We have had n tending to impatience ( not infinity!) threads about IR & ARR. So let us talk primarily about the good output of other MDS.
For starters
1.adityan had a not so bad effort in " Oyila paadum paatu" & vettila potta shokkule". where is he now.
2.Thalai vasal had more than passable music by Ilaya barathi. where is he now.
3.Cheran paandiyan had half an excellent song by sowdaryan. The start of kaadal kaditham was very good but midway it jumps into familar zone.
4.rajan Nagendra recycled " Inti Inti ramayanam" in Veetukku veedu vaasapadi. the music for Iru Nilavugal is also good. where are they now?
5 aslam Musthafa had a great opening bit in" Kicchu kicchu pannuda ' . movie mitta mirasu. is he doing anything now.
6. Maragathamani aka MM Kreem aka Keeravani is also not heard these days. azhagan songs were quite good.
7 Amsaleka was ok in "selai kattum pennukk...'
8.Devenran was quite good in "Vedam Puthithu" But I think he got caught in the crossfire between IR & BR. They came together in Nadodi Thenral & we have not heard anything from devendran have we?
8 Narasimhan started with abang in achamillai2 but hten gradually fizzled out. Amir John gave him acouple of chances I suppose but that is about it barring a weak comeback in a Revathi movie.
Of course we can talk about Bharadwaj, Vidya SagarChirpi (if we have to!), Mani Sharma, et al.
Other one time wonders can also be read if not heard!

  Mudisooda Mannan- Thodangum -Satyam (SL had told that Satyam was a Shenai player with MSV and did the work for Karnan along with Ustad Bismillah khan)
  
  Ramesh Naidu - Sengarumbu Thangakatti (Mela Thalangal) and Solla Vekkama (Pennukku yaar Kaval) were hits.If you count Nakshathiram originals RN has a decent output in tamil.
  
  T V Raju & J V Ragavalu are just Deva & Veda!
  
  Yaarukku yaar kaval had a good SPB song by K J Joy.
  
  Any ideas about AA Raj apart from Udhayamagirathu (after Oru thalai ragam)
  
  My vote is for G Devarajan for the Best of the rest.Annai Velankanni,Kuzhanthai esu,Thulabaram,Kumara Vijayam and the great Swami Ayyappan..

  1.I remember, in the seventies, there used to be a series of movies , with a standard formula: Family story, AVM Rajan, Music Direction and one or two songs by Soolamangalam sisters ( one definite song by TMS+ Soolamangalam!) etc., One example is 'Dharisanam'.
  
  2.In a slight deviation from this combination,in one film, TMS himself was the MD. In this film, one song sung by TMS goes like this: "Maappillai saarukku vaazhththukkaL! Sila maNi mozhi solvEn kEttukkO!"
  
  3.There was a film written by Komal Swaminathan, "Kallum Kaniyaagum", by Soundara Ragavan films, a joint venture of TMS & AL Raghavan, in which TMS acted. I don't know if he himself was the MD! It had one song starting with a dialogue (monologue?)by TMS "Sivagami, vetri, vetri, naan kaNdu pidichittEn!", and goes as: "Kai viralil piRanthathu naadham" with one 'kottangachi' violin accompaniment!

  Jhonson did a tamil movie (I guess a dubbing one), the songs were below average. I couldn't recollect the movie name though :)
  AA.Raj also did 'thaniyaatha dhaagam', lovely song by MV & SJ (poovE nee yaar solli yaarukaaga)
  Aanantha shankar did yaarO ezhuthiya kavithai, few good songs were in the movie.

  good to see the discussions.
  Dharapuram sunderrajan scored for a TR Ramanna film Neechal Kulam *g Suman.
  Who scored the music for Alli Darbar which had the AV Ramanan no" Azhagiya Tamizhin kavithai oru penna natho"
  Didn't Kamsh_Rajamani score for a tamil movie in mid 70s. (they had an orchestra & were quite popular before Kamesh died tragically)

  OISG,
  'Sengaruumbu Thangakatti' is from 'Adhaivida Ragasiyam'- MD-SG. In Melathalangal, I remember a nice SPB-SJ duet-"Ananda Veenai naan meetum pothu".
  
  The KJ Joy number you are referring to is 'Sippiyin Ulley- SPB-PS (Yaarukku yaar kaaval)-very popular on Ilangai Vaanoli at one time.
  
  G Devarajan was not the MD for Kuzhandai Yesu- it was Shyam. Shyam too gave some excellent songs - I once listed that he has done around 23 films in tamil- Some of his songs were really good.
  
