I listened to VandeMatharam in which ARR recycled his own tunes from Kizhakku Ceemayile and a touch of a song from Indira.
Also ARR's recent movies for big time producers like Ratchagan and Iruvar (except one song) and Dhoud in Hindi did not have any notable music. Remember ARRs last hit Minsarak Kanavu music was done long time ago.
If for a major album for Sony released on 50th year of Indian Independence, ARR cannot produce original music, then I have to come to the conclusion that he is running out of stuff. I heard that ARR is planning to cut down on movies and concentrate more on albums. Thus he will have to produce less and earn more.
Right now I do not see any difference in the quality of music produced by ARR and Karthik Raja. In fact I think Deva is doing a better job of providing consistant good quality music.

Ennappaa Bhaskar:
naan ezhudhiyadhai oru maadhiri thirichchu interpret paNNitteenga?
I don't think I said ARR doesn't have stuff! ARR has stuff.
When he walked into TFM he had mesmerizing new stuff. Appadi illaamal
IR endra malaiyai makkaLin manadhilirundhu asaiththirukka mudiyumaa?
All that I am saying are the following two points: 1. He is slooow in
churning out stuff. (This is OK; I don't mind that.) 2. aanaal, konjam
konjamaaga one starts to get the feeling that he is not giving stuff
with variety; now, that's more serious.
Now, for an answer to the thread's theme, I would say that the TFM
audience will continue to be captivated by ARR's music for two or three
more years. One has to watch what kind of stuff he gives in this
period. If he continues to give only inspirations of old tunes (including
his own) I think he is doomed.
Yesterday I bought Insuvai tharum ARR-in iniya 40 paadalgaL,
a collection of 3 CDs, for 20+ Sing dollars. Except Thiruda Thiruda
it has almost all the good songs from his early years. They have
also supplied the lyrics. Yesterday only I found out the lyrics for
chicku bukku rayilE for the first time; of course, adhai ENdaa
therinjikittOm endra feeling-um udanE vandhuduchchu! Some of the songs
of Indra and Kizhakku SeemaiyilE I am hearing for the first time.
They are very good.

Hi guys :
I was listening to Rangeela CD for the first time today and guess what : another lift by ARR !
The 'Spirit of Rangeela' instrumental is a lift from the Boney-M song 'Ra Ra Rasputin'.
vAzgha ARR !

pg, i have not listened to Rangeela. Are you sure? A lift from such world famous pieces?

I am very sure. The Rangeela piece is a list of th e interlude music of 'Rasputin' song.
Another :
In pudhiya mugam cassette, there is a instrumental piece called 'Instrumental Music' - this is NOT even a composition of ARR at all - this is by a song by the group Modern Talking - meaning this is not copied by ARR but is a direct recording of the Modern Talking song ! I wonder why this song was recorded on the Pudhiya Mugam cassette.

Typo: The Rangeela piece is a list of th e interlude music of 'Rasputin' song.
should read
The Rangeela piece is a lift of th interlude music of 'Rasputin' song (which is very very distinctive).

Even there was a song from "Kizhakku SeemaiyilE"
goes like "Vandil mAAdu munnai pOkuthamMa, valkai
patta ponnu maAnam pinnai", is lifted (at least that's what I feel) from IR's "Ponnu Urrukku Puthusu." That goes starts like "Unakenaththanai"
IMO, he had stuff but definitely he does NOT have
now.
It takes so long to compose a song, because he
has to listen to other songs and do cut & paste
stuff.
Thanks,
Nesan P

Here you go!! Another one.!!
Listen to "pennalla pennalla othaaPPu. sivantha kannankal " then listen to "Pesum mani muthuy rojakkal pillaikal ellarum rajakkal" See if there are any similarities. You will find out that was the exact copy. So, if he really running out of stuff? No definitely not, until other MDs like IR exits.
Thanks,

Hi Tfm Lovers,
Rahman also repeats what he has already done. If you have listened to 'usilampatti ..' from Gentleman and 'Konjam Nilavu ...' from Thiruda Thiruda you will notice that the base is the same in both the songs. Do you remember 'Hilkore Hilkore ..' (Minsaara Kanavu) is same as
'Kokkarakokko Kokkarakokko' (Pachchakili Paadum pattu from Karuththamma}.

It's better to change the Topic to " Why does ARR do the same Ctrl^C Ctrl^V stuff over and over".?
Everyone agress that it's a fact (including ARR's fans) , but no-one is able to come up w/ a reasoning as to why TFM fans put up with this torture .?? I am totally clueless .? Does it mean that TFM fans admire and encourage this technique..- i mean lifting/re-cycling technique

"The big disappointment is A R Rahman`s music. He`s begun to sound boringly repetitive. The
number Milgayee, milgayee is a straight lift from a popular Tamil tune. A famine of ideas, this?" - Deccan Herald on Kabhi Na Kabhi .

I dont think you can assume, how much I `dont' know about western music. :))
You maybe aware how IBM survives ( IBM bought Lotus corp., - down sized etc). The whole game is to continue to innovate. Mottai should do the same!!. ( The joke is I am an IR fan!)
This thread started out with the theme, is ARR running out of stuff. It looks as if this is one more ARR bashing thread. Poor ARR, what wrong has he done other than making TFM national . Any ARR basher, can listen to anjali, anjali from duet, especially the last flute interlude, just before SBP sings, where the flute interlude just ends.
Sitting inside a recycling bin trying to find out how recycled the music is is not what I would do when I listen to music. If the music is good, and enjoyable, full marks to the music director.

MSK:
I did not add original music director, as 'ALL' MDs continue to recycle their bins and serve apparently new stuff.
ARR is currently no 1, far ahead than the current list of MDs in India. Whether or not most TFMers keeps bashing ARR about his environmental preference, his success speaks for his talent.

i was listening to 'kabhi na kabhi' the other day and it has our own 'anjali anjali' ('duet'). The funny thing is, duet itself was dubbed and released in hindi not too long ago ! maybe ARR must start listening to more cds.
