comiscan,
BTW what is love song?
and that too which a fast?
Hai raba goes in a normal pace.
Sundari sundari is like some group song that can be used for any theme.
thillana thilla is just a dance song, if you change the lyric it can be used for any theme.
O bhavuren, katre en vasal .. normal pace (you are confusing with high pitch I think).
Sutti sutti - normal pace infact slow.
Minsara kanna??? come on dont joke. The is no love in even lyric.
only one I would like is Tu hi Tu..
Iam not against your posting but, I think you lost the point on which is fast, and what is a love song!.

CF...
u r right..the songs in Kabhi na Kabhi didn't get the merit they deserved...
KK
I think I've already explained my point of view in one of the postings above :
"maybe directors give ARR a situation where they want a dance-duet or an extremely passionate slow song....this is the dance generation remember...this was also mentioned in the editorial of Revolution - a music mag...this is the trend globally, dance is in. I see 1-yr olds and 2 yr olds..they want the TV sets/audio system on and they want to tap their feet and move...just look around u..."

Cosmician..do you mean melody is only for the grown ups :) And that people who listen to those dance numbers haven't grown past their 1 or 2 yrs old mental age ?
Maybe you are right :) :)

listen to the foll folk based fast duets-
andha nilavatthan, maanguyile, madhura marikkozhundhu, injhi iduppazhagaa, naan erikkarai(chinnathayee-superb song),kovil mani, maniye manikkuyile
foll pop fast duets-
vaa vaa kanna vaa, adi vaanmadhi, iru vizhiyin vazhiye, oh vasantha raaja, vaa vaa anbe anbe(Agni N), enadhu vizhi vazhi mele
heavily wcm orchestrated fast duets-
poonkadhave, poomalaiya, naan thedum, andhi mazhai, edho moham
classically oriented fast no-
then aruviyil nanaindhidum, indraikku en indha,
nee oru kadhal sangeedham
AND the slow ones:
kannan oru, oru naal, ore naal, paruvame,
nee partha parvaikkoru nanri.
more on this later.
sorry for the heavily IR oriented list-there are so many of my favorite MSV and KVM songs-you would not have space to type them out all.
cosmician,
thanks for mentioning tu hi tu-it was the first time i have listened to that song-quite pleasant-and it had me humming pudhu vellai mazhai for the rest of the day!
the foll fast duets by ARR have something in common-it also tells u why he is not able to do more of them-guess why?
velli malare, kadhal kadidham, doli doli, dhandiya attamum, kurukku chiruthavale( how come all of you forgot this song? )

I assume trend and CF are in their mid 20's(that is a bit striking-I am yet to meet someone who is in their 30's and a ARR fan!)
If you were slightly older and were in India watching the foll movies during their first run then will you remember the foll songs?( by the way I am not in my fifties or 60's-I am 34)
the scene in darling DD-when Purnima reveals her love for bagyaraj and the No Azhagiya vizhigalil-comes on...(1982)
when murali and revathy fall in love and that fall in love and that fantastic duet poomalaiye starts-Pagal nilavu-84
Suresh and revathy fall in love-Unnai naan sandhithen-song is unnai kaanum neram-massively orchestarted song -84.
Two fast nos for kamal and madhavi-andhi mazhai and poo malarndhida-81 and 82
kamal has just finished with gauthami and he is back to revathy looking glum-comes the fast no Inji iduppazhagaa...to cheer him up-93
kamal gets married to saranya and brings her home for the first time -to the accompaniment of Nee oru kadhal sangeedham(87)
you would have been too young to remember the atmosphere in the theatre when such fast love duets come on-it was amazing!everyone shifting in their chairs and really got ready for a 'feel good'song.
another song is by IR-it was a big hit during that deepavali from padikkadhavan-sodikkiliyinge sollu sollu-it starts as a classy no-everyone expects a slow no-when an amazing transforamtion takes place in the beat and rajini comes singing 'Adi atha maga rathiname ' and the entire theatre went into raptures..
i am sure you would have seen all these songs-either when you were too young to care for intricacies of these songs or recently abroad on a old video tape-you just cannot relive those moments!
I consider you too young for even these nos-hence i have not mentioned nos from MSV like pachai kili,
oru raaja, raajavin paarvai(on whom my dad goes nuts..)
more on ARR and cause for absence of such nos nowadays..

