Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.

That was an wonderful analysis of a great song. Raja has created a lot of such artistic songs, and we are gifted to listen to his songs.

Song of the Day: peN maanE sangeetham from naan sigappu manithan.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/penmaane.rm
- A decent duet by SPB/SJ. MD: IR. Lyrics: Ponnadiyaan (?)
- I like the interludes of the song, the way the charanams reach lower octaves, the way SJ sings "kaiyarugil poo maalai kaalgaLil gOpuram"..
- Raagam shankarabharanam (?)

One of my all time favs. (enna bb, verum decent-nu sollitta? :). I was told it is in Maand. Can anyone verify that? I really like the end of the saranam, SPB pinni iruppaan -
'en kaathal vaanilE veN mEga oorvalam

ravi, glad you liked it. glad you are posting again :-) I wanted to mention the end of the charanam too. SPB does a great job in it. the lyrics is also quite good.

bb, the phrase where SJ sings in lower octaves "kaalgalil gopuram" is reminiscent of "nee dhaan sendhaamarai" from "Thene thenpandi meene" song (Udhaya geetham). IR, I think uses this scale for sort of lullaby/soothing songs. Pachca mala poovu belongs to this category too.

bb- belated thanks. 'Pen maane' is more than just a decent duet! The hummimg in the opening and in the interludes are very good too.
Thanks for 'Yedho Mogam' too. What a song! SJ kalakkittaanga! Thanks, especially for that detailed and scholarly analysis by RJay.
MS- It was the song which was forgettable, and not Sivaranjini!! Podhuma?:-))

Song of the Day: udaiyOdu pirakkavillai from nammavar.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/udai.rm
I was feeling sad the whole day, thinking about Mahesh and his long battle with cancer. I've always felt that he didn't get his due while lesser talented folks made it big. I attended one of his shows a few years back. He was making a comeback with P.C.Sriram's vaanam vasappadum, but that was not to be.
Poonkuyil paadinaal was featured in SOTD earlier, so, I've put up "udaiyOdu pirakkavillai". Sung by SPB and Sujatha. A nice romantic song, it was cut short in the film.
udaiyOdu pirakkavillai
uNarvOdu pirandhuvittOm
nam vaazhvin thEvaiyai
vaazhndhup pOga vandhOm.
A couple of years back, we featured Mahesh's songs in the Picks of the Month, here: http://www.newtfmpage.com/pom/pom_090800.html

bb- you have given a befitting, touching tribute.
The lines of this song too are aptly philosophical. Isn't it a sad irony that in the film too Kamal battles with a fatal illness?

Just last night I was thinking about this song and mentioned it in the Mahesh thread. It's a very interesting composition which kind of got lost in the movie, except for a short piece. Thanks bb. Great song! Unusual structure and arrangement.
Mahesh will be missed. Wonder if he already composed for 'VAnam vasappadum' or was he just signed up for it recently?

Song of the Day: ThaththaLikkudhE from Album.

- Heard this song in oli yesterday and liked it. I am a big fan of peppy numbers by Karthik Raja. He has given some good fast-paced, folkish songs like
Raakkamma Raakkamma - Manickam
Kaasu mEla kaasu & laila laila - kaadhala kaadhala
muththE muththamma - ullasam
hello mr.kaadhalaa - naam iruvar namakku iruvar.
- Sung by Sadhana Sargam, Tippu & Karthik.

Peter Pan wrote:
A good chorus song. It has interesting interludes, foot-tapping with decent lyrics (thank God there are no Tanglish kind of cheap lyrics here). Combination of Kapi (Pilu), KedAram.. If not for some parts of the orchestration which use modern sounds, it could easily pass off as a song from the old Tamil classic, ‘Guleba kAvali’ or ‘Thookki Thookki’! That is a compliment!

sooper song bb. I like this peppy number too.

The problem with today's lyricists: The lyrics has the word "veerapandi kOttai". But the long vee(nedil) does not fit the tune and hence it is sung as virapAndi kOttai. Really absurd. But the song itself is quite interesting.
