6 Songs : Mind Blowing!!

Simply mind-blowing
November 20
Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi can’t stop raving about the songs of Mani Ratnam’s Yuva. “A.R. Rahman and Mani Sir and dynamite together,” says Vivek on the sets of Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria’s Masti, and adds, “The six songs Rahman has recorded for the film are mind-blowing.”
Ajay Devgan, his co-star in Yuva and Masti, uses the same words to describe them. Incidentally, when the film was launched earlier this year, Mani Ratnam had decided not to have a single song in it.
Vivek also feels that Abhishek Bachchan’s is the best role and best performance in the film. “That guy’s career will take off in a big way after Yuva,” predicts Vivek.

yes thats horrible.
But we can't blame them, when Thirumalai becomes a hit down south.
Ithellam kalacharam mathamudiyathu and we can't force them to listen to something fresh and new, when they are really happy with Jatin lalit and anu malik.
But i think ARR has already broken the barrier.
just check out boxoffice india.
Lakheer sold 14 lakh cassettes, that is not any subash ghai movie.
ARR doesnt need a backbone like Shahrukh most of the times.

One 2 ka 4 flopped big time.
Both the audio and the movie, neither ARR nor SRK could do anything.

first of all get ur fact rite, curses mumbai is not N.indian territory.....it is west......N.india is hindi-heartland of UP,Bihar,MP,Rajasthan and delhi....so N.indian taste is diff. from mumbaiyya taste towards music.....even commercially west is diff. from north.....
my personal observation after travelling in local trains,auto-rickshaws,hangout spots, listening to FM radio is that YUVA is on a slide.....itstarted off very well but is going down.....even "chinnama chilakamma" is doing better...

Sharad,
Which Surya?????!!! :-)
Kaakha Kaakha Surya?? SJ Surya??
SJ Surya talked MOSTLY about NEW music.
I don't think I saw Surya speaking in Vijay TV. Vairamuthu, Madhavan, Sidharth, Trisha and Ravi K.Chandran are the people whom I saw talking about Aayidha Ezhuththu. Surya seemed to be missing. Dhanya watched the full pgm I guess, she would know better.
Maddy,
I think by N.India curses meant Mumbai too. So he was commenting about the taste of Mumbai people as well! :-)
Neways, we'll wait for him to say what he actually meant. Pullai college-la busy-a edhaavadhu senjuttu irukkum indha time-la!

Guest Blog - Anand Chandrasekharan
Anand Chandrasekharan, my friend who co-founded Aeroprise, is also involved with an effort called Deeshaa that is focused on transforming the rural India. He is now in India. Listening to Aayitha Ezhuthu music, he was impressed and wanted to write a note on Vairamuthu's genius in Aayitha Ezhuthu. Here it is. You can contact him at write2ak[at]stanford[dot]edu. Thanks Anand and I wish you to write many more such brilliant observations here.
Vairamuthu's magAKK!
Multi-lingual movies, with their other challenges also bring with them the undeniable challenge of songwriting. With Rahman and other music directors making waves in multiple languages, one can't help but compare the quality of lyrics in the hindi and the tamil versions of the same film.
Why this rant? Because of Mani Ratnam's Yuva/Aayitha Ezhithu music release. Among other lyrical masterpieces by Vairamuthu, one line that stands out is "Kann Thondri Kann Kaana Kanneero" (Is this a tear that is out, yet unseen?) in the song Hey, Goodbye Nanba!
The movie itself is about identity. The letter AKK, which in Tamil can only be used in conjunction with another letter to convey any meaning; the three lead characters, who all come with different ideals and then learn from the other perspectives to define their own identity. Vairamuthu captures the essense of this dilemma concisely (in only 3 words) and yet leaves the listener with so many questions - Is the tear there? Is it gone? Is the sorrow still left after the tear is gone? Much as one hopes Aayitha Ezhuthu will leave the audience wondering about the identity of today's youth.
One can't help but sigh at the genius of Vairamuthu (not that that needed any mention), and at the same time compare it with the bland "Begana Begana" in the Hindi Version of the same song.

I think that the lyrical quality in Tamil is much much higher than the Hindi version for this movie.

yuva is no match for Aytha ezhuthu lyrics wise.......i think mehboob was given a rough deal to trnslate tamil lyrics into hindi......one of the main reasons y it is not no.1 in hindi countdowns.......

It seems muslim groups opposed to the noor un ala song in meenaxi because of the lyrics. So M. F. Hussain is withdrawing the film from all the theatres in the entire country.
Sad news indeed.

"red green and blue when mixed create white.white a color of peace...could mani be implying peace with this movie?"

Meenaxi has been withdrawn......though it opened with 75% collections, and slipped to 60% in 2nd week, the movie was a relief for ppl. who want to watch good movies.... ARR's score in this movie stands as insignificant as Lara's 400 n.o cos both of them have come in an (with)drawn course......wat ARR needs is "balaji's 4 wickets" sort of score to get a hit....

im happy that meenaxi is out of the theatres, mf hussain needs this treatment.
he painted Saraswati nude, if he expose artistic beauty then he shouldnt hurt other religions.
Let him paint his daughter in law nude, afterall Art has to be liberal as he says.
