Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

Song of the Day: aavaaram poovu from achchamillai^2.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/aavaram.rm
- A great song by V.S.Narasimhan. Sung by SPB/PS. I like the haunting voice of PS in this song. The prelude and PS' humming is also good.
- Thread on VSN: http://www.newtfmpage.com/forum/29868.16.16.40.html
- VSN/K.Balachandar combo did well in two movies, achchamillai achchamillai, and kalyaaNa agathigaL (manadhukkuL utkaarndhu).

bb- thanks for this class song.
The song was filmed very well too. The locales were stunning. PS's humming, (in the opening and ending) as you have stated is simply out of the world. SPB is great as usual- (listen to the lines 'Un kannu rendum thudikkudhadi')
Th other songs in the film were also good-'Puthiru poda poraalaam'-MV,SJ, 'Odukira thanniyile'-MV,PS and 'Karisal tharisu'-VJ.
Interesting to note KB's MDs- only V Kumar at first, then V Kumar and MSV for alternate films, (with KVM for 'Ethiroli' alone), then MSV alone for some years (with Vijayabhaskar for 'Thappu thaalangal' alone). After 'Poikkaal Kuthirai'-1983, he dropped MSV, and introduced VSN in AA-1984 and continued with him for Kalyana Agathigal-1985. From 'Sindhu Bhairavi' (same 1985), he held on to IR till 'Pudhu Pudhu Arthangal'-1989.
In 1990, he made an off-beat, no-song film with two separate stories- Oru Veedu Iru Vaasal- for which the BGM was by VSN (incidentally, the famous violinist brothers Ganesh and Kumaresh acted in this film, and there were some great violin bits). 1n 1991, KB brought Maragathamani in 'Azhagan', continued with him for 'Vaaname Ellai'-1992 and 'Jaathimalli'-1993. Switched over to ARR in 1994 for Duet, Deva in 1996 for Kalki and ARR again for 'Paarthaale Paravasam'-2001.
Also interesting to note that all MDs have used PS for Saritha, though PS's career was already on the wane by the time Saritha appeared. Examples:S-G: Poomugam sivakka- Amma, MSV: Kannana poo magane- Theneer thaneer, Adiye Kannamma- Agnisatchi, Kan kanda deivame- Keezhvanam Sivakkum, Indha malligaipoovuku- Kootu puzhukkal.
VS Narasimhan: Aavaram poovu and Odukira thanniyile- Achamilla Achamillai, Manasukkul utkaarndhu and Kaanal alaigaliley etc- Kalyana Agathigal, Gangai Amaran: Maadapuravo- Imaigal, KVM: Unnai nambi uchiyile-Melmaruvathoor Aadhiparasakthi, Illayaraja: Mapillaikku maman manasu- Netrikkan, V Kumar: Aduthathu Sengamalam- Shankari, T Rajendar-Pullanga peyarilathaan-Uravai kaatha Kili.

although i would expect that Saritha's voice was shrill enough and closer to SJ's than PS'.

Song of the Day: uyirE unakkaaga from uyirE unakkaaga.

- I don't know much about this song. MD: Laxmikanth-Pyarelal. SPB has sung wonderfully in this song. Must be the title number, flows freely, like nalam vaazha. The more famous song in this movie is "panneeril nanaindhap pookkaL".

Song of the Day: A bunch of BGMs from NizhalgaL.
I was watching NizhalgaL again last week, and recorded some of the BGM bits. Very interesting pieces, IR has freaked out in these.
1. http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/niz1.rm
The title piece. Starts off with a melodious piece (students graduating), then a haunting flute bit, and then a freewheeling fast number. Cuts back to children crying "pasikkudhammaa", then a few small pieces showing various slices of life, and ending with chorus shouting "we want job job".
2. http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/niz2.rm
A small piece where rohini mistakes nizhalgaL ravi's gestures to the tea shop kid.
3. http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/niz3.rm
Rajasekar draws a picture of a homeless man. No one in his family appreciates it, and he is heartbroken and angry. That is the first part of this piece. Then, rohini picks it up and looks at it. That is the second part, with soft music of a single flute.
4. http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/niz4.rm
Chaaruhaasan plays the veeNai (raagam thOdi). Rajasekar listens to this piece standing on the street.
5. http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/niz5.rm
Ravi falls in love with rohini after their first meeting. Lively humming by IR with a harmonium(chandrasekar in the film). Must have been like this when IR was composing or playing his tunes in his early stages.
I will post some more from the movie tomorrow. Please let me know if you find listening to such pieces interesting.

for a change, BGMs as "song of the day"... good one to be appreciated... how about having a separate category "BGM of the day" in addition to "Song of the day"? :-)

bb,

Guys..
can anyone tell where exactly the song "Doorathil naan kanda" was placed in the movie(I know it was not in the movie later)?what situtation?

i could not still realize why this movie flopped despite being the most talked about at that time mostly because of the 3 landmark songs - i think the competition was moodupani and varumayin niram sigappu. i saw nizhalgal and i liked it, but the over reactive edning perhaps spoiled the chances of the movie. chandrasekar was great. anyidea where he is these days?

chandrasekar stood in the last elections as a dmk candidate and lost, I guess.
i don't think nizhalgaL flopped because of varumaiyin niram sigappu, since that flopped too.
peeps, when dhooraththil naan kaNda was put up in SOTD, geeth wrote this:
i remember seeing this song 'Dhoorathil..' on the first day matinee show of Nizhalgall. i liked the movie very much and when i went for a second time a week later this song was chopped off. the picturisation was not bad. this song was on the second heroine 'savitha (or sabitha)' who plays the role of charuhaasan's daughter. the song comes when she is feeling lonely after her father's death and when she knows that her father desired to teach Rajashekar (prabhu, in the movie) but passed away just before his first class. maybe she thinks that she will not be able to see him ever again and the song starts as a dream song. it was choregraphed (very slow movements) with her wearing a saffron saree, a sort of meera style. i think in the movie the song ended with the line 'Dhinam azhaithen prabhu unaiye..' but in the song it continues after a pause and then very slowly. one of the best for SJ.
