Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

rjay, pallavi of "Karpoora Bommai ondru" can be seamlessly combined with the charanams of "Pillai Nila" to make a song :-) I think I had mentioned this in the "Medley of Songs" thread earlier.

Buddhadeb Dasgupta:
Indian cinema has given us great masters. Why did Tamil cinema have to wait so long to get a Mani Ratnam for national recognition? Also, isn't it time to do something more lasting, bring more sensitivity to your images?
Mani Ratnam :
National recognition has nothing to do with what we do here but with what people see. The fact that they were not open to seeing ``16 Vayadhinilae'' can't be held against the maker of the film.
It's just that ``Roja'' and ``Bombay'' dealt with issues closer to them ... got translated into Hindi.
If I get anywhere near what Mahendran did in ``Udhiri Pookkal'' I'll be a happy man. Sensitive images...? I'm trying...all the time... Let me see if one day...

On a more serious note, a tidbit related to udhirip pookkaL [1979] -- I heard that the hero, Vijayan, is struggling nowadays. A couple of years back, I heard that he is homeless, alcoholic, and hangs around Choolaimedu. Very sad. "

MUSIC LOVER (@ 195.226.230.37) is a moron who has become deaf to good music having been exposed to kuppai music for far too long. Kalushadais like him should be kept behind bars and left to rot with just HTNI playing in the background.

Song of the Day: maadhaa un kOvilil from achchaaNi.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/maadhaa.rm
- Another great number by SJ, where she carries off the song in a great, melancholic manner. A simple tune, the veeNai + violin 1st interlude is amazing too. MD: IR.
- Probably the best christian song in tfm. There aren't that many to list.
- Anyone remember the picturization of this song? Can someone post a detailed analysis of the song?
- AchchaaNi also has "thaalaattu, piLLai unnaith thaalaattu" by PS.

bb- Kalakkitteenga!
What a soulful song! And how feelingly rendered by SJ! Awesome.
Each line lingers in memory-Be it'Meippan illadha mandhai vazhi maarume' or 'Pillai peraatha annai thaai aanathu, annai illatha maganai thaalaattuthu', 'Mezhugu pol uruginom, kanneerai maatra vaa, matha' --what a fervent, yet hushed appeal to the Virgin Mother.
Achhaani-1978 starred Muthuraman, Lakshmi, Manorama and others. I have not seen the film.
Other songs were 'Thalaattu'-SPB-PS and 'Adhu maathiram'-MV-Manorama.
Swarnalatha, in an interview, spoke of this song in awe, and said that only SJ could have done justice to it. She added a touching incident in her life- Swarnalatha's father used to love this song. When he was on his death-bed, he asked Swarnalatha to sing this song, and as she was singing it, he breathed his last peacefully.
IR himself has given some good christian songs-'Devan thiruchabai malargale'-Avan Enakke Sondham, and 'Devanin kovilile'-Vellai Roja.

But bb if you had to pick one song from" Achaani" it has to be " Thaalatu". Well may be some other time, but in MHO " maadhavin " cannot hola candle to Thalaatu(Pun intended!)

bb, enna ippadi sollitteenga?
Kinggini kinggini from Thavaputhalvan is a wonderful song that begins on a happy note and ends soulfully.
Even ARR's Anbendra mazhaiyil is a soulful rendition of a Christian song.
And if you go even earlier back, there is the unbeatable Ennai aalum Mary maathaa.
See, there are plenty of good Christian songs in TFM. :)

Correct Aal!
Even Punitha Anthoniyar song by VJ (extensively discussed in VJ forum) is the II best after "Enai Aalum Meri Matha"
Neelakadlain oorathil by TMS(G devarajan) in Annai Velankanni is a great christian song.
My personal best is a Thani padal by KJY(MSV) "Kuzhalum Yaazhum Kuralinil" set in Hamsanandhi.

BB:
That's such a pleasant coincidence. Was just thinking the other day of requesting for "Azhagiya Kanne", which, as I documented long ago in this forum, is an absolute favourite of mine. Much ground has been covered in this thread by others regarding the merit of the song so I dont need to go into this melting melody again.
Thanks a lot, and boy what do you follow it up with: Maadhaa Unn Kovilil,, another m.m.
Well, there you go takeits all the goodwill I am supposed to give others in my lifetime. Great, man
I only wish you could have reproduced my other post in the "My favourite song", or some thread like that - the one in which Df-ers used to take their favourite song and dissect it as to why they like it. I dont remember the title but I think storing the hardcopy of that post for quite long till recently when I lost it.
By any chance, would it be possible for you to locate this thread(the same one I remember in which SM talked about "Unn paarvaiyil"?
And again, thanks a million times for that double-treat!

bb, thanks for posting the great song. Unfortunately I am not able to listen to it using the latest real player. How do I?
NagaS, the song has lots of similarities with
Maniyosai. Same scale, rhythmic feel(nadai) and instruments and dramatic interludes. Especially the veenai/congo drum combination is unique to these songs.
