SPB the greatest singer that India had ever produced

  raghu, mentioning octaves, now it is the computer software that is manipulating the finer curves than the artists...comparing to this, SPB at the time of no-computer age, reigned the perfection we could say..

  Your taste and liking of SPB makes it evident your knowledge and standard on traditional Music. I also pity you to be in a dumb state of ignorance for comparing great stalwarts like KJY and Rafi with donkeys like SPB. He might have sang some songs which may please people like you, but majority of people who had brains would accept that he can never stand beside KJY & Ghantasala. Just getting awards from Govt and other institutes do not make him a singer, he has to really prove it. Let him sing songs like "SivaSankari" which our great master Ghantasalagaru has sung. It needs the classical base and deep training in traditional music. Just by singing some songs like in "Shankarabharanam" do not make him great. Come to senses and live in this world. He is surviving only because of audience like you are existing on this earth.

  SPB's telugu songs are the worst excrescence on earth. How could anybody with even a grain of musical sense listen to such songs? KJY sang about 150 songs in Telugu. Out of this at least 50 songs are beyond compare. Listen to the songs in KumkumaTilakam and Meghasandesham, for instance. Can anybody list atleast 50 songs which have such class and classical resonance? Is there a song among the thousands sung by SPB in Telugu, which can stand upto "Akasha deshana, Ashada Maasana" of KJY in meghasandesham? Don't bring in those songs from Sankarabharanam.. those songs are already dead to us now, killed by SPB's uninspired rendering (listen to it now, removed in time from the hype). Imagine what would have been if they were sung by KJY? ..would have been heavenly. This talk about SPB being versatile ect.. is bunkum. I cannot imagine anything more stereotype than the way SPB emote in everyone of his songs.
  SPB has a very strong easily pleased fan-base, people who like those ugly, fast, stereotype music. agreed. But please don't compare KJY with SPB. Both are different types, appealing to different tastes.Remember, KJY is a Classical?Play-back singer. That is versatality for me.

  One last argument on Dr.KJY..
  
  Dr.KJY - He is the undisputed king of Malayalam film music where no Indian singer (non-Malayalees) is able even to peep at!. He has the most melodious voice, and an extreme bass. He was able to blend classical and film music with ease! - probably Rafi also did this with Ghazals and Quawalis!.
  
  Dr.SPB can be accepted as the No.1 in Tamil.I am not sure about Telugu as there are different opinions(in the post above). Anyway, one should not forget that Dr.KJY has sung in all the Indian languages except in Kashmiri and Assamese!. Rafi (he hasn't sung!) or SPB were not able to make a single hit in Malayalam!. (Can you say the same about Dr.KJY in tamil??). Dr.KJY has been appreciated in almost all the Indian languages, so he only is suited for the title "BEST INDIAN SINGER". He is the only singer who has done maximum justice (may not be 100%) to redition, because he has learnt Sanskrit. I have listened to SPB's Mallu songs (in fact there are less than 10/20)..not good in rendition.
  
  Dr.KJY has sung many mindblowing songs in Hindi. Dr.SPB's hindi songs are popular (common man's) songs and popular songs are not the best always!
  I have heard many people singing SPB's hindi(not Tamil) songs with ease..while KJY's hindi songs -- no way!. I have heard that (not my opinion) Latha Mangeshaker tried to stop him but she couldn't. Infact real Talents can't be stopped.
  
  You'll realize this once you listen to hindi songs of KJY from the films Chitchor, Chasm-e-Budhoor, Alaap, Anand Mahal, Anand Ashram...(I can't list down all!).
  
  KJY's bass is the greatest among all the singers. I can prove this.. Please listen to the belowmentioned songs and compare with the SPB songs (probably from Shankarabharanam) or use a frequency spectrum analyser to check out. ( I know that nobody is going to listen to this, but continue arguing) - (please dont compare KJY's "Kannai kalaimane" and SPB's "Shankara"). Use KJY's MALLU songs (below) and then do it.

  2. Manase neeyonnu paadoo..
  
  3. Pramadavanam..(His highness abdulla)
  
  4. Devadundubhi..(Ennennum Kannetante)
  
  5. Ezhisai geetame..
  
  I am sure SPB or RAFI will never reach this base.
  
  I agree that SPB has sung 40000 songs, but quality, not the quantity matters. I know that many of them are Dabbakoothu songs with no core value in it. ( I don't say that those songs are bad, but not worth mentioning here..). But, still he has a large collecttion of good songs. But almost all of the 20000 songs of KJY are gems. Rafi has sung only 5000 songs.
  
  I should rate them like this way.
  
  1. KJY - Excellent at Base, Middle and Higher octaves.
  
  2. SPB - Middle and Higher Octaves (SPB seems roaring at very high octaves)
  
  3. RAFI - Middle and very high octaves.
  
  ( The sweetness of male voice is revealed at lower and middle octaves whereas the sweetness of female voice is revealed at mid and high octaves).

  I feel that Dr.BMK wouldn't have made such comment about Dr.SPB. SPB has done very few classical concerts. In knowledge of classical music, Dr.BMK may stand slightly above KJY, but singing depends stronly on the ALAPANA STYLE, where Dr.KJY is unmatched!. Ignorants of classical music have started listening to it solely beacuse of his divine voice and alaapana!

  Nobody has born before..has born now..or will evolve in future to match Dr.KJY..Because his voice is the one with GOD'S signature on it!
  
  This comment was posted after having a glance through the bunch of remarks to establish Dr.SPB as excellent in all fiels of music.   It is not correct to say that SPB has sung only 10/20 songs in Malayalam. He has sung about 150 songs (this is true). But these were mostly for Telugu/Kannada movies dubbed in malayalam in the 80's. The songs sank without a whimper, meekly. But I heard there are two excellent SPB songs in Malayalam, though, viz.,
  1. Chiri kondu moodum mauna dukkangal chilarude sampadyam..
  2. Eee kadalum maarukadalum kadannu..
  Don't know which movie, whether the lyrics are correct etc..
  Still my comment above stands...

  The said lack of originality cannot be blamed on SPB/other SPB fans. yet,there are some who are happy with "charvitacharvanam", though.
