Best of the rest

We have had n tending to impatience ( not infinity!) threads about IR & ARR. So let us talk primarily about the good output of other MDS.
For starters
1.adityan had a not so bad effort in " Oyila paadum paatu" & vettila potta shokkule". where is he now.
2.Thalai vasal had more than passable music by Ilaya barathi. where is he now.
3.Cheran paandiyan had half an excellent song by sowdaryan. The start of kaadal kaditham was very good but midway it jumps into familar zone.
4.rajan Nagendra recycled " Inti Inti ramayanam" in Veetukku veedu vaasapadi. the music for Iru Nilavugal is also good. where are they now?
5 aslam Musthafa had a great opening bit in" Kicchu kicchu pannuda ' . movie mitta mirasu. is he doing anything now.
6. Maragathamani aka MM Kreem aka Keeravani is also not heard these days. azhagan songs were quite good.
7 Amsaleka was ok in "selai kattum pennukk...'
8.Devenran was quite good in "Vedam Puthithu" But I think he got caught in the crossfire between IR & BR. They came together in Nadodi Thenral & we have not heard anything from devendran have we?
8 Narasimhan started with abang in achamillai2 but hten gradually fizzled out. Amir John gave him acouple of chances I suppose but that is about it barring a weak comeback in a Revathi movie.
Of course we can talk about Bharadwaj, Vidya SagarChirpi (if we have to!), Mani Sharma, et al.
Other one time wonders can also be read if not heard!

  thank goodness for your memory.while going through your above posting you have given my answer. I suppose Vaazthungal is the LVaithyanathan movie I was looking for which had the Poonthene chinna chinna kaal eduthu vaa.the year you mention also confirms that it should have been the B & W movie. Remember me asking in a couple of threads.
  But I think somebody corrected me in another thread s that Ninaipathu Nuiraiverum music was by MSV & only the song was by ML Sreekanth.
  I think the Jai Indo -Srilanka joint production was " (En )Rathathin Rathame" The promos used to occupy tamil sevai irandu those days. this movie was made in the wake of the thumping success of Jai's "Taxi driver" there.
  By the way was MSV the Md of the beautiful number" udathukallil unathu peyar ottikondathu "by PJ & VJ in Porter ponnuswamy. Or was it somebody else. the music is MSVish but the set up not.

  Reg Shanmugapriya it was made by chitramahal krishnamurthi who was earlier famous for his comedy movies like ungal viruppam & Halo partner. It starred Muthuraman & Jayanthi. Jayanthi is a Muruga devotee & Muthuraman an atheist . Cho plays Naradar who somehow manages to arrange a marriage between the two. Muthu wants an inter-caste marriage while Jayanthi is from the same caste. Cho suggests for one who does not believe in caste to reject Jayanthi on the basis of caste is foolish. similarly he convinces Jayanthi that to convert an atheist into afidel would be far better than her to marry a believer as it were. How Muthu sees the light forms the rest of the story. The treatment is quite amateurish but the effort is sincere. It also had a great TMS song at the end akin to the Maruthamalayaane duet ( of Thunaivan) Can you help me out on this please.

  1.Shanmugapriya, to my knowledge, was one of the 3 films in which Variyar acted, the other 2 being 'Thunaivan' and 'Deivam'.
  2. One Indo Lankan venture which perhaps never hit the screen was 'Kadhavai thattiya mohinip pey' with a beautiful song " Nadu Jaamaththil vandhene! Enaip paarththu aekkam aeno?", played on AIR for many months!
  3. The film with Sripriya and a Srilankan hero (the film was named 'Neelakkadalinile' or some such thing!)was shot extensively in some coir factory in Kerala (Alleppey??)
  4. There was one more popular Srilankan song those days: " Coattu potta modhalalikku kozhumbulathaane kalyanam, Kandiyila vaangi vandha pachcha gudhira oorkolam....etc.,"

  Vengayam, glad you found that elusive film- Btw, whom did 'Vaazhthungal' star?
  
  'Udhadugalil unathu peyar ottikkondathu, adhai uchcharikkum pothu nenjam thiththikkindrathu'- is definitely by MSV. Lyrics by Na Kamarasan, I think. It is from the film 'Thangarangan'-1978. The song featured Vijayakumar and Prameela. Perhaps you got confused with Porter Ponnuswami, as Thengai plays the title role in both Thangarangan and PP.
  
