AR Rahman's Tamil Blockbuster "BOYS"

Rahman's much anticipated "Boys" is set to release soon and everyone is keen on finding out more about this album. Who are the singers? What are the soundtracks like? When is the release date? Will the album be delayed? If anyone has any idea; please post here....

Here is what i found::

Typical of Shankar, the director is not prepared to say much about the film at this point. However, it is known that the film will be very youthful, almost teeny-bop, in content, with the majority of the cast being in the 16-23 age group.

Shankar, apparently, has decided to cast all new faces in his film – and the younger the better.

In fact, a mention in various Tamil periodicals, and an accompanying advertisement to the effect that Shankar was looking for new faces, has created a headache of sorts for the producers. Curriculums vitae have been pouring in to the Surya Movies post box ever since the ad and the story ran in the vernacular press – and last heard from, the flood shows no signs of abating.

Curiously enough, the ad appears – thanks to emails and discussion groups – to have reached an audience abroad as well, with the result that newer batches of applications have US, British and suchlike stamps on them, which suits the producer and director fine since the film does incorporate a lot of NRI faces.

For Shankar, Boys will be a return to romance after Kadhalan, and to comedy after the Aishwarya Rai-Prashanth starrer Jeans. Though the film will feature fresh – and ergo, inexpensive – faces, Shankar maintains that the film will be typical of his style, which means lavish budgets, and expensive production values.

  It is a disgrace to Metallica.. They are purely Trash/Speed Metal, comparing them to ARR?? ( no doubt ARR is a different type of Musician) you must be kidding. Style is not even close.

  I think film makers are trying to overcome piracy by adding vulgarity to the movies. This way the movie is kept from being viewed at home with the family.

  Anyways, i just happened to read the webulagam review. as far as i am concerned I dont buy that, the first 45 minutes was pretty good, the Technology for Girlfriend ( i have to wait to see the the whole movie when the DVD is out in the stores). (Dunellen NJ theatre sucks, people who live in NJ, US surely know what I am talking about if they came to see boyz in Dunellen on Friday).
  
  People are talking about vulgarity, it was then in Bagyaraj movie (Mundanai mudichu), Karakatakaran. There is a difference between percieved vulgarity and actual and top of that, the mind that thinks.
  
  May be Boyz was not realistic at some points of time (I think a movie is all about fantasy).
  
  The claim about two movies like TI and Punnagai desam-> i dont know.
  
  Music-wise, i did not hear a "sollikara mathiri" bgm

  Explorations of adolescent behaviour, turmoil and crisis are cinematically old hat.
  I have not seen Boyz (a very tamizh title for sure) but for those who are debating the realism and fantasy and natural/vulagarity of the film, it would be worthwhile to consider the following films which were also "youth" centred and dealt with issues of sex and sexuality:

  Oh Manju
  Panneer Pushpangal
  Azhiyadha Kolangal
  Nenjaththai Killadhae
  Alaigal Oiyvadhillai
  Uyirullavarai Usha
  Oru Thalai Raagam
  Ninaivellam Nithya
  
  Just a random but interesting list to ponder when comparing then and now.
  
  Sex is not vulgar. Using "sex" as a vehicle to set the box-office ringing is.
  
  (I might just see Boyz, and will share my views when I have sampled the offerings for myself!)

  I saw the review of Web Ulagam .....It is good to deal with realism ,but it ha sto be delat with prositivness!!!! Glorifying something which is immoral ,but real does not certify it to be a good film ..esp i read in that review that in review that a guy will behave sexually with a young mother carrying the child ..Is this acceptale ???? I can accept sexuality between lovers ,but how abt these ???

  BOYS NO : 1 IN SUN TV TOP TEN (SONGS) IT took nearly 2.5 yrs for ar to regain the 1 spot... atlast he is back. the only film he was one last yr was baba .

  Apart from sex orientation BOYS flops because of the following
  Very bad Climax
  Unnecessary killing of Kumar,one of the Heroes...Remember in INDHIYAN also Shankar unnecessarily killed Junior Kamalahasan
  Unnecessary Jail sequences with repulsive jail atmosphere.
  Vivek's stupid portrayal.I feel Arjun in a Special appearance would have done better justice to that role.
  Too lengthy scenes of SONY Cassettes with irritating North Indian old man.
  After entertainment taxes and theatre rentals Boys is expected to bring in a net inflow of four to five crores from 200 prints in Andhra and Tamilnadu and producers are sure to loose more than 12 to 14 crores overall as they have directly distributed in all territories in South India.

  finally after the much hyped promos and marketing stunts the movie is released and bombed at box-office. This is a forum to find the reasons behind the flop of the much expected movie of the year. not even ARR's music hav helped this movie to even be a average hit.
  
  When one of my freinds called me for the movie i replied we cant get tickets as its booked for the first ten days in advance. he asked me to accompany him and promised that he'll manage to get a ticket in black market. the theatre we chose was Udhayam and he said that if the tickes were too costly we can go to Satyam to watch BAD BOYS. so we started out early and were at the theatre by 9.00 p.m for the night show. to our surprise we found a queue at the counter. when i asked "is it for advance booking" the reply was "no for the current show". I was shocked as there were claims before the movie was released that it was booked for 10-15 days. I realised that this was a clear marketing stunt employed, as it was done for the music album too that 1.5 lakhs units were sold.
  
  We managed to get the tickets and went in to watch the show. as the show begun i expected a huge round of applauds for ARR as his name appeared in the screen - the theatre was silent!!!!! well there were nice deal of whistles and applauds for the song 'Girlfriend' after that the spectators watched the movie in silence except at scenes which were funny with grace of Vivek.
  personally i felt the movie was good in the first half but all damage was done in the second half with a very bad screenplay. while the whole theatre watched the movie in silence as there was 'no other go' - mayaana amaidhi!!! i asked my freind halfway during the second half " vitukku polama?". he replied "kaasu koduthu vanthachu meedhi karumathyum parthu tholaipom"
  
  after watching the whole my observations are
  1. it had a reasonable and justified music by ARR for such a theme by Shankar
  2. it had good camera works by Ravi.k. chandran
  3. it had good set designing by sabu cyril
  to be short it had everything best the industry cud offer including graphics. but with a bad screenplay the whole movie has collapsed as it happened for Aalavanthan and Baba.
  
  after viewing the whole movie i thought i cud hav chosen BAD BOYS instead of this BADLY made BOYS.
  
  Another intersting observation i made was that the whole theatre went bersek with whistles and applauds when they started showing the trailer for the movie THIRUDA THIRUDI when the BOYS gav us a GAP. and when the song 'Manmatha Raasa' was played the real boys in the theater started dancing. Dappanguthu music rules still in this part of the world it seems.
