All times in EST +10:30 for IST.
I listened to VandeMatharam in which ARR recycled his own tunes from Kizhakku Ceemayile and a touch of a song from Indira.
Also ARR's recent movies for big time producers like Ratchagan and Iruvar (except one song) and Dhoud in Hindi did not have any notable music. Remember ARRs last hit Minsarak Kanavu music was done long time ago.
If for a major album for Sony released on 50th year of Indian Independence, ARR cannot produce original music, then I have to come to the conclusion that he is running out of stuff. I heard that ARR is planning to cut down on movies and concentrate more on albums. Thus he will have to produce less and earn more.
Right now I do not see any difference in the quality of music produced by ARR and Karthik Raja. In fact I think Deva is doing a better job of providing consistant good quality music.

K.R.Ravi ,
I agree with you. If i get a chance to talk/write to IR, the only thing i want to say is "Why don't u hire a Good marketing Guy .??". In fact if IR lacks something in his music compared to ARR , it is the way he markets his product. ARR is too good at it.
Yesterday i watched Kilakkum merkum to listen to the BGM. (Damn, i had to watch this peice of Junk for the sake of verifiying kumudam's crappy news)
The songs were excellent(4 of them were real Good) , but the movie was a mess. So all the songs are a big waste b'cos this movie would have run for atmost a week.??
IR need not have wasted all these songs for this.?
When people are advertising and marketing terrible products, IR has great stuff, but they don't get the right credit. Maybe IR does'nt care anymore.????????

After going thru' pages of invectives thrown upon ARR, (inlcuding mine),
I actually feel sorry for ARR. Imagine that IR never existed ... which undoubtably
means a BIG VOID in the 80's with a 'DEVA' in the early 90's.
Then the whiz-kid ARR, could've perhaps won the hearts of half of us, if not for his music ....
atleast for his 'Sound'. Like its been already told,
he is innovative (in certain aspects).. which is shown in IRuvar an MK... here and there.
So whats the reason behind all this... ?
As far as Madras is concerned....its becos of comparisons made between the 2...that makes the blood of IR fans, boil. So its not ARR's fault... he is just doing his job and we are not doing anything better. In fact we are denying him his minute share of applause, becos his products are literally pushed these days. Imagine this.. I saw more than 10 versions of JEANS CD's at Landmark, with each version containing additional sound tracks from two other tamizh films (by IR / deva).. apart from Jeans itself. No producer has (not even K.T.Kunj) pampered ARR more than Ashok Amritraj... but all the same, ARR's latest product is not going to lie on the racks... not with Ashwarya Rai modelling for it !...;-)

All IR fans whose blood is boiling, like Krishnakumar said, do not worry, let it boil!!!
ARR is the future of TFM.
P.S: BUY the JEANS CD immediately!!!!

Narayan :
My sympathy is with you. I guess you have already gone had, with a rash decision of bying the CD for 400 or more worthy Indian Rupees.
Ayoo pavvam ! I can already imagine you.. forcing yourself to like the music.. for all the money you have spent on it. And now since you have bought it... you don't want to be left alone in this predicament, you want to share your sorrows with fellow byers.
ARR is the future of TFM....but at what cost ?
NARAYAN is the future prototype of TFM fans.
PS:Don't even buy the Cassette !!!

Thanks. I didn't know till now that ottagaththai
kattikkO is by SJ.
NOV:
Thanks. Yesterday I was doing some browsing in a
music store, and there were so many CDs with ARR
songs. I was going through the list of songs only
to find out that I am probably familiar only with
about a quarter of his songs. Now I am going thro'
some of the ARR Threads to find out more about
the songs about which I know nothing. I remember
you started a thread titled, Best of ARR;
it is probably in the archives. I hope it has a
detailed list of ARR songs, with some comments?

Better than that Sathya Keerthi, it has a complete list of ARR movies, with some good recommendations. It should serve your purpose.

Rajaraman:
Thanks for the effort. I will check out Satish's page.
In the list you've given I have heard only two
songs: ottagaththa and Gopaalaa.
Are the other songs any good? I didn't know that
there was a Rangeela Tamil version!
NOV:
Jeans has made you a ARR fan?
Not really! He is certainly very good. But,
IMO, he doesn't have the capability to
churn out marvellous tunes left and right, in fast
time, like IR and MSV. Obviously, therefore, his
tunes lack the variety! However, I should add that,
once he has a good tune, I feel he takes a great
deal of effort and time to give it the best possible
deserved finish, better than others. His music has certainly
captivated the TFM audience for a number of years,
but, unless he shows variety (kaNNOdu
kaaNbadhellaam-like new stuff) I wonder how
long that captivation will continue.
I am just trying to find out more about his
compositions, that's all! I don't think Jeans
has anything to do with it.
