It is a known fact that with Baba, ARR has marked his 10th year in TFM in a Big Way.
The beneficiaries of this prodigy's talents, tat’s us the fans, have decided to call for Celebrations in a Big Way.
Hence, a Constellation of ARR Fans from the newtfmpage Forum got together and took a walk down memory lane, through each year of A Decade of Rahmania.
The fruit of our labour saw the creation of a whole new Website, "10 Years of Universal Conquest", in Dedication to ARR.

I am absolutely sorry for failing on my commitment. I have been more busy (one can only procrastinate so far, like Karma it catches up sooner or later :-)), than I can handle/avoid hence the delay. I will try my best to complete the write up on Super Police and GM as soon as possible.

The sound of the breaking glass in Pudhu vellai mazhai (Roja) - make me feel as if I am in the chill
what is the role played by ARR here! Ii's the work of sound engineer to add such effects. Not the music director.

"One film critic explained how for the first time he had heard in IFM, natural sounds being synchronised completely with the song....he was citing "Chiku Buku Rayile" - the train sounds that synchronise with the beat of the song."
It only means that the intervieww has not listrened to tamil songs before. In the song, "Manjal Nilavukku indru ore sugam " IR beatifully mends the song with the sound of a train whistling past. So natural.

The train sound was first done by MSV in "Chithirai madham pournami neram" (Raman ethanai Ramanadi).Later he used it in
Ammamma thambi -Rajapart Rangadurai-Pushpalatha
Payanam -Payanam -MSV
These songs were picturised on and in steam locos.
The same Steam engine Loco sounds which IR used in Mudhal iravu song. ( i have a doubt whether the engine shown there was a Diesel one.Doubt only)
Chikku bukku -used the Electric train sounds which is not as rhythmic as a steam loco.A difficult rhypat.

OISG , IMHO, chikku bukku uses the sound of train carraiges that come to halt in a station or just leaving a station. This sound can be used for elec. train boggies or for diesel engine boggies.
Electric train sounds totally different (and IMO no one has used its sound in songs, but might have used in BGM for scenes).

OISG, listen to the beginning of Ammamma thambi endru nambi song from Rajapart Rangadurai and then listen to IR's Kaasi song, En mana vaanil and see how IR was inspired by MSV.
Similarly, this train sound was certainly not introduced by IR. :)

ARR fans are fans of sound not music. That's what i can see here. I am not at all surprised. All he makes is sound and noise.. That's why he is considered to be a sound engineer. Whether it merges with movie or not is a different issue..
WATER SOUND
Thulli Thulli song and some other songs (great)
--
Athangara marame
HELICOPTER SOUND
Paranthalum vidamatten - Guru
TRAIN SOUND
Manjal Nilavukku, Goodsu Vandiyile..
Chikku bukku railye train sound stops immly.
RAIN SOUND
Raga deepam etrum neram, van megam, edho megam
Then Merku paruvakatru
considering the fact now we can simulate the sound of rain so wonderfully IR has done an exceptional job. I have that PC game
Hidden and Dangerous.. It has a rain sound in scene. Man you will feel as if there is rain outside. High quality sound. ARR will beg infront of the sound engineers in U.S.A for PC games.
If he goes for scoring music for PC games they will reject him straight away.

For train sounds - before IR or ARR - check out RDBs
"Hum Dono Do Premi" from Ajnabi.
When I attended one of IRs live concerts, I was surprised (and happily so) to see how he came up with the train-in-motion sound (the song was Poovarasampoo Pooththachu - Kizhake Pogum Rayil) -
Rubbing two sheets of Sand-Paper!!
How did he come up with that? Marvellous.
End digression.

Hey..
I thought that Sabesh-murali had done the BGMs for Padayappa. I beleive Rahmanonline also says so. However the 1999 page (http://www.armedd.com/arr/1999.html) says the refers to BGMs for Rajini and Ramya krishnan composed by our man ! Could someone clear this contradiction ?

I actually became A.R.Rehman fan all of a sudden. It all started with my leaving states and studying in London . I was feeling home sick.I wanted to listen to something real cool that would make me started. I had made few Indian friends and they gave me their cassette with ARR music I wasn't intrested in it as I wanted something out of this world . My friends said I would love it as it has got something real good in it. To be quite honest I never knew who A.R.Rehman was as I was quite ignorant to Indian cinema or anything relating to it. But I just gave it a try and heard the song from lagaan "Radha Kaise Na Jale" and "Chale Chalo" and "Orey Chori".Gosh it was marvellous and wonderful. And I became a great fan of A.R.Rehman. Later I found one Indian casette shop and I bought few casettes from that shop with A.R.Rehman music and I heard it I loved all Of them . Specially from the film dil se... "Ae Ajnabi" sung beautifully by Udit Narayan . And I thus conclude saying " A.R.rehman is one of the best and may God bless him"
