  This movie should not run for even 1 week. But the sad part is that it may well be a hit.

  People: Unmai's only grouse is that HIS thalaivar IR was not chosen to do the music for Baba.
  As such, RK and his movie must go to hell.
  
  I hope the people of TN and TF fans throughout the world will ensure that Baba and its music is such a great success that the acid in Unmai's tummy will overflow, thus eliminating him totally from this forum. :)

  Guys,
  happened to watch baba yesterday.First let me tell u abt myself, I'm not die hard or hardcore rk fan, but still love to watch his style and his dialog delivery.
  But as far baba is concerned, it is not tat kind of a movie expected from rk, after a long delay.
  Rk fans and gen public have alerady, dismissed his earlier fantasy based films like adhiysaya piravi and arunachalam, baba falls into tat category.
  questions to RK-
  
  why r u trying thnigs which do not come ur way, esp the story writing(this is one aspect where the movie badly fails.)
  we have given u ,our clear expectations reg ur movies i ur previous releases esp padayappa, baasha, making those a roaring hit, but u try to impose ur ideologies in this movie(baba).PLs Mr.superstar do no try to enforce ur ideologies thru ur movies--if u love spiritualism, u have it urself, pls do not force it on us(the movie does a lot this thing).
  Beside the bad story line, the movie also looses flow (as there are many cuts which tend to distrtact the actual story line--this is the case with first day first show-I wonde how it wud be after 100 days).
  The concept of baba's birth, by itself a questionof much speculation,baba's character and his portrayal is again another questionof speculation(nowhere they have mentioned the reason for people being afraid of baba--,his occupation another unknown stuff).
  As per story baba gets a mantram which cud get him wat he asks for, and also been told by the rishies, that it wud not work if drinks non-veg or boose----but baba is seen drinking just after using the first wish,this is another big flaw.
  The only people who have done their part to satisfaction is ARRahman(although the songs sond too weird b'fore watching the movie, it suits rajini weel--esp the Rap song which comes in the backgrgound when Rajini does graphic gimmicks is too good).the other guys is goundamani, all his dialogues are a really a rtaet , esp the statement he says "Nee ethukku eduthaluum romba yosikira appa", brings in continous laughter.
  Finally , Mr.Rajini, SORRY BOSS WE DID NOT EXPECT SUCH A NONSENSE MOVIE FROM U.

  Finally, i watched this film on the first day (Thursaday) in
  Plaza Theater (Singapore). I didn't expect that the theater will be
  housefull during the weekday. Even outside the theater, there were
  heavy whistle and baba slogan by the die hard fans. It gave me a
  feeling that i am in Tamil Nadu. Due to tremondous crowd, there were
  push and pull and some of the glasses were broken accidentally. I
  really feel sorry for the ladies and children present and they were
  struck in between.
  
  I would like to list out few opinions about this film as follows:
  
  STORY
  -----
  
  The story is something different for our superstar and but
  unbelieavable. The first half is really fantastic. Rajini's speed,
  style, dialogue, dance, comedy, look, etc was really amazing. No
  actor can match him. Rajini really understood his fans expectations
  and really satisfied them. The fans clapping and whistle didn't
  stopped for two hours which is until the songs "Maya Maya". After
  that the speed went down gradually but it is not boring.
  
  SONGS
  ------
  
  Before watching the movie, i hate only Rajiyamma. After seeing the
  movie i really liked that song too. Rajini did brilliantly for three
  songs Tippu Tippu, Kichu Kichu and Maya Maya.
  
  Rajini appeared in the screen for Tippu Tippu introduction song and
  all the fans stood up and welcomed him with loud thunder sound.
  Really superb. Dance was done by Tharun Kumar and he really knows how
  to make use of Rajini. Rajini gave a good expression for Shanker
  Mahadevan,s voice. Kichu Kichu was done by Prabhu Deva and Maya Maya
  done by Lawrence. Both the song movement were good but it will be
  even more better if Tharun Kumar had done it. Sakthi Kodu is my
  favorite song but it failed to attract me in the screen.
  
