Let me start this one.(It had been there previously pls. forgive me!)
"Ezhu swarangalukkul ethanai paadal..
Ithaya surangathul ethanai kelvi...
Vaazhum manitharukkul ethanai salanam.."
Wow! Beautiful voice!

Is this song: Pullimaanpole Thulliththulli Odum Kannimaan Nadai Enge (Inge?) - by VJ (for SG) from Maanthoppu Kiliye??
And -
Do you have a file for Soppanaththil Sindhu Padiththaen? (VJ/SPB)
Could you please share if you do?

Good to see you post here after a long time. Hope you will join the discussions again!

Naaz,
Around 1979-80 Vani sang a bunch of lovely songs with rural flavor in some obscure movies.
puLLimAn pOla
thumbaippU mugaththil
EnammA sivanthathu
paccai vayalinil vAlaippeNNE
etc.
I am not sure what movies these songs are from. One of them may be "vEli thANdiya veLLAdu" (Shobha?/Saritha?).
There is also a duet with Jayachandran in the movie "Panjabootham"(Sivakumar?,Meera), I think. It goes something like "rAsAththi ...". That is a very nice song. There is an amazing duet with Seerkazhi Govindarajan. I believe it is from "uLLaththil kuzhandhaiyadi"(Rojaramani?). It is "kaNNukku nI oru kannippoNNu, en karuththukku nI veRum paccai maNNu". A great song.
I don't have "soppanaththil" now. But I can probably find it. I will let you know when I do.

Yes, there are so many lost and obscure films that have good songs. There is another film Aadugal Nanaigindrana which had a memorable VJ solo: "Ennadhan Indha Mounam, Sanidhanaththil, Indha Neraththil, Unakkendha Dhyanaththil Gavanam..."
I think the MD was MSV? Can't say for sure.
I have heard the Kannukku Ni Oru Kannipponnu duet a very long time ago. Thanks for reminding me.
There was this film with SV Sekhar/Ramya Krishnan (I think it was her debut in tamizh) which also had a "rural" ish song: "Aathora Nilave, Agaya Malare, Irezhu Vayase, Neeraduthey..." Music was by SG, I know that much. But the name of the film escapes me.
I hope you find sopannaththil - nijaththil!

Naaz,
I don't remember the song "enndahAn indha mounam". Did "AdugaL naniginRana" have Roopa in it? Do you remember movies like "andharanggam UmaiyAnadhu", "Umai kanavu kaNdAl", etc. I wish someone will unearth songs from these movies. Who knows what kind of gems that may bring out.
Ramya Krishnan's first movie is "veLLai manasu", I think.
A "rAsAththi.." song just came to mind.
JC: en rAsAththi
oru rOsAppU
en santhOsham kaNNE
un sagavAsamE
VJ: vAsam vechchAn pUvOdu
pAsam vechchAN nenjOdu
pazhaga vechchAn unnOdu
oNNodu oNNAgi oNNachchu...
What movie is the song from?

Umai kanavu kandal has
"Ravikai selai vangi tharen rapagala pesuvom, mayakathoda neeyum nanum kathal paatu paduvom".MD-SG
Adugal Nanaigindrana had roopa and vijay babu.MD- was SG or ChandraBose certainly not MSV.more likely SG.
VeLLai manasu had Rajesh and Ramyakrishnan i think, not SV Sekar.
Neel
The pallavi would sound similar to Srirangano,Srideviyo, vadivelano ,Deivanayo
Yaar vanthu piraparo kannana en selvame!(also by SG)

