Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

OISG, thanks for reminding Kuzhalum Yazhum.
I think it is from an album by MSV. Do you
remember the other songs from this album?
My childhood morning used to begin with these
songs (and mannulagil inru devan irangi varugiran) broadcast from a church near my home...

Raj, if you are referring to your post on Azhagiya kaNNE, i've put it yesterday here. See old responses.
OISG/AaLavandhaan, this is "perhaps" the best :-) Among the songs you listed, I still like maadhaa un kOvilil the most.

pirArthani in simple language, complete "surrender" in front of the god -- these two characteristics(of christianity) have been expressed well in this song. mezugu pOl urginOm kaNNeerai matRa vA -- is what "kavithuvam"(no need to mention about sj here) which is really missing in other two songs. One is flat pirArthanai(enai Alum meri mAtha), another one is simple vENduthal song(karuNai mazaiye) - both are good though.

Song of the Day: Background Music from Johnny.
- Thanks to Vijay for sending me this.
1. http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/johnny/Title.rm
The title piece. Not your typical title song where the theme of the film is explored. Starts of with an aadhivaasi song (thOdars?). The final piano+guitar bit is excellent.
2. http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/johnny/meetingwithfather.rm
Johnny meets his father. I don't remember this scene. A single flute with the background of birds chirping sets the somber mood.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/johnny/vidyasagarintro.rm
Introduction of the second rajinikanth (Vidhyasagar). Sounds like the beginning part of "aattukkutty muttai ittu".
3. http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/johnny/bamaintro.rm
Introduction of Deepa (Bama). A playful piece that carries on the theme started with Vidhyasagar's intro.
4. http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/johnny/sitarpiece.rm
A very melodious sitar piece that comes when Johnny visits Archana (Sridevi) at her home for the first time. Sridevi plays the sitar.
5. http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/johnny/thememusic.rm
Johnny asks for a rupee from Archana, saying that it will be a talisman for him, and that he will keep it for life. IMO, this is the best BGM in the movie. If only IR could collect and release his theme tracks from such movies!
6. http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/johnny/cheating.rm
A small bit that shows Rajinikanth and Surulirajan (with his annoying voice) cheating some hapless guy. Fast tabla percussion in this livens up the clip.
7. http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/johnny/flowers.rm
Another short piece where Vidhyasagar catches Bama in his garden. At the end, Rajinikanth shouts like Karthik :-)
8. http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/johnny/themetwo.rm
Johnny agrees to marry Archana. Continuation of the theme that we saw earlier.
9. http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/johnny/johnnyvsmeeting.rm
Johnny meets his lookalike, Vidhyasagar. Starts off with explosive violins, and a violin maintains the tune till the end.
10. http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/johnny/bamashooting.rm
Vidhyasagar shoots Bama for cheating on him.
11. http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/johnny/chase.rm
Police chases Johnny. This piece runs a little less than 4 and a half minutes. Is that a human chorus in the middle or is it a electronically generated one?
12. http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/johnny/themesad.rm
Johnny at Archana's home, before he leaves. The main theme music continues, in a meloncholic and pondering manner. IR has used the flute so effectively in this clip to convey the mood of the scene, showing the uncertainity in their future.
13. http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/johnny/Climax.rm
The climax of the film, after Sridevi has sung "kaatril endhan geetham". The main theme is explored more here, with hope and upbeatness in it.
The next update will be after the Christmas holidays. Happy holidays everyone, merry christmas and have a great new year.

I missed one clip.
14. http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/johnny/fight.rm
The fight scene between Johnny and Vidhyasagar. Typical fast-paced music with violins to suit the situation.

4-minutes chase scenes pAkkaRa aLavukkup poRumai irukkA bb? periyAL dhAn :-)) that bgm sounds funny, too. the chorus sounds very much human chorus; there might have been some "electronization" of it tho'.
the theme music is too good. srikanth used to say that IR used to compose bgm like movements. this is the first example i am hearing. the two themes beautifully complement each other. i wish IR takes up these and gives them a "complete" form! (wishful thinking :-( )

This stuff is what makes TFM page unique!! Good
job guys.
Here are some of my observations:
Track 5 (theme) sounds is very Mozart and has almost no trace of any South Indian or folk influence. Looks
like something written and kept for years and added to the movie soundtrack. He has used this
theme as a leitmotif for the lovers.
The Adivasi track has amazing resemblences to African folk singing. I keep wondering if the common roots of South Indian and African culture has been uncovered by the anthropologists/genetics guys. Not just folk
rythms, but you can even here authentic Carnatic
Saveri and Madyamavati in Ali Farka Toure.
The title is very sumar.
Sitar piece is like playing Ravi Shankar CD 5 times regular speed! Why so many notes in such
a short time, it is almost showing off! If I have such a taste of fast changing music and in general an attention-deficit-disorder, I will blame on Ilayaraja!
Chase music shows lot synth sounds and influence of techno/disco. He does not stay with
the same style for more than 5 seconds!! I remember initially it used to be jittery for the
MSV-trained ears, then we got used to it.
And the shooting music is a good showcase how he is capable of manipulating your emotions in a
raw manner.
