Dear Friends,
Let us vote for 'Adi Rakkamma' from THALAPATHI as our choice for the World's Top Ten Songs poll conducted by BBC!
I am suggesting this song because if in case the BBC people listen to the nominated songs, they will feel knocked out on hearing our Maestro's 150 Vioins' Strings Ensemble!
Let us all do it at:

Yours Always Musically,
Vijay.

The bbc site says clearly that the results are out only on dec 21st whereas our own tamil sites have declared the results... Probably thatstamil.com thought that this was TN assembly elections...:)))

Vel,
Nice to see your followups and reference postings. feeling 'top of the world'. Feeling proud too. 'pullarrikuthu' when someone says - heh a song from your place is no.1 in the world. Believe me you guys, i tasted pride in the last few days.
Heartfelt appreciation to the bunch of music lovers who started this and caused a bang worldwide. This is an achievement which no PRO has done for the cause of thamizh music in my memory.
Nice to hear that fingers around the world are clicking to see who is this 'Raakkamma' and that includes India too. Lets keep going with good votes so that in the final analysis when number of votes are announced they will be reflecting the vote of true hearts.

Pity that "Tamil" music had to be showcased by a childish, unintelligent piece of rubbish.

I have a request. Most of the non-tamil music fans heard chaiya chaiya...So why dont we have a link to Rakkamma, any body who like to vote(fairly) can listen to both songs and vote.... THE SONG will speak for itself...

This is fyi.I really dont know from where ARR fans got the idea it is his Vande Madaram which is in top 5. It is the original one.I think Rediff started this confusion.... Lets see they speak all those patriotic talks now(after realising it is not his VM).....

Why are folks squirming because an Indian song is considered popular. India has got the largest number of computer literate people and users in the world, particularly Tamilnadu. Second, what is wrong in having an IR's song. IMHO, other than Salil Chowdhury and some significant sounth Indian composers, I must tell u I can't bear the sounds of Hindi, Telugu (chakravarthy the jerk) and most Kannada composers. (don't think i am racist, i am of mixed Indian heritage!!!) Screechy, stupid, uneducated, loud, blaring and unbearable tunes. Only IR' sounds and level of composing has given Indian film music respectability. This is where Rahman come from, remember, though I am yet see a mature enough song from this composer, his songs are good enough for the music unsavvy audiences of India, not for the world, where the taste cannot compherend the sugary sounds of Hindi music and Rahman's composing. I am full of praise for Rahman, but enough man to put him on the league of Beatles, IR, MSV etc... that is sheer nonsense
About Rakkama Kaiya Thattu, an odd choice because of that fricking Janguchakka chakka jajakku chakka. I've never in my life seen IR do that kind of "refrain" in a song, even beat out Deva in that trashy sound, but that was only wrong part of the song. Otherwise an excellent choice because of so many unique things which is new in the world of music and also new from IR, who probably never repeated that strange composition style. I tthink the opening stanza grew a little weak and the lyrics sounding weak. But, a great song for an international audience to discover the power of IR's composing, that is all I can say. I mean I like for instance Suicide Blonde of INXS, ABBA's several songs as number one, Dire Straits, even MSViswanathan' Ninaithaile Innikkum numbers, but anyone matches the magic of IR's composing? No one yet. So, those ARR fans and other non-Tamil jerks go on complaining about the choice and washes your faces in the public toilets around India.
And, I won't be surprised if because of immense support from the IR fans around the world, the BBC commissions IR to composed a song for Elton John or even Cliff Richard!!!!!! Which IR will do in 10 minutes whereas even if Rahman takes a few hunderd years, you will see some weird Shakalaka meant for nursery stuendents.

Yes Kum. We should have chosen some better song. still it is good show. keep it up guys. I too voted today. :-) All thamiz's should vote for that song irrespective of their taste and likings in TFM. I am not a IR fan. But I like his songs too very much. I request MSV Fans and ARR Fans too vote for this effort. We ourselves should not prove the Indian Crab is true. When any TFM related person gets world recognition, we should encourage that. Proud of IR and his music. Well Done.

Come on guys. We are a country of one billion people. Why not make it a 10 out of 10 for India?
If all those people voting for Rakkamma for multiple times ,would just vote for 9 other songs in between (as gap fillers .haha) , then 10 out of 10 wont be any problem.

on: Mon Nov 25 02:54:49 EST 2002
Ok hold on. I will tell you how to go about this.
All IR fans vote for Rakkamma
All ARR fans vote for Chaiyya Chaiyya
All MSV fans vote for Kaatrukenna Veli
All Sirpi fans vote for Azhagiya Laila
All HJ fans vote for Vaseegara
All Deva fans vote for Athanda Ithanda
All Vidyasagar fans for Kadhal Pisase
All SAR fans for Innisai Paadi Varum
All Pushpavanam Kuppuswamy fans for Kandhan Karunai
That makes 9. well I am running out of MDs names.
So dont worry about the 10th one. Leave that to me. Me and my friends will vote a million times for an (IMAGINARY) song by me titled "XYZ" (IMAGINARY AGAIN).
So that makes our 10 out 10 clean sweep by India in the BBC poll
VANDEMATARAM !

kevin, only one among the nine you mentioned is a hindi song. why don't you go for a tamil song there too, so that it will be a clean sweep for tamil songs.
Also how about KR or YSR for the 10th MD slot ?
