I saw Virumandi by paying extra.
Why KAMAL..? Why u proved all that told by K.Balachander in Virumandi VIZHA.
It is better to have directors like BHARATHAN ( DEVAR MAHAN ) to deliver a good interesting movie.
Virumandi was very raw and not able to sit in the second half.
Dont confuse the audience with ur confused state of mind.
Iam UPSET and my friends ridicule me as a fan of yours.

  Mr.Kuppusamy,
  Vikrams Dhool and Saamy were mega hits but PM just made profits and is not considered as a mega hit, you can get this from The Hindu or Sify.
  
  "That is good acting and also big commercial hits."
  
  
  Kamal hassan's Indian, Monram Pirai and Nayakan were commercial hits and also won him National awards, Vikram is just following the traits of Sivaji and Kamal.

  As said earlier, SIvaji's movies would seem out of place when watched now. Obviously that is no more the trend. That's the main reason why a comparison would prove futile.

  Nobody is beyond comparison. He is not great because he won international awards. He was great because he brought in path breaking acting in Tamil Films. Ofcourse his days were that of overacting, oversinging(by TMS) and he did that to get the fame then.
  
  You can't deny Kamal's genious in taking everything in cinema to perfection. His hardwork is unparalleled.
  
  KannanfromSydney was trying to put his acting talent down by saying Kamal is good technician than actor. That is not correct. He is a great genius actor who also takes parts in other arena of cinema making. Sivaji was a great genius actor of his time.

  on this whole sivaji-kamal issue, i have only one thing to say:
  
  the scenes I love most in tamil cinema are the ones in "devar magan" where both sivaji AND kamal act together. they're subtly played, superb--the best acting i have ever seen in any movie (english, tamil, hindi, whatever). they are both excellent accomplished artists. i take no pleasure in supporting one while putting down the other.

  I thought we were more into likes and dislikes for their acting rather than their box-office clout. Don't take this personally, but I am guessing Sivaji fans to be atleast 10-15 years elder to me. If such elderly people can't take part in an argument without getting emotional right now, I can very well imagine how it would have been between Sivaji-MGR fans in those days.

  Vikram the current numero uno has had flops too -Kadal sadukudu, King, Samurai.

  The award for Kotta Bomman was given to the movie and not to the actor Sivaji. That too for purely political reasons. At that time The Egyption President Naser liberated the Suez canal from the clutches of the british with much efforts, hence in order to show his anger against the British , the award was given to Katta Bomman.
  Further Egyption film award is not a prestigious award like CANNES.
  Moreover when asked who is the best actor in India-
  
  A malayalee will say - PREM NASIR
  A Kannadiga will say _ Raj Kumar
  A Mana vadu will say - Nageswara Rao
  A Hindiwala will say - Ashok Kumar
  
  Shivaji is not acknowledged outside Tamilnadu and in fact many people do not know him!
  
  Whereas Kamal is known allover India - Ek Dhuje Keliya ran all over India with great success. Tell one film of the overacting, loud mouthed shivaji which ran in other states successfully.
  
  Shivaji and MGR were at the same level appealing to the illiterate common people.
  
  Kamal.Someone earlier had rightly compared Shivaji with the Bullock cart and Kamal with Ford IKON.

  The movie Manohara was made in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi; quite successful in all these languages. Well, I can say Sivaji is like high-end Mercedes Benz and Kamal is like Ford Ikon. Quality differs!!
  One thing every one admits: Shivaji had great quality in most of his movies and successful in all aspects,including commercially. Kamal is definitely not a commercially successful actor. Don't you feel Kamal hypes too much for all his movies?

  I watched the movie last night.
  It was well worth the ticke money. After a long time I got to see a movie that was thoroughly engrossing and of high quality.

  In my opinion Sivaji is an Antha kala Plymouth car which had grotesque design in modern sense but still is viwed as a clasic by some. Was considered one of THE best cas to own in its time. But current era people wont like it that much and will call it too huge.
  
  Kamal is like an S-class mercedes modern current, trendy and abs0lutely clasic all the way.
  
  SO it is basically what car u like. I condemn anyone who says mercedes cant even come close to plymouth classic. There is only one clasic car in worl that is Plymouth and all that.

  Since you are hanging so much with the commercial success of a film,if you go and talk to old timers they will always say Sivaji gave many flops{commercially] compared to MGR.It happened because he did lot of roles some clicked and some not compared to MGR.I will not compare Sivaji with how many hits he gave it is only the quality of his films which are unmatchable.I am not sure about authenticity of a magazine which claimed the first film of Sivaji was a superhit and it ran more than 25 weeks.The next movie to run silver jubliee was only 'Vasantha Maligai'.May be you can clarify me on this and I may be wrong.
  
  You also mentioned about Kamals look in this age.This is the biggest joke if you compare Sivaji at this age.Everybody in this forum would agree with those huge belly duets with Sripriya when he was at this age that is around 50.

  I dont know where it all stared. Its all different. You can not compare Sivaji with Kamal and so does Kamal with Vikram/Danush. Just the way you can not compare who is best in your family, your grand father, your father, you or your child. They are all best during "their time".

  I think Sivaji had belly duets throughout his acting career didn't he? Have never seen a movie in which he looked utterly thin.
  
  Kamal may look old now but he has shown his dedication to maintaining his physique just for movies. In guna he lost so much wait just to look so shoddy and in Alavandhan he had a gym set-up in the shooting spot for working out and he pumped up big time!!!
  
  This is one aspect of Kamal Ilove. HE absoultely gets seriously into the roles he is playing and re-structures himself completely!

  i dont know who says that sivaji was more succesfull than kamal at box office.. sivaji most successfull movie was thirusolam which came soo late in his career.... since his younger ages kamal had sucess in bollywood .. now he is still having success in tamil... otherwise the producers are not stupid to pay him 5 kodi a movie. there are two kind of sucess we are talking abt here...
  
  sammy was a block buster that that was 100 days in 11 centers in tamil nadu... that is the most successfull vekram movie and surys kakka kakka only 100 days in 7 centers but that was a hit for those guys....
  
  kamal avvai sanmughi ran for 100 days 32 centers in tamil and 31 centers in telugu... thenali 29 centers in tamil nadu and it was sucessfull in telugu and kanada... INDIAN that was huge ... that is the reason he gets paid soo much... beacuse the money they get back is huge... 20 times more with what they get with vikram ans surya and all the yound actors....
  
  technically speakin... kamal alavandan was 100 days in 9 centers.. including devi paradise in
  mountroad and 7 other theaters... but it is comsidered a flop.. while surya kakka kakka was a hit but it just ran 100 days in 6 centers soo.. so u get the idea who is commercially worth more...
  
  kamal and rajini have diff level of sucess.. if kamal is not a commercial actor he would have been around this long and still wont get paid 5 kodi a movie...
  
  just to give u an idea... kamal avvai sanmughi brough in 15 kodi in tamil nadu and 14 kodi in andra.. but he only get paid 5 kodi... rajini BABA was expected to run 100 days in 80 centers including both tamil badu and andra theaters... even thoough it was a flop it made money...
  
  tamil nadu max cinema collections cant exceed 20 crores that is the limit.. kamal movies if they are hit rack in 15 - 16 crores... vikrams sammy would be around 7 - 8 crores...
  
  no can last this long and still in demand if they are not commercially sucessfull.. even if it is kamal... look what is happen to karthick prabhu sathyarai all those guys.. KAMAL is still in demand and always in demand infact kamal is raising his pay to 8 crore and rajini stopped producing for others a long time ago