and listen to the slow nos-
vennilave, mel isaiye, narumugaiye, nenje nenje, chandiranai , en mel, chithirai nilavu, uyire, pudhu vellai mazhai, july madham, swasame, theendai, naalai indha ulagam, suthi suthi-i am running out of space..(Y...awn)
there is nothing in making a dance no sound fast-they HAVE to be fast-IR broke this rule-there is only one slow dance no as far as I know.guess which one? mella mell ennai thottu from Vazhkkai

yaaro,
You are right about my age.I've got to hand it to you for predicting the mentality of people in different age-groups.
It's true I wasn't as much smitten(love) by these songs as you at that time.Sodi kilienge had an effect on me(even now I'm a big Rajni fan)
It could also be b'cos I was behaving according to my age. When I was watching some of these songs as a teenager my elder cousin enlightened me with the "bottleneck" principle.
Extending your theory, would it be true that people in their 30s would have missed MSV's unmatched gems with the effect of Sivaji and MGR.
"nos from MSV like pachai kili,
oru raaja, raajavin paarvai(on whom my dad goes nuts..)"
I want to know what you exactly felt about these songs in relation to the above songs.
"and listen to the slow nos-"
Let's take "vennilave"(I'm assuming MK).Some people even claim the effect of the song the theatre made the movie run for 100 days or whatever.I could go into some of the other songs too and brag about its niceties(whatever sense).

Make it 40's for MSV fans-my uncle is in his mid 40's and for him MSV is the ultimate. His son likes ARR.

do you want to know whether I like these songs or where these songs stand in comparision with IR nos?I like them, too.
by the way ,you have not refuted the fact that vennilave is a slow no.I never said it was not a popular number.what do you think is the fastest non dance duet by ARR?
did you reflect on the 4 nos i have mentioned , the common factor in those songs and why ARR is not doing more like them(which ,I am sure, he is perfectly capable of)
comment,
you are unique.I have to hand it to you!

yaaro,
I don't know how some of the songs can be classified as dance or non-dance.I'm not into dance culture.
In the songs you mentioned, only andhi mazhai and inji iduppazhagi are non-dance numbers and the reason I can think of is the actors didn't dance for that.
"fastest non dance duet by ARR?"
Judging by your standars I think all Prabhu-deva duets should be ruled out.
One song that comes to my mind is "Kaadhal kadidham" from Jodi.I haven't seen the picturisation so I don't know if Simran dances or not.

I am 27/m/ a small village near chengalpattu.
I don't totally agree with you. Tell me IR's fast numbers, the kind of song that you want to consider, after 1992 or 1996. Now-a-day melodies mean slow number and fast numbers a picturised with dances and shaky cinematography. You should have a directors with such an idea to get a chance to compose such a song.
Let me give you two more songs, which are n are fast numbers without dances. Of course, the are melodious.
1. Ruth aagayi re ---1947 earth (not a duet)
2. mehki mehki hai raahne -- Zubeida.(Duet)
These films had great directors in Deepa Mehta and Shyam Benegal.
The directors of these movies

Common friend,
TFM is not the whole world. Music has evolved through centuries and TFM is a small part of it. You can change definitions what is melody just by todays trend.
First of all there is nothing like a melody has to be slow. Also fast means tempo of the songs or number of notes per unit time. Not how heavy beats are used or how much scope is there for dance.
A fast love song would mean, a song having love as its theme, esp. conveying or sharing love, with some degree of intimacy and exclusiveness.
We cant call group dance songs as love songs (eg thillana thillana )
Its a recent misconception that a melodious song has to be slow and sung from deep throat or whispered in ears.
