1. Vikram, the vettiayan has never mingled with any people and he has remained in the rave yard, through out his life. In fact this line is stressed several times in the movie. It is implied that nobody has allowed the vettiyan to enter the village. He doest no what is family, relationshi, friendship, sadness or pleasure. He wud've seen only people crying and animal crowling at the grave yard. I am sure that such sort of person would behave very strange, and that is what Bala has portrayed. The characterization is very new to TF.(We have only come across characters like Guna Kamal, Kadal Konden Dhanush, Aalavandan Kamal etc but not like this.)
2. Laila falling love with Surya. May be becos Surya has left the job of 'Cheating'.
On the whole, the movie is quite different and gr8. A episode, portraying the life of a strange person.

It'd take a complete lack of sense of humour from someone to take C~P seriously (in TFM DFs). But since, C~P has touched the ever-sensitive topic of women intelligence (which has always been like belief in God..there are always some people who question its existence), I'd suggest to c~p~w to visit this thread http://www.newtfmpage.com/forum/580.03.34.45.html - Why no(less !!) female participation in newtfmpage DF?.
I'm sure you'd have a good time debating with C~P there.
yenna C~P, maati vittutenaa , hehe :-))

i wonder why people r commenting the movie cannot be seen twice and similar stuff. On the contrary no other diwali release is worth watching even once.I've aldready seen the movie 4 times and many of my friends too have seen more than twice. And about the women issue,if thulluvatho ilamai could run for a hundred days i think pithamagan crossing 175 should not at all be a problem.Women audience r no bonafide for a film becoming a hit or a flop.As someone else had mentioned in case of ramanarayanan's films it may be true.
My estimate is 175(looking at the performance of the movie and the crowd response).I have a confidence in my judgement.Let's see if it clicks this time.
Certainly i would rule out any lack of support of women for a film being a flop.it's totally absurd
(atleast in tamilnadu).Mind u the reviewer in hindu who had mentioned the movie can be watched even by prudes just for the right combination of diligence and intelligence was a woman herself. So don't pass such illogical comments and argue in vain just because u don't like Bala or the movie succeeding.

Vikramfan,
I was mentioning TFM scene.. the so-called repeat audience are women. i.e probably more reason why women sentiment is given a very high importance (no offense gals).
We cannot discount one movie success over lot of them coz of WOMEN!!
Even if you dont accept, there remains a certain truth and unfortunately it is the truth

Dear Musio
Taking your own words "He doest know what is family, relationshi, friendship, sadness or pleasure.", how a person who cannot react to the simple feelings of "relationship, friendship, sadness or pleasure, etc.," can take "vengence" for his "friend"'s death ? Except Laila no one knew who killed Sakthi and she is not talking too. Even here only the henchmen of the Ganja Grower do the job. They can be the goondas sent by any one else. Hence the story and the sequences are terribly faulty. This is the Hatrick fluke success for Bala!

First of all on what basis r u arguing?I've never known in my life that repeat audience r women. Why men cannot see a movie repeatedly is it?what r u blabbering?Tamil film scenario is the greatest as far as welcoming new efforts is concerned.(maybe after malayalam).Don't just tell some nonsense without any reasoning and vouch for it's truthfulness.
Anyway results of our arguements will be known only after a few months. Then u will realise the truth(after pithamagan celebrates 175)

Amazed by the excellant reviews for this film. Waiting for the movie to be released somewhere near by. I came to know that the movie will be released in Indianapolis and Cincinnati during 22 and 23.
I'm not going to see this movie in the cassette.

The movie is good, but Bala shouldn't take all his movies like this. It looks like Bala likes only SAD movies. Music was really good. Should have made a happy ending

The problem with Kamal is he has not yet realised that he has become terribly old! He is thinking that his "yilamai yitho yitho" days are still here.
It is always the same problem with Indian Politicians, and film actors- they do not know when to retire.
All said and done - he is a man with a consciousness except in matters relating to the eves!
- From: naansense (@ 68.77.8.29)
on: Tue Nov 4 22:42:20 EST 2003
velji, if kamal retires it is like saying IR should retire!! These are really the only two creative and sophisticated movie makers left. Basically the industry will be without a support structure if these two geniuses give up. Kamal' major problem is ego trips. if he can give that up, then he can easily nurture future talents.

REally?
What abaout Shaji N Karun, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Mani Ratnam, Ketan Mehta, Rituporna Ghosh, Mrinal Sen etc.??
Kamal's bulls-hit movies are nothing compared tothe elite club of directors listed above whose movies are an international spectacle.

hmmm
in that case, Mani Ratnam is our only hope in Tamil Cinema.
Maybe gautham Vasudev might become like Ram Gopal Varma after Kaaka Kaaka?
Kamal is good talent. But he uts his personal priorities on top of every film! If he gives that up he can be better. But I dont think anybody can take Tamil cinema to world stage like Mani Ratnam.
If Balu Mahendra and Mahendran make some serious efforts we can have more chances, but now Mani Ratnam is the only one. Ofcourse all IMHO
