Thanks for your kinds words; don't know whether I deserve of it or not. All I did was to list out some songs from my dad's era. :)
As for Kupps, Eden and others, indeed they are knowledgeable. Next to them and even you, I know nothing about raagas, brigas, kattais, etc. :)
All I am is an ordinary rasigan.
Sabesan
At my age, anyone approaching 30 is a kizhavan. :)
I was exposed to a lot of MSV songs and always used to argue with dad, who doesn't like IR. You are right, most older folks do not like IR's brand of music.
As for your "flowing" songs, I am not sure whether I know what you mean, but here is a sample:
1. Engeyum eppothum sangeetham santhosham
2. Happy indru muthal happy
3. Oli mayamaana ethirkkaalam en ullathil therigirathu
4. Endrum pathinaaru vayathu pathinaaru
5. Aagaya panthalile ponnunjal aaduthammaa
6. Pasumai niraintha ninaivugale
7. Aandavan padaichaan en kitte koduthaan
8. Odum megangale oru sol keliro
9. Innum paarthu kondirunthaal ennaavathu
10. Etho etho etho oru mayakkam
Are these the kind of songs you are looking for?
Eden
Here are some samples of "emotion 'love mixed with inam puriyAdha oru tinge' of sOgam"
1. Amaithiyaana nathigalile odam
2. Paattukku paatteduthu naan paaduvathai kelayo
3. Enakkaagavaa naan unakkaagavaa
4. Unnidam mayangugiren ullathaal nerungigiren
5. Ennai yaarendru enni enni nee paarkiraai
6. Ponnai virumbum boomiyile ennai virumbum oruyirey
7. Neerodum vaigaiyile nindraadum meeney
8. Oraayiram paarvaiyile un paarvaiyai naan ariven
9. Nee enge en ninaivugal ange
10. Vizhiye kathai ezhuthu kanneeril ezhuthathe
I feel such soft kind of mixed emotion (melidhAga izhayOdum sOgam) is quite rare in the pre-IR era
I hope you will now change your opinion on this matter. :)
Sorry about exceeding the numbers. I got carried away. :)

ROTFL - "Engeyum eppodhum" and "Aagaya panthalile" - i agree..... not sure what are 9 and 10 songs are......
and "Olimayamanaa edhirgalaam" - sorry to say this - the lyrics *encourage* you - but TMS voice sounds like "aioo enodaaa life mosamaaa irukaaeeeyy" - may be the situation demanded it, but certainly this does'nt evoke any response in me.....

Honestly I am not very clear about what you are looking for, if not I would have given you a better selection. I had assumed you meant fun-filled songs.

ROTFL - its really not *fun* filled songs.... i don't know how to express it..... the songs that when u hear, just goes and fills ur heart with *happiness* or that happy feeling..... that makes u fly..... that takes ur memory to the FUN times, u had in ur life.....
say like the song iam hearing now "Paarthaaen Sirithaaeeen, Rasithaeeen" (not the old song, but the new Prasanth Starring song) from the movie "paarthaaeen Sirithaaeeen".....

ROTFL - have u heard the BGM that REX used to have in his website from the movie "Kizhakae Poggum Rail" - an excellant piece..... let me check that and give a link to u..... not sure if everyone would have the same feeling - but whenever i hear it - its like, u get carried to a *different* world.... u have *only* happiness in that world.... the feeling u have in ur TEENS..... i get to have that feeling in many of IR's songs and BGM's.....

Neerodum vaigaiyile nindraadum meeney -this is in fact a thalattu-I found this only after seeing the movie.this does not sound like a lullaby at all.
Vizhiye kathai ezhuthu kanneeril ezhuthathe-this is not a love song with a tinge of sogam-this was intended to be a sad song. Then MGR found out they had no dream sequence at all in the film-so this song was converted into a love song and a dream sequence..
Amaithiyaana nathigalile odam -whatever gave you the idea this is a love song?listen to the lyrics and please tell us.just because sivaji sings this withy a female on a boat this is not a love song-the verses are more like a thathuva paadal.
ponnai virumbum boomiyile-sivaji is handicapped and he is sadly singing this song appreciaitng ?devika that he likes him.this is not a joyous number with a tinge of sogam.
paatuku paateduthu-this is again a sad song.not a happy song where the emotion of melancholy just touches the song.
I have not seen the rest-so I cannot comment-but I vagueley remember orayiram parvaiyile-thsi seemed like a sad song picturised on (!)asokan-the way it was picturised did not seem as if the participants were jumping about with joy.
come on ROTFL,
I have a feeling you have not seen these movies at all or do not know the facts as in case of vizhiye.all the songs you have listed as love songs with a tinge of sadness are all,in fact, sad songs.
and to remind you,you still have not given the matching nos for the songs I gave you...

the best eg suresh given is adhkaalai nerame-the words, orchestration, picturisation -all are that of a classical love song-but that tinge of melancholy pervaded throughout the song as in the case of putham pudhu poo poothatho.Another eg is oru kanam oru yugam from nadodi thenral.
//always used to argue with dad//
sure you did not get the list from dad?:-)

We are not talking about situations here. Discussions is solely on songs.

Nalla koothu.
Thanks for your comments.
I would rather wait for Eden or anyone else whose knowledge of TFM is beyond IR, to comment.

Very tempting I must say, but I shall resist, thank you. :)

rotfl,

Agreed. But that is not what Eden wants to discuss. Please read old responses to rekindle your memory.

I may have my faults but wiggling out is not one of them. Surely you know that by now. :)

OK Sabesan, I didnt mean to say or comment about your list of songs in particular but to all the IR songs that have been listed so far in this thread by anyone. Im sorry if that offended you. Another song that I would like to get to everybodys notice is the song "kana kaanum kangal mella.." how about the emotion in this song. The only minus point about the song is the someimes jarring interludes but I guess that was more done to bring out the mental tormentation of the heroine in the film. But as far as the melody goes I guess this song is defenitely on par with the IR gems that you all have listed if not better. There is one song that is my personal fav. to bring happiness in most basic a kind of rustic form. The song is "Aarodum mannil engum neerodum.." from the movie Pazhani that defenitely does bring in a kind of joy and the smell of freshness so typical of countryside.
Eden: "Uravenum pudhiya vaanil" is undoubtedly a good emotional number, which is one my most personal fav. I like this even better than "Paruvame pudgiya paadal". If you havent seen the pictuarisation then look for that, God I love Madras shown in the movies in early 80's. Mahendran with the help of Balu Mahendra really has doena great job. Another emotion filled song from IR/Mahendran/Balu Mahendra trio is the song "azhagiya kanne uravugal neeye". Wonderful BGMs and picturisation. Though I appreciate IR a lot and an big fan of his I still dont think that saying that he is the king is warranted.
