Guys, you got a good thing going. Lets relax and have some fun. Cant resist putting in something. Here's my contribution.
IRF vs ARF
------------------
AR Fan (ARF) : Raja is useless. He uses the same tabla again and again.
IR Fan (IRF) : No, no. You are mistaken. Every week IR changes the tabla.
ARF : I mean he always uses the same tabla sound.
IRF : When you play tabla, you get tabla sound. What did you expect. Veena sound from tabla?
ARF : ARR eradicated tabla from TFM.
IRF : But "Maya Machindra" had tabla.
ARF : You are mistaken. They were actually drums but due to his superior technical knowledge ARR made them sound like tabla.
ARF : Raja sings a lot. Why has he to do this?
IRF : It is because many people want him to sing.
ARF : Who are these many people?
IRF : (Starts counting) Karthik Raja, Bhavatharani,YSR, hmmm. OK maybe not many people but atleast some people.
ARF : But why should he enforce himself on listeners.
IRF : No one can sing certain songs with the same feeling that he can. For example, can anyone sing "En Kural Enakku Pidikkum" like he does?.
IRF : You need not comment on Raja's singing. What about ARR's singing?
ARF : Raja does not know the latest technology..
IRF : (Angrily) What has this got to do with technology.
ARF : Cool it buddy. Let me explain. ARR uses technology to distort all voices. Take the case of KJY in "O Bawre" or SPB in "Thanga Thamarai". Do they sound the same. ARR ensure that they dont sound anywhere near as good as they are. He also makes people like Suresh Peters sing Tamil as if it was English and Udit Narayan sing as if it was Hindi. So when ARR sings Tamil as if it is Swahili no one notices. Even Mustafa, Mustafa becomes a profound philosophical statement.
IRF : (Head bowed) Yes... I guess I have to agree.
ARF : ARR has now reached the top. He has displaced IR.
IRF : No way. This is just a conspiracy. All big directors, producers, TV people and people in general are involved in this.
ARF : What rubbish !!
IRF : It is true. Yesterday I asked my roommate to listen to the latest IR song sung by IR himself which had lyrics written by IR himself. It was for a Ramarajan and RajKiran starrer called, "Aatha Aatha Aatha". My friend just would listen to the song "Aatha, Enna Petha Aatha". He infact left the room, though I had tied his feet !!! Goes to prove that a great conspiracy which affects even common people exists to dethrone Raja.
ARF : (Faints)
IRF: (After sprinkling some water on ARF) : Well one last question. Why does ARR lift so much music? He takes pieces from here and there and fits it into his songs.
ARF : (Angrily) ARR never copies. He is 123% original. If you talk about ARR copying then I will have to tell about IR copies, MSV copies, KVM copies. In fact I can prove that Bach, Beethoven, Mozart everybody copied.
IRF : But the "Kuluvalile" song has so much from "Sister Act"?
ARF : That is what is called inspiration. In a moment of inspiration he lifted and used it. You cant call that copying.
IRF : (Puzzled) But the beat of "Humma Humma" seems to be from Dr.Alban ...
ARF : That is where you are mistaken. They are inspirations not copies. They may sound same but they are not.
IRF : (More puzzled) I dont understand.
ARF : It is simple. It was an original ARR beat. Though for full 3 minutes it may sound like the Dr.Alban beat, ARR composed the whole thing himself. It is just a coincidence that lot of his beats sound so much like Ace on Base or Dr. Alban. It is a greater coincidence that he thinks of these beats after the other have already thought of it. So you guys are confused. You dont understand the difference between originality, inspiration, copying and coincidence. Other like Deva copy but ARR only gets inspired.
IRF : (Now it is his turn to faint)
(Will try to do DF (Deva Fan) vs ARF and IRF vs DF some other time)

You IR ARR Deva fans.
What do you think about Vidyasagar ? He's a great composer. May be he is inspired by IR and ARR, but he is unique.
And... listen his malayalam numbers. It's quite melodious.

