  The similarity is:The truth is revealed at 8 or 9 years(one in a plane and the other at Birthday party).
  
  "Mad and sim adopts the girl born to Nandita dass and then the kid hunts down her real mother?"
  
  I'm expecting pretty much the same with/without Mad and Sim's help(Mani won't kill Mad and Sim I'm sure :-) ).Also, I thought the girl looks more similar to Nandita Das to pass as her daughter(mani needs a pat for casting here).
  
  BTW,if you are also quite jobless(for another 2 hrs) and also interested we can take it to forumhub and discuss/speculate some plot possibilities?:)

  the story sounds like a reverse of KBs popular tv serial (I forgot the name)
  where mother goes after her childern instead...

  KAOK 'kai aLavu manasu'(KBs teleserial) is inspired from a English telefilm 'what about my children'. There is also a Malayalam film )with Madhavi in the lead) with the same story line.

  the title song "kannathil muthamittal" i think simran sang in the movie for that small girl when i listen the lyrics. she said her life started when she born and dont search u real mother.

  I was very eagerly awaiting KM..Listened to it in raaga today.I am really disappointed with ARR's score.I thought Star and Alli Arjuna were movies that didnt really need ARRs full concentration.But this score for a Mani's movie is way off the mark.
  A short review of the songs.
  1. Vellai Pookal
  Different mellow tone from ARR. Very mild and nice listening if it were not for bad repeat very bad tamil pronounciation and diction from ARR. He does make tamil sound really bad. The tune is good.Diction is BAD.
  2. Sundari
  Seems like a family song like Hallu Gulla in Bombay.OK really.But nothing DIFFERENT.Very typical ARRish music with miscellany of instrument thrown in but nothing challenging or radically different.
  3. Kannathil Muthamittal
  Probably best song of the pack.Good song.But then again is nowhere the masterpiece which we come to expect from a Mani-ARR combo.
  Chinmayee's voice is good but she does sound like prose without any musical inclinations at points.
  4. Signore Signore
  Another typical ARR fare.Nothing new.At parts the instrumentation is Good..but does not persist and falls down to plaid and repetitive orchestrations.
  5.Vidai Kodu Engal Nade
  Pathetic.Bottom line.Deva might have come up with a better song given the situation that is reflected in the lyrics. The song is BAD.Full stop.Nothing more on this song really.
  6.Kannathil Muthamittal
  This more instrumental inclined version is as the earlier one, the only redemption in this album !
  To summarise, Alaipayuthey..was a revelation. KM is something that sounds good in parts. But to all good music fans..I guess we are used to something much better from ARR-Mani combo.
  For me, a Deva or Vidyasagar(Dhill was much better than KM) or YSR(Nanda was a revelation) would have done much better, given the pedigree of the movie.
  I guess Ill have to wait for Mani's next movie for magic from ARR.Or is he over ?

  veLLaip pookkaL is a different kind of 'soft' song from ARR. It uses electric guitar ambience..a first for ARR (but used by IR for a long time). It reminded me of some IR songs like kOdail kAlak kARRE etc..

  This is the first time iam spending some time to pen abt a movie ..it’s all abt the movie Kannathil Muthamittal …I can just stop by saying in single word that movie is superb ..there is some thing more than that I want to tell ..especially the climax scene
  
  I am explaining the lot of emotions that happens in the climax scene
  
  First of all the story line and the child keerthana's acting are really prodigious …the one has to see that girl in amudha character acting in the climax scene when she asks nadita didn’t she touched him after she born(* actually girl was preparing to ask 20 questions to nandita his real mom ) ..nandita replies that after she was borm she touched with her left hand finger ..thatz all amudha starts burst out in tears (lot of emotions in the scene which I cant express in words ) all light hearted people will also burst out in that scene …amudha expects more from her mom and gets disappointed after her reply ...i donno how director managed to handle that complicated scene with a little kid really amazing …after that she stopss asking question to nandita (she getted terribly disappointed and frustrated with her real mom that she didn’t even cared to hug her after birth ) ..after that scene one will come to know that whole story makes sense ..
  Its not a decision making film which tells whether to tell or not a adopted girl that she is an adopted girl …
  It’s the movie in which child understand that her adopted parents are far better than her own mom …and keeps a full stop abt thinking abt her own mom …
  
  Also the climax scene in which nandita comes to meet her child …she comes more an LTTE women(strong hearted ) than a ordinary mom to a child ..but when child pours out in due course she melts down comes out more of a mom than a liberation tiger women ..
  
  Movie ends freezing the picture of girl amudha kissing her adopted mom simran and ends the argument that her adopted mom is nothing b4 her own mom ….
  so dont ask abt the movie to anyone who dont understand emotions just go and watch it ..
