source for quotes, to be applied for good use in future, next time someone talks about latest MDs leading to the deterioration of tfm lyrics into vulgarity and crudeness, whereas they have been long upheld and protected by the MDs of 50s-80s, etc etc.

One common factor among all the recent vulgar nos is..VM.
that song in telugu(manasu palikke mauna geetham neeve)became manasu mayangum from sippikkul muthu(swathi muthyam in telugu)telugu speaking freinds can translate this lovely song-which is a decent lyric(you are the silent song breaking my heart is rough translation of first line)-

whynot - MD's have a huge influence on what goes into a song.
Frankly speaking, the late 70s and early 80s were the worst years as far as "dirty" lyrics were concerned.
And it is a fact that AR Rahman has single-handledly almost brought total decency to TFM.

I said "almost" which means that vulgarity during ARR's season is minimum and not non-existent.

BTW, there is a vast difference in the lyrical content of sinthiya venmani sippikul muthaache and sippi irukkuthu muthum irukkuthu.
Sinthiya venmani means 'white "pearls" that have been spilled.' How much more explicit can one get?
