  well IR will take care of folk people, ARR has job of elevating Tamil music to World scenario. Imagine a foreigner or an North-Indian listening to Boyz, he wunt make fun of Tamil music for another 10 years.( by the way my 2-month old Nephew doesent sleep,eat, without listening to Girlfriend song.......   hey are yaar n maddy,iam not anti-ARR as other IR fans. i do like his music. but i just dont get the point how come he is working for films. it a pathetic situation for a world level composer like him who survives on music softwares and commercially available loops to spend his precious time in making music for movies . lemme get it clear let ARR rule the music scene apart frm films and let IR rule the film music scene.let ARR cater to the 10% of the population dwelling in urban areas.let IR cater to the rest of sane people.

  yes truth is bitter for the past 4 years Ir has given hits like sethu, bharathi, kaasi, azhagi, solla marantha kathai, ramana, manasellam,Ivan etc., can u name a few ARR hits after alaipayuthey.

  are you forgetting LAGAAN, SAATHIYA, BOMBAY DREAMS in the years after Alaipayuthey. these were the meaningful albums that he did in this period. also he won an national award in this period which IR has never done. come on guys i'm an ardent IR admirer too, but imagine tamil without ARR it wud have been folk music all through as IR cant give heavy metal and fusion music.

  1. I accept lagaan was an excellent composition, but i think i was talking abt TFM. people in this part of country never got to hear lagaan except for a few hindi knowing peoples, fortunately i was one.as for the other two albums u ve mentioned - saathiya was once again alaipayuthey in hindi and BD had 16 of ARRs previous hit tracks.again and again i want to clear this point that IR is the MD for the masses.ARR caters to abt jus 10% of the popualtion.
  2.tamil without ARR wud hav been folk music ?????
  dont u remember who introduced keyboards and computer generated loops in indian movies.it was done for the first time in the film Vikram by IR and he continued it in punnagai mannan and he reapeated these kind of music in many movies after that.as for fusion havent u ever listened to NBW and HTNI. try listening to the songs in barathan, dalapathi,chatriyan,singaravelan, to name a few of IRs experiments in fusion music. long before these films IR had succeeded in fusing folk, western classical, hindustani and karnatic. listen to his songs in late 70's and 80's. if ur realy an admirer of IR u wudnt hav stated this.
  3.as for heavy metal i bow to rahman in indian scenario. but there r better bands to giv HM like black sabbath,scorpions,guns n roses etc.,
  4.CHAMPIONSHIP TAKEN AWAY for providing false informations and obviously match fixing.
  5.IR crowned as the Emperor of TFM .
  6. i think that the thread shud end here by a unanimous declaration that

  i know....soemone will bash me (it happens all the time)...
  but i think it will be more appropriate to say an album was a good..instead of telling all the albums u like as a hit...

  out of the list..i think, the actual hit...are as follow
  
  1) Sethu - as the movie was a hit, and excellent compostion (not denying it)
  2)Bharathi - not sure of the movie, but songs..were too good to be true
  3)Azhagi - great movie...great songs....

  Paran nice point. I support u 100 % Same way I also feel that Kadal Virus, Star, Alli Arjuna, Udhaya, Parasuram were not hits at all by any means no matter how much ARR fans claimed they were great! I think it is natural tendency of every fan be it IR's or ARR's to call their idol's music a soooper hit. Hypothetically, tomorrow if ARR or IR comes up with a ridiculous song where some guy like tippu or devan sings "Aa danakku danakku amukku .. aa danakku danakku gumukku..." ARR fans or IR fans will call it soooooper hit and it is out of the world. You cant do anything, it is human mentality! Just like katchi thondargal saying "yengal thalaivar sathiyathin marupakkam!" when some corrupt politician gets arrested. It is all bullsshit and we know that! Same for ARR and IR fans when they keep rambling abt their idol's every single shit.

  wat the heck is ur thinking man, if ARR is not for the masses, then how did he survive for 11 years in this IR-dominated hostile industry. people do love him. i worship him. yaa one thing is for sure, ARR is not for tamil masses. Tamil masses have proved how bad they are when it comes to accepting an new concept. Tamilians dunt deserve ARR's magic. I sincerely hope ARR leaves this Tamil Nadu and comes to my place Mumbai where people respect him like they do for R.D.Burman and LP. ( by the way Ivan,Solla marantha kathai, manasellam are considered flops by the industry)

  PP, KM, Parasuram, KV, Baba, Uthaya..was not a hit...it's just good songs....

  now we r going in the rgt direction i think. now tht ARRs fans hav started accepting that giving a hit is not a problem but the albums shud be good. consider ARR fans previous claim that IR is out of the field for the past 10-11 years. I can giv an endless list of IRs excellent compositions in the past 10 yrs. If we r going to count them i am sure IR hav given more good tracks than ARR. ARR has completed roughly abt 70 movies in tamil
  [ that shud be the final count if we agree that his hindi or other language nos. were either recycled or vice versa for tamil]
  getting into arithmetics averagely 70x5= 350 nos.
  averaging out there will be not more than 200 good tracks which u can listen again and again.
  IR has done more tahn 100 movies in this 11 years.
  arithmetics again 100x5 = 500 nos.
  averaging out ill be having 325 nos. atleast which i can listen again and again.
  these r just abstrations of watever i think is reasonable.
  if ur gonna hav a challenge on it lets do the exact calculation and lets find out who has given more good nos.

  Hey rajasaranam u got one big problem dude, u'll never come to know y ARR is so gr8. dunt think he survives on softwares and stuff, he didn't use any in Taal ,how did it become a hit. okk fine IR has made more hits than ARR, but that did not reflect in sales or awards, tell me how many geniune awards did IR win after 1992 and how many albums of his broke KAADHALAN's record.....
