  when did TFMusic site become TFmovie site?this whole topic is about SUCCESSFUL FILMS not having good songs.so the topic concentrates on the film aspect and is not related to the forum at all.

  MR is an excellent cinematographer. As for his biggest hits...hmmm...I would recommend Roja for insomniacs. IMO, Fazil and Vasanth are far better than MR. Up north, Hrishikesh Mukherji and Guru Dutt take the cake.

  i tend to agree with vijay that discussing the talents (or the lack of it) of Maniratnam is certainly not within the purview of TFM more so because we are not even discussing the quality of tfm in his movies. btw what has the topic "Good movies without great songs in recent Tamil Films - Are there any?" to do with any of this?
  
  With an attempt to bring the discussion to its desired place, i suggest that we list all the hit movies of 1997-98 and the songs alongside and the picture will emerge. we can then discuss on the impact of great songs on the success of the movies.
  
  PS: Ravi, Rajaraman & Co: If you are considering diversifying into Tamil Film Discussion Forum, do it now. perhaps in those discussions we can look forward to some interesting discussion on tamil film music.

  Guys... This topic is a relic from the old days, when digressions were just that. :-). If such a topic has been started recently I would have terminated it... I feel that people have unnecesarily lost their temper in this thread. I'll delete some of the postings and leave the thread in if people are willing to carry on the discussion along the lines suggested by Badri. This thread 'can' be viewed as the flipside of the Q., how important are songs to movies.
