  Unmai - its like this - people like *KAPIL DEV* for what he is.... no one expect him to play like *GAVASKAR*..... so no point in writing a review saying "hey look, kapil is playing like an idiot"....

  This movie is primarily made for Rajini fans. We have a single point agenda, to see Rajini 2:30 hours in the movie. We donot want a solid story line. We just want some good dialogues by thalaivar,decent songs and some new mannerisms. Nobody is exploiting anybody here. He is just playing to the gallery and gives what his fans want. There is nothing wrong with that. Expectations from a Rajinikant movie and Maniratnam movie are vastly different. We go to Thalaivar's movie to have fun while we go to Mani's movie to have different experince. Both are enjoyable. I saw Padaiyappa twice in Chicago. I plan to do that for baba too.   Very well said. No one is expecting Satyajitray stuff from RK. I dont care what the story line or whatever. I will see the movie after things setle down just for the fact that the movie has RK. I am sure I will like it. I know personally RK fan spectrum is very broad with graduates, post graduates, Phds and IIT graduates to just high school dropouts (No offense intended).

  I saw the movie last night at bay area...anybody who had undergone baba orientation will not get dissapointed. The first half was very fast paced, with rollicking comedy and excellant sceenplay. The second half was bit slow and meandered with politics and other stuff. The songs picturization was cool with Rajini exhibiting never-before-done dance movements. Lots of vittalacharya stuff but made with asthetic special effects (please know the story and digest it before getting into the theater). Though age shows on Rajni's face but I though he looked more vibrant than padayappa.

  On to the point what you expect from Rajini,
  
  Why don't you expect something like Johnny? Priya?
  Arilirundu Arubadu Varai? Illamai Oonjaladukirathu? Why do you expect craps? I have no complaints about his acting. He proved long back he is a capable actor. But his movies absoultely makes no sense. I am fed up with his larger than life characters. Moreover he looks so aged. Padayappa was one real crappy movie. Ramyakrishnan did better than Rajini. But the plot itself was silly!! A woman won't come out of a room for years!!! Just because we know what to expect from Rajini, will you accept whatever he gives? "New Mannerisms"... god we cannot reform some tamil fans.. "Thalaivar"... damn it.. some guys will never ever.. NO COMMENTS..

  The fact is that no one expects movies like 6 il irundhu 60 varai and engayo kettu kural from rajini now.... What they need is an entertaining movie and rajini understands what the ppl need.. I grew up as a kamal fan who used to hate rajini for all his stupid movies like athisaya piravi, veetukku oru nallavan and more recently yejaman and veera etc... but the thing is kamal has been doing this all his life , copying movies from hollywood and projecting himself ( in hey ram he comes in each and every scene... in panchathanthiram he sings 'konjam azhagaga en thaan pirandhano' etc) as a sakalakala vallavan... whereas rajini doesnt copy from hollywood movies atleast... (though he does from bollywood movies)... I'm not raising this as a kamal-rajini issue but I do think that there is nothing wrong in rajini fans supporting their Thalaivar.... ppl in US queue up 2 weeks before with tubelite swords for 'star wars' which is a so-called developed country whereas if ppl queue up for rajini, chiranjeevi or amitabh movies they are branded as ignorant ppl from a developing country...

  PanchaThandiram is another stupid movie directly lifted from Hollywood. Most of our tamil movies make no sense. But top heroes like Rajini can change the trend by acting in decent movies.
  He can do two movies. One masala. One character movie. I am not launching any crusade. Everybody is still going to watch BABA.. Everybody is still going to whistle when he comes on screen.. Everybody is still going to pay 200 rupees to see it on first day.. I was one of those stupid fan when i was in high school who saw the movie "SIVA" on first day!! My argument is plot in his movies become increasingly stupid. A good actor has been wasted for the last 10 years. Can he not shed these larger than life characters? He looks very very old. Directors like Suresh Krishna should be executed for coming out with vittalacharya plots like these. I am neither Rajini fan nor kamal fan. Both suck anywayz these days. He better retires.

  Unmai, You may have a point in saying that Rajini's movie does not have a good story line. Why do you want him to retire when people like me are ready to watch his movies , no matter what? If you donot like his movies just avoid it. These days there is no dearth of movies to watch. Once a fan always a fan. I started liking him when I was eight years old. Now I am 29. Still I like him. I liked him when I was in santhome school and I like him when I am in Chicago.That is his magic.

  To say that the movie is terrible is to state the obvious. What makes me wonder is why did Rajni wait for three years to make such a lousy movie. And why was there such a secrecy during the shooting? Such movies are made regularly (in fact 2 and 3 such trash get released in Bollywood every week!). "

  I am a huge fan of Rajni. But I am not blind. A bad movie is a bad movie is a bad movie. If he makes a comeback (and I am betting that he does), I hope that he acts his age. Amitabh learnt it the hard way and is now doing roles befitting his age. Kamal is learning the hard way, with one flop after another. Hopefully, Rajni learns from this movie. "