  DIALOGUES
  ---------
  
  We have already heard the dialogues which were written by his fans in
  Kumudam. It was used at correct place and it is more powerful when
  Rajini pronouce them.
  
  STYLE
  -----
  
  Rajini didn't failed to show his style in this movie. This is one of
  the main highlight of this movie. He looks more younger and active.
  He speak very fast and that is enough for us. I really love the way
  Rajini handles his knife and he says "Countdown Starts 1,2,...) Wow!
  
  COMEDY
  ------
  
  For Rajini, comedy is nothing to him. He did it perfectly with
  Koundermani. I like some of the scenes whereby he speaks simple
  English with a smile.
  
  FIGHTS
  ------
  
  The fights were done by Pepsi Vijayan and it is quite inersting. I am
  glad that the fight scenes were not so draggy and not many. Graphics
  were properly used and it is apprecitable.
  
  SCREENPLAY
  ----------
  
  The screenplay was done brilliantly in the first half. In the second
  half, Rajini was little confused. They have dragged the movie for two
  occasions: For testing his power and the final Samiyaar's poojai.
  
  Rajini took this oppurtunity to show his spritual leader "Baba Ji" to the audience.
  
  It will be intersting if Rajini used his 7 Powers in a stylish and a thrilling revenge action (kind of Arunachalam).
  
  CONCLUSION
  ----------
  
  Rajini had given mixture of taste which contains comedy, style, good
  dance, sentiments, politics and spirtual to cater for all type of
  audience. We all know this film be super hit. It will be super duper
  hit, if the phase of speed is maintained in the second half.

  "Rahman's music is a big disappointment. Couple of songs are ok. But for a banner like Rajni's you would have expected the genius to have come out with something extraordinary. Rajni's fans have argued that the songs are good once you listen to them a few thousand times. Well, even Aalavandaan songs will sound good if u listen to them 24/7 for 100 years! "

  Story
  
  The film opens with the birth of Baba, who is a 'baba amsa sambhootudu'. Baba (Rajnikanth) grows up as an atheist, hot-blooded guy and a Good Samaritan. His life style includes consuming alcohol, smoking beedi, chewing paan parag, His mother (Sujatha) and his maternal uncle are ardent devotees of Baba (the Baba who is supposed to be of 2000 years old and who live in Himalayas). Chamundeswari (Manisha Koirala) stays in the neighborhood of Baba and both of them fall in love.
  
  Baba beats the son of a state minister Krishna Murthy (Asish Vidyardhi). Krishna Murthy demolishes the colony of Baba. When Baba is about to go to fight with Krishna Murthy, Baba's mother urges him to maintain calm and rebuild lost colony it by working hard. Baba joins as a labor in a shop and earns money. Chamundeswari tells Baba that she is not willing to marry a daily labor. Then Baba realizes that so far he has been only answerable for his mother. And if he gets married then he has to live for wife and kids. And he would become answerable to them. He would not be able to help for the society as he might become selfish after marriage. He feels that prema (love) is maya (illusion). At that time, a weird looking sadhu comes to him and tell him that its time for getting enlightened. Baba is taken to Himalayas where he meets the real Baba. He gets frightened by the atmosphere and wishes to return back to Chennai. Then real Baba grants 7 wishes to Baba. He can use any of these wishes anytime he wishes to utilize. Baba is sent back to Chennai. Baba still could not believe that he went to Himalayas met real Baba. He uses that mantra to test the power by wishing a flying kite to come and fall in his hand. He waits for a few seconds and decide that it was all his illusion. Later the kite follows him to his house and falls on his hand. He feels that its coincidental and tries the mantra again to a different kite and wishes it to fall on his lap. He goes into his house and close all the possible entries in the house. But the kite makes its way falls on his lap. That is where he realizes that Baba is real and God exists in the world.
  
  He still has five more wishes life. And the minister Krishna Murthy comes to know about it. They call a tantrik (Amrish Puri) to foil the Baba's magic powers. What happens in the end and what is the message Baba wants to give to the public are the interesting points that are dealt towards the end of the film.
  