Vellai Manasu is right! That was the film I had in mind.
I have heard of Andharangam Umaiyanadhu and Umai Kanavu Kandal. I might have even seen the films at a prescreening or television. I remember the latter more distinctly. It was advertised forever, and the gigantic cut-out banner was quite prominent on Anna Salai (in Madras, across from Safire) for many months.
Another PJC/VJ song I remember:
Nee Vennmalligai, Thaen Un Punnagai
Mouname Kadhalin Maligai
(Was it Veetukku Oru Kannagi??)
The mostly unheard duet from Sirai:
Rajasaththi Rosapoove Vetkam Vetkam Yaeno Innum
Another with MVD (from a radhika-sudhakar trailblazer :-) that had raja or roja in the title):
Ae Mama Ponnu
Rosappove Vaa ma Kannu
Samandhi Thottaththil Neerutravaraenu Neethane Naeththikku Sonne
Ippa Naanaththil Nee Yaendi (yaeno?) Ninne
(this one had a vadivelan manasuvachchan trace to it, so I know it is a SG composition. )
Did VJ sing in Brahmacharigal? It had a good male solo "Chandiranai Parththal Suriyanai Sudugiradhu (or Therigiradhu)?" the music was once again my SG.
Just heard the song from Kanne Kaniamudhe again this morning. The opening of the song - can't remember any other singer (anywhere in India) coming half close. And for all that it is a film song, in a film that fell straight into the flop pile. The composition and lyrics are also profound, and MSVs use of the chorus is done with situtational grace.
Here's a line:
Paalootum Marbukkul Idhayaththin Saththam
Kuzhandhai Kadhukkul Arangaerum Thalaththin Muththam...
There is the sound of motherly pecks right after, and then chorus slides into swara mode - the rhythm in the child' ear suddenly available to us!
Those signatures are important. It shows us the thought behind the creation/composition. Nothing ad hoc about it.
Precision is the only tool of Perfection.
Be it comedy or classical music.

I might have got the SVS - Rajesh bit all mixed up. Was it Sparisam which had SVS?
Aadugal Nanaigindrana was a stage-play. It did not do well in its screen adaptation. Same for Visu's Avargalukku Vayadhu Vandhuvittadhu - which was made as "Oorukku Upadesam" - and nobody bought the message :-)

Naaz: Music of "Brahmachaarigal" is by MSV.
It had a wonderful solo by SPB - Azhagiya Thirumuga Darisanam.." a dance song. No doubt "Chandiranai" is also good. But I am not also aweare of any VJ song.
Another VJ song I remember in the early 80's - Mahageetam Oru raagam paada.." , I think, a Shivaji-Sripriya starrer. was it Vasanthathil Oru Naal?

I tuned in, but halfway into the show. Caught the last two and a half songs! I can't seem to log on to that site with ease (I have the same problem with Oli) whereas the other FM netradios seem to stream in without a hitch.
Thanks for the lead.
RR -
Thank you for the correction. I must be confusing the title of the film, or so it seems. I have not heard Azhagiya Thirumuga Darisanam for as long as I have not heard Chandiranai - but you're right, both songs were nicely done.
From Vasanthaththil Or Naal I remember Vaendum Vaendum Indha Uravu and Pachchai Vanna Thottam Kandu (in this one, right in halfway thru there's a fine moment with VJ - Thaen Pandhalitta Kodi Vannangal...) - but I don't recall the song you mention. Are you thinking of Mogaveenai Oru Ragam Pada Kaetaen, from Sangili, by any chance?

OISG,
Thanks for reminding "ravikkai sElai". It is a beautiful song.
Yes, both "en rAsAththi" and "sri rangganO" have an urban hero and a rural heroine. And the songs sound very similar too.
Naaz,
Is "yE mAmA poNNu" from "edhir vIttu jannal"? Is it Vasudevan or is it TMS?
I believe "Umai kanavu kaNdAl" lead man's name was Thirumurugan or something like that. No "ja" or "ha" or "sha" in his name which is a main component in an actor's name.
RR,
"mOhavINai oru rAgam pAda" is from "Sangili". TMS and VJ.

Yes it is TMS. Ethir Veetu Jannal might be it. I am sure you are right.
Ravikkai Sela always reminds me of Poo Mele Veesum Poongaththe from Echchil Iravugal. But the real pair - fabric to lining - would be Pattule Sela Kazhuthula Rathinamale from Pannaipuraththu Pandavargal.

Naaz,
I have not heard "pattula sElai" in decades. It is a beautiful song (almost typed "beautiful selai" :-)
Do you remember this song?
MVD: mAnthOppukkiLiyE machchAnai pAru
manachAnthi kANa manasAra pazagu, pazagu....
VJ: AththOttam pOlE azagAga pEsi
kAththOttam pOlE kalanthittE machchAn, machchA...n

I've heard the duet you mention. It is from the film Manthoppu Kiliye (duh? :-)) I think that Pulliman Pole is also from the same film...and the MD duo is SG - quite sure about this.
Pattule Sela is a bit like Odayil Naan Nalla Odai...from Rasaththi Rosakkili (CB).
I wish you could locate a truly poignant and original tune by SG (VJ solo) which is all but lost:
Ungal Padhaththil Indha Neraththil
from Kalyana Kaalam.
I've waited for many a Kaalam to find this song!
If wishes were horses...what more can I say? :-)
