  Subbu - Your guess is right. The title song by both characters in two different situations. Vani's song is for Padmapriya, who sings this in the wedding reception of Muthurman&Sujatha.The lines rendered are "Kaviri nagarin kadarkaril orathil MADHAVI vazhnthu vandhaal........". whereas PS version is by Sujatha who takes up the challenge when she is deserted by Muthuraman. This songs has the line "KANNAGI vaazhndhu vandhaal...". Sujatha prowess as an actress matched the emotional rendering of the song by PS.

  36. Kaviri nagarinil- Vaazhndhu Kaatugiren- MSV
  
  A strictly avoidable film stg. Muthuraman, Sujatha and Padmapriya. Sujatha playing Kannagi to Padmapriya’s Madhavi. What a colossal waste of talented artists!
  
  This song has two versions. The one featuring Padmapriya is sung by VJ and Sujatha’s version by PS. (Of course, the lyrics also differ appropriately).
  Another good song from the film is ‘Kotti kidandhathu kani irandu’-SPB,PS.
  
  This song is sung by Padmapriya on stage at the Wedding Reception of Muthu- Sujatha. The lyrics give a clear indication of Padmapriya’s intentions. Muthu making eyes at her and Sujatha looking sufficiently irate—
  
  Kaviri nagarinil kadarkkarai orathil Madhavi aada vandhaal
  Oru mannavan kooda vandhan—
  Avar pooviri manjathil porundhiya pinbe Kannagi vaazhavandhaal

  She seems to assert that he was her man much before he married Sujatha.
  And she will continue to be a part of his life. In the following lines- she suggests hopefully that Muthu will soon tire of Sujatha, and will find solace in her own arms-

  She gives a veiled threat to Sujatha, hinting that she will be following a ‘Wait and Watch’ policy-

  Kannadasan, with his known felicity, thus brings beauty even to a pedestrian situation like this. And VJ, in her own sweet way, makes it a memorable song.<<<<<<

  Cinema Virumbi:
  
  'vAzhndhu kAttugiREn' had some sharp dialogues written by SS Thennarasau. I also vaguely remember that he wrote the lyrics for the songs too. But I am not sure. The movie also has a lousy LRE song which goes as 'Hello Sir Good Morning, My name is Geetha, What can I do for you Sir'.. probably the only song sung by LRE for Sujatha. The movie was directed by Krishnan Panju. The same team which made this movie also made 'vAzhvu en pakkam' starring Lakshmi in double role. That movie had the wonderful KJJ-Sasirekha song 'veeNai, pEsum'.

  It just happened to go thru the "paattu pusthagam" of the film "Enga ooru kaavakaran" acted by Ramarajan and Gouthami. I never knew till then that PS (under Ilayaraja) had sung 6 songs... (Is there any other PS-IR combo gave 6 or more songs ?????)

  Thopporam (Solo)
  Maala karukalile (with Mano)
  Arumbagi mottagi (with Deepan Chakravarthi)
  Aasayile paathi katti (with Mano)
  Jivvu Jivvunnu (with Mano)
  
  Top class is Arumbagi mottagi followed by the solo "Thopporam", which was sung efoortlessly by PS...

  vaazhndhu kaatugiren kadhai:
  
  For First 15-20 mins of the movie we will be shown the posessive nature of sujatha
  (how she will not share any of her stuff with others).
  Then her marriage to Muthuraman, who will be a womanizer and having an affair with a call
  girl Padmapriya.
  When sujata learns of Muthus affair she will promptly leave him only to return in
  a prostitute(!!!) vesham to get her husband back. She will seduce her husband(who will not
  recognize his wife)by singing the PS version of kaaviri nagarinil.
  Soon muthu will fall into her trap and will realize the greatness of his wife:))
  padmapriya will chased out and finally subam :)

  Sorry Siva, I don't remember any other song from Ilamkandru. I do vaguely remember that it was a very ordinary film starring Murali, Anitha and Nambiyar. Was the MD Gangaiamaran?

  I want to ask you about the movie 'avaL' which came in the early 70s. (VA Nirmala, Srikanth, Sasikumar). This was a remake of some Hindi movie named 'thOrahA' (I think that name is right) in which Srikanth and VAN had a different kind of relationship than what they had in their first movie veNNiRa Adai. This movie has a nice PS solo, 'adimai nAn AdugiREn'. I think SG were the MDs. 'geethA, oru nAL pazhagum' is a nice duet. Do you know about any other PS songs in that movie?

  Deivapiravi acted by "Mike" fame Mohan, Radhika and Oorvasi (replacing the hindi trio Jeetendra, Jayapradha and Sridevi).. there were 4 duets I remember... all by PS... one with Jayachandran and other 3 with SPB.. Though the songs picturisation were rich (one song sequence was with 1000's of brass kudams), the songs were very average... I think MD was SG??
  
  I think PS did not sing in "Kelviyum naane pathilum naane"... may be Saravanan or Kalai or Raj can confirm this.

  sk- I remember seeing 'Aval' some years back. A very bold theme, considering the period in which it came. Yes, S-G were the MDs. I am sorry I don't remember any other song, apart from the two you have mentioned. 'Geetha, oru naal pazhagum' is a great SPB-PS duet.
  
  Another S-G film from the same time -'Radha'(Muthuraman,Pramila) also had some great PS songs. 'Unnai ethirpaarthen kanna nee vaa vaa'-PS and 'Kadavul meethu aanai'-SPB-PS stand out in memory.
  
  Siva/Subbu- 'Deivapiravi' was the remake of 'Tohfa'. Some other good songs by S-G in the film were'Nil nil nil' and 'Mounam ennum ragam', both by SPB-PS.
  
  Reg. 'Kelviyum naane bathilum naane--', I don't seem to remember any PS duet in it.

  siva- PS's song in Kann simittum neram was 'Thaane paaduthe'. Vizhigalil kodi was by Chitra.
  Aayiram pookal was by PS, but I'm not sure about the Kainaattu song.

  One more song from "ilam kantru" starts like " AamanChami...". Its with MVD. MD: GA.I dont know the exact words.
  Today I could listen a song " Aathoram manal eduthu azhgazhai veedu katti ", Gemini and BS are the stars.. any other details.

  I like PJ the best male singer in world.PS is best female singer in world.Nobody can reach them...they are INVINCIBLE!!!I used to sing along PJ-PS when i play duet songs.Oh god,you gave me 2 people like gold,one PS and second PJ.
