I wanted to mention earlier as well..it is not worth arguing who is THE best in handling emotions. I would only say IR is there along with the masters. Still, if we can control our passions, we can compare and contrast songs on how specific MDs and lyricists have handled the emotions - some criterion I can think of are -
1) Bhavam (mostly contributed by the singers)
2) Lyrics
3) Tune
4) Orchestration (eg. enge nimmadhi)
Also, I do not agree with previous poster that everybody should express their disagreement. In that case, I need to quit my job and be full time here :)

"Also, I do not agree with previous poster that everybody should express their disagreement. In that case, I need to quit my job and be full time here :)"
U didnt mention names, but if it was me, I did not say everyone shud disagree wit everything. All i said is that if u wish disagree on something, then that is not a WRONG thing. And I said DF doesnt exist only to agree but also to diagree whenever u feel strongly against something that has been mentioned.
no playing wit my words pls.

Speaking of personal attacks or PAs, what is calling someone "immature"? A love-fest?
"I do not agree with u about ARR doing justice to pathos song" ... Raghu
I dont give a damn if ur a HCARRF, HCIRF, HCSPBF and neither do i care if u think IR is better than ARR, MSV or Imaan in pathos, rap or therukoothu. I did NOT make any comparisons and make any statements like this MD is better than that MD. Too bad u can only remember 2 songs by ARR. That is ur loss. But u dont have to cheapen ur thread by unnecessarily bringing in the same old ARR vs IR bullcrap. And after this dont make ur usual hue and cry about 'stick to the topic'. U made a very unwarranted statement and tat jus reflects upon ur maturity level. If u want to play to the crowds, go ahead and entertain urself. I'm not going to waste my time arguing with u any further... WN
btw, ROTFL forgot to mention tat lallang is a weed.... WN
As our good friend ROTFL would say "why do you have to get so hot under the collar"?
"people cud not handle what he was saying (truth hurts?) and decided to make PAs on him"
does this gem from you apply to your response to Raghu too??

tigger, I dont know what u r hoping to achieve out of this...have u have been going digging around to see if I started any PAs?
"what is calling someone "immature"?"
Wow! Nice to see u quote "immature" when I did not even use that word. I questioned maturity level based on his need to bring ARR vs IR into this. If u conclude that this is "immature" on ur own, then I rest my case.
"As our good friend ROTFL would say "why do you have to get so hot under the collar"?"
I was pissed off bcos he told me he did not "agree" wit me on something i never said. If u can blow up if someone misquoted u, why shudnt i display half tat annoyance?
How wud u like it if i said, "tigger I dont agree wit u that IR is bad in TFM", when u never even said anything like tat?
There was no truth in his statement, jus indirect misquoting.
And pls go ahead and add more digressions, tigger.

I will stop the digressions now. I guess I wanted to make the point that every time you guys have scolded others, the exact same words apply to you too and that you are no better or no worse than anyone else.

tigger, I dont know what u mean by "scolded"...
If u notice I did not start PAs wit raghu first. He started it when he started saying things like 'f', idiot etc. U start outright PAs and have even blatantly supported others who do tat. When someone degenrates a thread by starting PAs, u blame the person whom u feel provoked such a response and support the one who made the PA.
I dont think we'll even be able to see eye to eye on this. So yes, let's stop the digression.

To the guys who seem to bring out so many examples of IRs emotion filled songs, there are many number of songs that I can quote from the earlier era. Just one song that I think is worth a great mention is the song "Devan koil maniyosai" this song has stopped short of bringing everybody to tears. Listen to the song if you havent in the original voice of Sirkali Govindarajan. Im sure that this is much more effectively done than those songs that have been listed a little before. I have to say that Im a great admirer of Mahendran and to an extent Balu Mahendra, but those songs of "un kannil neer vazhindhaal", "Nenjathai killadhe" are the works of the Director and cameraman not that of the MD. If the same kind of technology and facilities were available then I guess there would have been such wonderfully picturised songs too.

sabesan,
how about:
raagangal pathinaaru - thillu mullu
oru chinna paravai annaiyai thedi - madhana maligai
I got both these songs from my SPB - the Golden Collection CD.

tigger - iam terribly sorry.... again good numbers, but iam thinking again and again the songs u mentioned, they certainly do not evoke the *happiness*..... atleast the "oru chinna paravvaai" - to an extent yes....
CM sir - oru doubt..... "Devan Koil maniosaai" - shall we say its the *work* of JUST Sirkaazhi Govindarajan alone - no credits to lyrics or the MD ? enna sir vizhayadareengallaaa.... hmm... u know there are lots that i want type - as answers to u - but i think in the *interest* of this thread, iam not going to say anything.....

oru chinna paravai ..is a fantastic rhythm+melody number..something ARR would be ready to appreciate..does anybody know about this composer - M B Srinivasan. There are 2 other songs of him on dhool.com. One is a oldies/classic - thennenkeethu oonjalilE, the other is thuli thuli mazhai thuLi - which sounds like IR. So this gentleman has tried quite a lot of styles. Any info on this composer would be interesting.

but those songs of "un kannil neer vazhindhaal", "Nenjathai killadhe" are the works of the Director and cameraman not that of the MD
I strongly disagree CM 'cause I've not seen both these movies but the songs are etched in my heart & mind...esp `uRavenum pudhiya vAnil' of NK, it was so novel and romantic...& as I mentioned in another thread sometime back, the ambience is just too good. If someone listens (without any bias & in a good music system), will conclude this as a song of late 90's and may even tempt to credit with ARR:-)
ROTFL, I knew `yArai nambi' is not from PM or AM...those are a couple of Sivaji movies with good song examples (depicting correctly the real human emotions) was what I was trying to say.
OK, since you're particular about the number 5, here are some 5 samples of Raja...all belonging to the category of the emotion `love mixed with inam puriyAdha oru `tinge' of sOgam', special contributions by the preludes / interludes in the songs are worth mentioning...Raja uses them to pizhinjify one's heart & mind (FYI, I haven't seen some of these movies at all):
1. kodiyilE, malligappoo (kadalOrakkavidhaigaL0
2. vetti vEru vAsam (mudhal mariyAdhai)
3. enna satham indha nEram (punnagai mannan)
4. rOjAvaiththAlAttum thendral SPB/SJ version (ninaivellAm nithyA)
5. Ayiram malargalE malarungaL (niRam mArAdha pookkaL)
I feel such soft kind of mixed emotion (melidhAga izhayOdum sOgam) is quite rare in the pre-IR era...the previous era was predominantly `melodramatic' with rare exceptions...it was quite the order of the day in 80's:-))

...and please, don't think these are all for this kind of emotion...I have a big list, but then there had been enough of listings / listing threads in DF:-))
