A digression..
What are the movies directed by Mouli?
I remember Ivargal Vithiyasamanavarkal ( starring P Jayalakshmi - a good movie ) What are the songs from this film?

Haha Raja i have been looking for these songs for quite some time...
AS far as i can remember theres only one song in this film which was for Srividya and PJailakshmi.
As u said this was a very good film
other Mouli films are
oru oodhappu aduppodhigaradhu
oru varisu uruvaagiradhu
vaa indha pakkam
pudhiya anubhavam or something

How I got to P Jayalakshmi was when I remembered ennadi ulagam from AOT. Then I remembered the other good film of her . She was a good actress, a pity she killed herself . Mouli is one more intelligent character. Somehow did not shine . He used to be hilarious in his earlier dramas . :)

oops it should be 'oru pullanguzhal aduppodhigiradhu'and not oru oodhappu:))

U r rite raja she was a good actress .She and Rajinikanth had lots of 'on screen'chemistry.
MOuly was a good director too but somehow he didnt direct any impressive films. 'ivargal vidhyasamanavargal'was an indeed very good film.
Though i was very small when i saw this film i enjoyed it very much. The performances of all the lead artistes was extremely good.
SindhuBhairavi had lots of resemblance to this film.Especially Sulakshanas character was very much similar to that of Srividyas. What do u think??

I really dont remember the film's plot. I saw it on MS DD long time back. I do remember the last scene, when mouli is walking on the beach, removes his chappals and throws them into the sea . I should watch this one and KB's classics again , also SNSM .

Raja :
You might be talking about 'oru pullankulaL aduppu UthukiRathu' -- It is an excellent movie by mouli. He will try to sell LIC building in that movie. njyabaga marathi character was good in that movie.
KB :
akni sAtsi :
Lot of pudu kavithi is there in the movie.
kanA kANum KaNkaL mella is too good. In the middle of the song one english dance will come. That is ultimate.
'puthiya kavithai punayum kuyilE nenjjil undAna pAram enna
ninaivu alaigal...'

Shyam nope Raja is rite abt 'IV'. 'oru pullanguzhal...'didnt had srikanth.
Raja let me summarise the plot for 'IV'
Srikanth,a business magnet,has a sweet innocent
illiterate wife and a son and daughter.Enters
into his life is PJayalakshmi as his secretary.
Srikanth ,attracted by her intelligence, falls for her and PJ,due to her poor family background, accepts to be the second wife for
Srikanth. Srikanth easily fools his unread wife(this is the best scene in the whole film -srividya at her best)and marries PJ wout divorcing sri. Soon he starts neglecting his first family . PJ bears him a son and later due to some
problem( i dont remember this)PJ leaves him.
When Srikanth tries to go back to his first family,he will be chased out by his handicapped son. Then comes the last scene u have mentioned where srikanth walks alone in the beach(juhu beach)

I vaguely now am able to recollect the story. I thought mouli was the main character, must be Srikanth. Talking of Srikanth reminds me of Raja naagam, one more good film.
Since you are one of the page maintainers, one can take liberties of digression :)

I am very much free.!! But got real sick after seeing KB's kalki with Deva's Music - How low the standrads can stoop - From sindhu bhairavi to Kalki.
I used to be a BIG KB fan until I saw Duet ., and the fate was sealed by kalki..
Ramki.,
Duet songs to be compared w/ other KB hits..?? Start with Ninaithale inikkum, Nilal Nijamagirathu, SB , Punnagai mannan , PPA etc..
Alagan was Good. But Vaname Ellai's songs were not all that good I feel..

MSK - The world will appear pink to you if you wear pink glasses! :-))
Duet the movie, was more a musical than a usual KB story. It can hold its own compared to many other similar musicals. IMO, Duet songs are much better and a class apart than the songs from Nininaithaaley Inikkum. (Pardon me MSV fans, but surely I'm entitled to my views - but then again I prefered Priya songs to NI too. :-))) As far as Kalki is concerned, at least a couple of songs were very relevant to the movie. It was a bold story that could not have been captured by anyone else, but KB.
In 90% of KB's movies, the songs complement the movie, without overshadowing the story. That is the mastery of KB over film-making.
Do not let your "IR-worship" (for want of a better word. :-)) cast doubts over this master director.

