  sk,I think it means that all those prayOgams r permitted.Eg.-for vasanthA,the ArO can be
  S G M D N S or S M G M D N S.SO,this implies that both the S-G-M and S-M-G-M prayOgams can be employed.
  Can u give the other RavichandrikA ArO,avarO-s?

  Under the janyams of Haikambodhi, the following 3
  versions of Aro/Avro are listed for Ravichandrika:

  I also find one more Ravi Chandrika (perhaps a

  tnx. for that,sk.but am quite sure that ppl. these days don't sing RC acc. to the 2nd ArO,avarO in u'r list,i'm pretty positive there's no Pa.that's(Pa) the striking diff. betn this rAgam and nAttaikurinji.(but of course the prayOgam with Pa in nAttaikurinji IS diff.,but still...)

  Regarding the song "oru naal oru kanavu" from "friends"...can someone throw light on the raga used. Also, "Thendral varum vazhiyai" of the same film seems to be Bahudhari/Harikhambhodhi based. Any thoughts?

  Reg. Nalanthaana song, the closing lines though have traces of Kiravani MD KVM, as far as I know,
  other than for songs in mythological movies, did not have much penchant for raga-based tunes. The entire thing about that song so is purely accidental. My prog. went on well yesterday and I sang some of SSRajendran songs. About me, later.This Varai en thozhi is again Sindhu bhairavi-want me to go back to MSV-SB attachment.Reg. aroh-avaroh of ragas I would suggest you all look into RAGANIDHI written by Sangita Kalanidhi W.Subba rao, a music academy publication-but no comparison of aroh-avaroh to fim music please.

  Vel,tenral vandu... seems to be mostly ShankarAbharaNam with the exception of a slight Da1 in the charaNams.The 1st few lines of the charaNms sound a li'l like Gambheera nAttai due to G-M-P-N usage.But I do hear a Ri though...

  I am not one who is familiar with CM. I was just trying to
  get the notes for vArAy en thOzhi using my
  key board. The song seemed to use the notes of
  the Natabairavi scale. I didn't see ay R1
  occuring in the song. But I could be wrong.
  
  By the way, can you say why Sindhu Bairavi is
  listed as a janyam of Natakapriya (Melam 10)
  while it seems to be closer (in terms of the
  notes used) to Natabairavi (Melam 20)?

  a) Pa Dha2 Ni2 Sa - Aarohanam
  
  b) Ni2 Pa Ma1 - Avarohanam
  
  c) sa ga3 Ma1

  R.S.Balaji - It starts in kaambodhi. second could be kaapi(though may not be strictly since we have the ga ma ri sa prayogam of kaanada coming nt he lower swaras). Now that is kind of a revealation since I was of the opinion that IR has never composed in kaambodhi.

  after the first charanam the songs goes to samudrapriya I guess(in the lines "aavedhana oka aaraadhanaa")....Pallavi reminds me of "Shankarabaram" song "Omkaara Naadhanu"(that is shankarabaran based rite?)...experts clarfy:-)

  I have been playing around with this song for hours together and find that it is either harikambhoji dealt with in a non-traditional way or it is a mixture of some janyas of harikambhoji...there are well marked patterns that are indicative of some raga....i wonder what it is.....anyways.

  is the song aen mana vaanil siragai virkkum FROM Kaasi has any shades of hindoLam, coz, as usual, im mixing this song with naan thaedu sevvandhi poovidhu OF Dharmapathini. After singing the pallavi of aen manavaanil i could go to aNNaththai aendhan viral thodumo of naan thaedum. Hence experts please clarify whether it is AS USUAL my manabrandhi or atleast this time i have a point :-)