IRF1:
Friends, let's logically examine the reason for IR's decline in the recent years. We all know that IR helped everyone in the industry and the industry itself. After his advent to the industry, not only did the sales of cassettes go up but also those of cassette players, cassette head cleaners, cassette head cleaning fluids and other music accessories, all without an ounce of marketing.
He helped the small guys get bigger and the big guys get even bigger. Even useless directors' and stars' movies hit the hundred-day mark because of IR's music. And now, the same directors, producers and stars who owe their innate talents, skills, success, lives, hearts, souls, everything to IR turn their backs on IR and are planning to bury him! What an ungrateful world this is!!
IR, don't worry! You and your music rule eternal in our hearts!!
All other IR Fans:
IRF1, we all know IR never was, but still is. But, your analysis explaining why he was is very logical and accurate. Keep up the good work.
Moderate Fan 1:
ennanga idhu aacharyamaa irukku? naanum IR fan-thaan, aanaal ellaamae IR-aalae solradhu konjam adhigam, illaya? industry-ilae IR-ai thavira yaarukkum thiramai illaiyaa? uzhaippu illaiyaa?
marketing-ae illaamal sales eppadinga appadi maelae pogum? IR-um avaru kaalathula evvalavu marketing panna mudiyumoa avvalavu panninavaruthaanae? cut-out ellaam vachavarthaanae?!
IRF 2:
IR never was responsible for that marketing including the cut-outs: he has never been interested in promoting his music or himself. Those were done by rich businessmen who were his ardent fans, and wanted to show their devotion to his music by promoting his music.
At least IR had some music to be marketed, unlike the "whizkid" who seems to be an MD as in a Marketing Director rather than as in a Music Director. idhu eppadi irukku? :-)
ARRF 1:
IRF2, may be if IR was into Marketing too, we could have seen his symphony in the market last year? Heh, heh, heh! :-)))))
IRF3:
ARRF1, that was an uncalled-for comment. Our IR is a perfectionist and is just putting the final finishing touches to his symphony.
Plus, these major international audio Companies still have not understood the power of our IR's music. Sigh! :-(((
IRF4:
thamizhanAgap piRandhu, isaiyil thamizh maN vAsanaikkE thannai arppaNiththArE avarai eppadi aiyaa ulagam purindhu koLLum? ellAm kAlam seiginRa kOlam! :(((
ARRF1:
naethu raathri yammmmaa is a manvaasanai song? That's a new learning, indeed.
Deva Fan1:
Hi, I'm new to DF and I'm a Deva fan. I read in a recent issue of Kungumam that Deva is coming out with a symphony too, we just don't know when.
IRF5:
Deva Fan 1, I know when......2 months after our IR releases his symphony! :-)))))))))))))))
Digression: Are you really a fan of Deva, and in DF at that? God, now I've seen and heard everything!
Deva Fan 1:
IRF5, I AM a fan of Deva. Why are you so surprised? Deva gives decent music, it's pleasant and listenable. Who cares, yaar, if he copies or lifts or gets inspired as long we enjoy the final piece?
IRF6:
I can't believe this crass, commercial, lowest-common denominator approach to art. It speaks volumes about our diluted standards, corrupted culture and eroded morals to the core, and willingness to accept anything without discrimination today. No wonder we get to see the likes of ARR and Deva getting around. Music is sacred--there is more to it than just being "listenable", surely?
ARRF1:
When did ARR become the lowest common denominator? And, why is he getting drawn into this discussion, I'd like to know?
IRF7:
Because he is there, buddy! :-)) ARR is not the least common denominator, it's just that the same rhythm loop is the most common denominator in all of his music. :-)))))
ARRF1:
I really have to object to the turn this discussion is taking. You guys don't have a clue as to ARR's creativity, innovation and impact on TFM, you are all wearing blinders. Isn't there any other ARR fan in this Forum to help me out? I feel like that elephant Gajendra who called out to Krishna for help :((
IRF7:
Oh, talking of Krishna, I think our IR is the last Avatar.
IRF8:
I'm an IR fan too, but an Avatar?! Oh, my Gawd!
Moderate Fan 2:
Hey, how about NTRama Rao who replaced even the real avatars? :-))
And, the fun goes on........

You don't know what a great service you've done for music of IR's kind (or quality, if you prefer). I couldn't have expressed it better. Just-For-Fun, you mirrored my exact sentiments in a couple of places, unwittingly though ! Thanks :-)))

It was done with wit (hopefully), but not unwittingly! All of us here are IR fans after a fashion, of course, it's just that our degrees of involvement and styles of expressions vary. Glad you're having fun too! :-)))

How many of you people still keep listening to music composed by ARR about 3 years ago. Strictly speaking, I don't. For example, 'uzhavan', 'kizhakku cheemayile', pudhiya mugam, gentleman were all hits when they got released. But 3-5 years from then, people have almost forgotten these songs... now people are caught with the 'jeans' fever... what next?
On the other hand, I still keep listening to music composed by IR about 15-20 years ago... for instance like '16 vayadhinile..', 'priya', 'alaigal oivadhillai' etc.. I am sure I would be listening to these songs of IR even after the next 30 years (if iam still alive).
MORAL:
1. ARR's songs lack the kind of life span and depth like IR used to do during his peak time (70's and 80's).
2. ARR is after quick-big money while IR used to be after quality as well as quantity music.
3. When IR was growing fast in the late 70's into a great MD, he used to just churn out music - like 4-5 movies in one month... Today ARR makes one movie in 5 months... and people are forced to keep on listening to his latest one until the next one comes out after 4-5 months... Paavam janangal..!
So, you decide... who is "REALLY" great???