Ramki:
You missed one more movie: Naangu Suvargal (a flop
movie by KB; MD: MSV). It had two good songs:
O Mainaa, and, ninaiththaal naan vaanam sendru.
The song aaNaiyittEn nerungaathE from Punnagai
is a great song, sung very effectively by SJanaki.
But I fully agree with you regarding its picturization.
(Which girl will sing a song when she is being raped?
Only KB can imagine such things!)
Punnagai has one more song: naaLai naamoru
raajaangam amaippOm. This song comes at the
very beginning of the movie where the five friends
take a pledge in front of a Gandhi statue to be
truthful always and then go around roaming in
Madras to celebrate their graduation from Engg
college. To me this movie is the best that KB ever
made; in fact, I will go one step further and say
that IMO it is one of the best movies ever made in Thamizh. Gemini's character in that movie is
an astoundingly great one! (Ah, this Gemini is very
lucky: he got one other excellent character from
KSG in Karpagam!) Some people have told me that this
movie gives a negative view to viewers about the
value of being truthful. They tell me that the
movie gives the view that one undergoes only
hardships by sticking to the path of truth. But
you have to see the movie very carefully. Gemini
speaks truth always and because of that he faces
all kinds of physical hardships; but he
is always smiling in the movie; he has absolutely
NO mental harships at all. There is however one
scene when he really has a sad face. That happens
when he is in death-bed and MRRVasu asks for his
signature on a false document and says that only if
Gemini signs it will he take care of Gemini's
family after his death. Although Gemini dosen't
like it, he ultimately signs it and gives it to his wife
Jayanthi. His face is sad when he silently gives that to
her. BUT she knows him so well. (BTW, Jayanthi's
character is another wonderful one.) In front of him
she tears off the document and his face brightens,
both of them smile with great fulfilment in heart
and then Gemini dies; the punnagai is still
present in his face at death, signifying the fact
that he had a winner's life, full of happiness only. That scene is one of the very best scenes;
no dialogues, only silence, excellent facial
gestures, and the background music
very aptly made to give a wonderful effect!
There are a few more wonderful scenes in this
movie: the dialogue between Gemini and Jayanthi
after she is charged by ASakunthala in front
of everybody that Jayanthi committed adultery
(KB nicely brings-in Ramayanam & M'Baratham stories);
the scene in which Sahasranamam, the stubborn
father of Gemini, questions Jayanthi's child
to know whether Gemini has conveyed to the child
the truth that Gemini is not its father, etc.
I can go on and on about this movie, but let me
stop. This is absorbing all my time!
Ramki: now I know why people are not beginning to
write in this thread.

Keerthi Im in the punnaghai fan club too. When i saw this film in DD few yrd b4 i was jusu amazed. What a story, what a performance. The best of KB,a best in the TFM.But my Mom said this film
was a flop...well we know abt average TFM rasigargal. One more scene i liked in this film where ASakunthala turns the table and make jayanthi look like having an extramartial affair.
Muthu who learns truth but hesitating to accuse Sakunthala in front of others and Gemini who
believes that his wife is innocent accepts her back.Such an intense situation but without any melodramatic scenes...no 'athaan mannichirunga'kadharifying..Gemini,Muthu and Jayanthi at their best.Yes keerthi this discussion can go on and on
NOV i m on ur side regarding 'duet' and'kalki'.Being a MSV fan myself, i will say
that 'duet'songs were much better than 'ninaithalae inikkum'.
The sax interlude 'en kaadhalae en kaadhalae'showed the brilliance of ARR.
Similarly Deva did a decent job in 'kalki'.
'porul thedum boomiyil' and 'ezhudhugiren oru kadidham'were excellent. Esp 'porul thedum'which was based on raag Revathi had very good music and
nice lyrics by the new kavignar 'ilandhevan'