  Ninaipathu Niraiverum-MD definitely MLS.

  Vaazthungal i suppose starred Muthuraman, Jayachitra & Chanrakala. I am not sure though I believe the movie was in two parts each distinsct by itself but connected by Muthuraman. But as I said I cannot trust myself these days!

  Now I remember, Gamini Fonseka (actor) and Malini Fonseka (actress) were in two Tamil films mentioned earlier in this thread! (We do tend to mix up with Gamini Dissanayake, one of Srilanka's famous leaders! )

  how about siddhartha? he changed n number of names... arvind sidhartha...ilayagangai.. sidhartha, chanakya...and what not? he scored a couple of movies like "Vaa arugil vaa" and now content with scoring music for TV 'oppari' aka mega-serials..

  who is the MD for mazhalaippattaaLam? It was acted by vishnuvardhan(Kannada) as Hero and sumithra as heroine. It has one HIT song by SPB and others thaLLu model vandi idhu thaLLi vidunga aenna vela aerippochchu maatta poottunga, gopala bhoopala vaelappa vaadaappa.

  Kupps, the MD for Mazhalai pattalam-1980 was MSV.
  It was directed by actress Lakshmi and produced by K Balachander.
  
  The best song was 'Gowri Manohariyai kanden' -SPB-VJ.
  
  Thallu model vandi too was a popular song- where Vishnuvardhan takes his kids to meet Sumitra- the kids keep asking 'Pora idam engeyppa'? and he replies'Ponappuram solrenpa'!

  Nadu Iravil had music by the veena maestero S Balachander whose other movies include Bommai, Ithu Nijama & the songless Sivaji thriller "Andha naal". he wrotr, produced, directed & also acted in his movies.
  Bommai had a young KJY sing " Neeyum Bommai"
  nadu Iravil had two songs I think . One by SJ (/)went " kann kaatum Jaadayile Kaaviyam Kanden" & the other by LRE " Naalu Pakkam Eeri"
  OISG for me it has to be Deva( no I am serious !) But my raising the topic was to get a feel of the others. see how I missed S Balachander.
  Kunnakudi Vaithyanathan also gave good to passable music for Deivam, Mel Naatu Marumagal etc.

  TKRamamurthy, after he split from MSV, did only a handful of movies..
  
  Vijaybaskar or vijayanand (i dont remember his name) scored for "Naan adimai illai'
  
  gangai amaran too was a big hit with "Vaazhvey maayam" and a couple of other scores.. after that sank under the huge image of IR..

  Nadu iravil- Kan kaattum jaadayile kaaviam kanden--is by PS. The film was based on Agatha Christie's 'And then there were none'( also published under the title 'Ten little niggers'-The film was an excellent adaptation.
  
  Bommai had some great songs too- Thathi thathi by LRE, Kannai irttuthu by Harharasubramaniam, Veeramani & co, Kaiarugey kani irukka by Renuka and Engo pirandhavaraam by PS, besides KJY's Neeyum bommai. The BGM for Bommai was by DB Ramachandran.

  Kunnakudi s "raga Bandhangal" had very good songs apart from his memorable deivam,MN Marumagal,Vaa Raaja Vaa.Gumasthavin magal,Manithanum deivamagalam were pretty average.Navarathnam and Thodi Ragam were terrible.

  Can you rock your memory on this one. In ithu Nijama- the movie being a koodu vittu koodu paayum kathai there was this situation of a bagavathar in the midst of his song as soon as he comes to Ra or Ri going of to English Rock! That is all I can remember , can you come up with the song please.
  I think Thirumalai Thenkumari also had music by Kunnakudi. APN switched from KVM to Kunnakudi with vaa raaja vaa & " TT" followed. kankatchi also came subsequently. It had " Arangan aganthan.." dance potti song with APn providing the opening lines.

  I have heard some elders saying about Ithu Nijama.It think it is "Ma" - prob Mamava Pattabirama!
  
  The story is elder brother Madhavan gets killed in England and comes down as Aavi to India to help his brother.I am not sure still!
