hi friends nice going
either Srikanth rules be it criticsm or appreciation ;) way to go dude!!
Jay I would like know your 'Defintion' of
'feel that it lacks definition Defintion' ?
And why should be guitar given prominence to this more folk like song?
The emotion behind the song is 'a lovers agony'
The composer decided flute will best suit the mood
I thought the instruments
does not jam in together. ? you mean in the entire song or at one part of they song or they out of sync totally ?
Whats your idea of the song,
It will be also great help if you can come up with a song that reflects the same mood
Ofcourse i am not comparing anyone ,
just want to exchange ideas.
peace

By definition I mean the way the song is structured...
and how all the instruments complement each other.
I feel the arrangements were a bit too spontaneous.
Would have been nice if everything was structured a bit more.
Its not everywhere though...there were places where everything came
together well like at 3:13!
About the guitar I thought it didnt play anything
interesting..it neednt be the focus in the song I agree.
My idea of a song?? Tough to explain...It's the same
as everybody else I guess...Rahman is god!
I guess there's no better explanation to my kind of song
than my own compositions...check out "Memories of a lost world"
I've been listening to a lot of Nitin Sawhney songs nowadays...you
guys ever listened to him?
BFN...
Jay.

Nice to know things have smoothened up. My thoughts are no different from Jay's. Criticisms are most welcome. And lets not take these personally.
We all praise good efforts. So when you hear a criticism, the first thing comes to you is "I put so much into this song, and why does someone not like it?" - The next thought should be "Maybe I didnt see a point from this persons perspective" and NOT "So many people said it was good, and only this person says its not just right - what is his problem???". I am just rephrasing what you all said.
Finally, it is you who is the judge. Even if everyone says its not good, deep down if you are confident enough that you are making progress, you know no criticism can personally hurt you.
BTW (don't take me wrong here) let me explain what Jay said in my own words which I think makes a lot of sense. The meaning of "definition".
When you write a song, it is not enough to concentrate on just individual parts, but the whole.
For example, if you want to explain how you feel to someone - it is not an easy thing to do. You rarely say what "appeals" to you, but explain it in words normally understood by many - and then wrap those words into your own thing. Poets for example put their feelings into words and draw metaphors normally understood by many. Likewise, if you want to say your own thing with music, you have to mimic what the poet does. Say something - expand on that idea - show parts of individual ideas - write one phrase which sums up individual ideas - finally say what you said before. You can repeat what you said before any number of times, but that would not be necessary. Followning this "definition" is very important.
If you think about music, every instrument you use will have a meaning of its own in a song. The melodies you write for those instruments also should "come foraward" and express its view. When some instrument is doing that, others should not interrupt. This doesnt mean other instruments should be silent. This is the beauty of writing counter melodies for other instruments. This is what I think definition is. I still think Srikanth needs to improve a lot in this area. The "whole" song needs a structure for us to remember.
Srikanth, I think you can experiment a little on following A-B-A pattern, A-B-c-B-A etc. This is absent in your music. Not that this is something you should follow. There are a few composers I heard that rarely follow this. But in common songwriting, this is followed.
I wanted to write this to Srikanth personally. But this is something which everyone can benifit from, so I put that in here.I apologize if this wasnt welcome.

I have started to belive in Horoscopes
Cancer
Horoscope (by astrocenter.com)
The planets are configured in such a way that you are likely to be especially sensitive to criticism today, whether it is intentionally aimed at you or not. This may result in some misunderstanding between you and your coworkers, colleagues, or friends. If you are wise, you can actually benefit from this circumstance. At the end of the day it will prove worthwhile to consider all the things people said to you. Could there be any truth in what they say? A little constructive criticism never hurt anyone, and it could even help you get ahead!

Thanks Jay & Swamiji for 'your definitions' :)
Well I just listened thro your music.
And once again sorry to compare music wise
you and srikanth music are like two different poles(N&S).
Yours is more ambient, electronic based song whereas Srikanth is more of Indian flavoured.
And there can be no comparison here.
Each need to be in his/her shoes to get the songs perspective.
I am not going to talk about Chord structure as there enough people here on that department.
Of all the songs I listened in ur site
my pick is
a)Lost world and b)fly away.
The other songs seems to be sounding very similar to my ears(going purely how it sounded to my ears only i am not generalising please)
They both convey some feeling and mood to the listener. But again to me the song Lost World gave me total different emotions/feeling more like a jungle chase or running around it didnt calm me down it had more adventorous tone to it.
It would be nice if you come up with some more different tunes some native(indian)or you prefer only electronic/ambient music only...
To show differentiation in electronic/ambient music will be challenging i guess!!
peace

Triton is the only commonality...so we should restrain from this comparison...enjoy them as they are...Further it may not be a good idea to categorize these as a indian/non-indian kind of music...I feel it's too early to say...

Well I have been visting TFM page for the past 3 yrs thats how i came to know these wonderful folks.
oflate tfm page has become stale ...except for this forum and a nice place to meet interesting folks :)
you can listen/critise ;) my work at http://www.mp3.com/premadona.(i think you have already heard my music i guess)
The songs you hear in that site all have been composed using only my pc-keyboard and not the real ones so u will see limitations in polytone octaves etc so bewarned :)
I am on my way to buy a decent equipment thanks to suggestion from our folks here(roland sound modules and midi keyboard most likely or will settle with korg-karma)!!

srikanth - as usual, simple and superb melody. I could visualize a little bird hopping from branch to branch restlessly. You have portrayed the theme very well in this tune and the usage of flute was apt. Looking forward to more novel themes and numbers from you…. I liked the way you used Sindhubhairavi to bring out the “Ekkam and thavippu” of the bird!!!!

Thanks. I knew you before..just couldnt relate.
Listened to your tracks...I like the classical vocals.
Needs more arrangement if you are layering it with beats.
I think Karma will be a great buy. I got no idea how Roland
sound modules are...so I cant say.
Thanks for your comments about my songs...you're right, they
are more into electronic..except may be lost world and twilight rain.
Swamiji: Thanks for sharing your opinions with all of us.
BTW...who's this i.kutti?

Caution I may be sounding harsh...I have nothing personal...just want to put my thoughts...
you may ignore them - Please Don't reply to this posting if you don't care about these.
You have been giving quiet a
good comments. People might ignore them until
you come out with a score exemplifying all your
theories. Otherwise somebody might suggest very
soon that you could start a magazine
"Composition Success Review". Back in India
we have "Competition Success Review" - The
editor himself just compiles the stuff and keep
writing articles...while ackwoledging the
source. So when u just theorize u must show it.
I strongly believe that u will be one of those very rare composers who can use A-B-A patterns and enlighten the world.
I am disappointed with ur posting - that's not the way to communicate...Score and Artist will suffer with such comments...May be srikanth is an exception in such things...
Well I am feeling extremely sad that I had to post this message...
If Jay comments on Srikanth or Srikanth comments on Jay...I feel it's justified because we hear them...I am sorry if it hurt u. I am sure it won't hurt because u just don't care:-) I wish so...

Aditya