  Artists:
  
  Rajnikanth: Rajni had a light beard in this film to give a carefree image to the characterization. Rajni's name is associated with the style and he performed each and every moment of Baba character with great élan. Rajni's introduction is shown with the song 'Tippu Tippu', in a railway station set. He also did different dances for the songs 'Baba .. Neeku Mokkuta' and 'Maya Maya' in the dance direction of Prabhudeva and Lawrance respectively. His mannerism in the film is saying 'Gatham Gatham' (past is past) by showing his trademark Baba symbol (see the image of Baba). Another interesting mannerism is giving shake-hand to his pal for every dialogue he or his friends crack.
  
  Manisha Koirala & Sanghavi: Manisha has a little part to play in the first half and has almost-nil footage in the second half. Shanghavi is just a prop in this film with a couple of dialogues to tell.
  
  Technical Departments
  
  Story - Screenplay: The basic story of the film is good. Its about how an atheist turned into a believer in God! It's based on lots of devotional tales where the greatest devotees of God started their life as atheists. But the screenplay of the film is not smooth and very slow.
  
  Director: Suresh Krishna, who is known for narrating stories with power and punch, could not maintain the same tempo in this film. Some of the scenes in the film are brilliant and Suresh Krishna mastered the art of showing Rajni to a glorifying effect. But the magnification becomes more effective if he has the narration supporting it. But, Suresh Krishna failed to sustain the interest of viewers throughout the film.
  
  Dialogues: Dialogues department in this film needs a special commendation. There are some power-packed dialogues in Baba like - 'aalochinchakundaa matladanu .. matladina tarvatha aalochinchanu'.
  
  Music: The songs of the film are disappointment. But the background music is good. The westernized Baba rap bit that is played at background, when Rajni walks around is very good. AR Rehman's work could have been better
  
  Photography: Photography by Chota K Naidu is good. The special effects done by Cutting Edge are also very suave and make you believe that those effects are natural.
  
  Production: Rajnikanth's intention of mixing the Indian philosophy with mass elements is commendable. At the end of the film Rajni asks the Baba to tell him what everybody should do to have a harmony in society. Baba replies Rajni 3 principles
  
  1. Manasu mariyu Tanuvu parisubramga vundali (You should keep your body and heart very clean).
  2. Kutmbanni eppudu anandamgaa vunchali. (one must keep his/her family very happy)
  3. Itarulaku Vupakaram Chellayi. Upakaramcheyykapoyina parledu kaani .. apakaram cheyyakoodadu. (One must help the society. Even if you don't help society, you should never harm it).
  
  But, Rajni should have made an out and out mass film for the entertainment of crowds. And could have told these three points in some other format using other media, as he has the same reach if he wishes to propagate these points in other format as well. .
  
  Analysis:
  First half of the film is OK. Second half is average. There are some boring moments in the second half. There are political references about the mistakes done by the politicians and their apathy towards helping the poor. These kinds of references work well for the Tamilnadu crowds as that depicts the current situation of Tamilnadu where masses want to see Rajni in the seat of CM. For all its strengths and weaknesses, this film is definitely worth a watch for Ranji's style and mannerisms. We have to wait and see how it clicks with AP crowds.

  Sensational openings:
  
  Rajnikanth's craziest product Baba opened at box office today on 15th of August 2002. The openings of this film are sensational. The black tickets are not available for the show in few theaters of Hyderabad even if you go there a half an hour before show.
  
  Disappointing talk
  
  The average moviegoer is disappointed with the final outcome of the movie. The film generated flop talk in most of the places and average talk in few areas. But, commercially 'Baba' (Telugu) has nothing to lose as Rajnikanth released Telugu version on his own through local distributors. The total budget for this film (for all versions) is said to be just 5 crores.

  BABA is the best movie i have ever seen... I really feel that it should be given the Tamilnade State award for the best movie.. i mean.. it will be..
  Also it is a strong contender for National Awards just ahead of Panchathanthiram... Wait and see..
  National award jury will just live upto the expectation.. Lagaan just took us to the Oscar nomination.. BABA is the only answer to the Minority Reports of the world and the Road to Perditions of the world !!!