  Besides the films of Devarajan you have mentioned, he had also done Kaaval Deivam, Kasthuri Thilagam, Vijaya, Paruva kaalam, Andharangam and Viliyanoor Madha. Kamal sang his first song in tfm, under Devarajan- Gnaayiru oli mazhayil in Andharangam.
  
  Devarajan used Madhuri predominantly- she found place in all his films.

  1. Those AVM Rajan films you mentioned- D B Ramachandran was the MD for Karpooram and Magizhampoo (both stg.AVR and Pushpalatha) Earlier DBR had done Manam oru kurangu. (All produced by VT Arasu, Soolamangalam R's brother in law)
  
  Soolamangalam Rajalakshmi was the MD for Dharisanam (1970), also produced by VT Arasu. Ithu maalai nerathu mayakkam-TMS-LRE is a timeless classic.
  She later composed music for Tiger Thathachari-1974. It too had good songs like 'Kalyanam oru vizha'-TMS-SR and 'Ezhumalai vaasa'-Soolamangalam sisters and K Veeramani.
  Her next film as MD was 'Appothey sonneney kettiya'-1979 (Ellam avan seithathu-KJY-VJ is an excellent testimony of SR's capability)
  Pillaiyaar(1984) was her last film as MD- Pillaiyaar pillaiyaar perumai vaaindha pillayaar did its rounds, especially during Vinayagar Chathurthi.
  
  The film for which TMS was the MD is 'Balapareetchai'-1977. It starred Muthuraman, Sujatha,Jaiganesh ,Pramila and YGM. 'Mapillai saarukku vaazhththukkal'-TMS-PS became a hit. 'Aarambamey isai aarohanam'-TMS- is another lovely song from it.
  
  The MD for Kallum Kaniyaagum was MSV. Other than 'Kai viralil', songs like 'Aththaan endren muthu muththaaga'-ALR-PS and 'Engey naan vaazhndhaalum'-TMS became quite popular from the film.

  Thanks for the detailed reply! One small tidbit about "Tiger Thathachari". Some fan had observed in some magazine (PesumPadam???) as follows:
  
  While Sivaji has taken care to drink water from an 'ever silver' tumbler without touching his lips ("cheeppaamal") in "Vietnam veedu", Major hasn't bothered to do this while portraying an orthodox Brahmin character! (though one is born in the Brahmin community while the other is not!) Shows Sivaji's diehard commitment to he role! ( I agree it could have been a small slip on Major's part though!)

  You find LAxmi doing a similar thing in "Sila nerangalil sila manithargal"-consuming directly from the vessel- a not-so-brahmin practice those days.It was slip by Bhim singh -another Brahmin!
  
  You are right GD did not do Kuzhanthai esu prob i am confusing it with "Villiyanur matha" or something like that.
  
  Saravanan ,you had mentioned abot Dhanasekar- Thyagarajan combo elsewhere - Malargalin Rani.Any further inputs?
  
  Jaya vijaya - Patha Boojai had some good songs.They did "Mathi oli Shanmugam s "Pappathi" too i think.This movie was on the news for all wrong reasons.
  
  Does "Yaro Ezhithiya Kavithai" features a Balamurali- Pinaz Mazaani duet?
  
  I think "Kallum Kaniyagum" was indeed by TMS himself and not MSV.
  
  Soolamangalam were indeed good as MDs but their arrangements were ditto MSV-ish.

  Reg. Dhanasekhar and Mallika, Subbu, in PS thread says that they also sang a song in the film 'Thaalaattu'.
  
  Kallul Kaniyaagum- definitely MSV- I have seen the record.
  
  Jaya-Vijaya also did 'Shanmugapriya'-1973, which had the famous PS song-Kundrangal aadi varum.
  
  The MBK-Pinaaz Mazaani duet you are referring to is from 'Thalaivanukkor Thalaivi'-1989.

  Jaishankar acted as a hero in a Tamil-Lanka JV production.The MD was sinhalese i think.Any good songs?MSV was the MD for the other JVs. Neelakdalin oorathile & Thee.Pilot premnath too featured a PJ-LRE duet with Sinhalese words in the beginning.

  I too remember the song 'Arulvadivey' by KJY- I think it is from 'Vaazhthungal'-1978- I am not sure about the MD, though.
  
  Shanmugapriya, I think had AVM Rajan and Jaya.
  
  I didn't know that 'Thee' was a JV- I thought it was a Balaji film, though Rajini's pair was a Srilankan actress called Shoba.
  Reg. the Pilot Premnath song with Sinhalese words in the beginning, it was sung by LRE and Ceylon Manohar. The PJ-LRE duet is 'Azhagi oruththi ilaneer vikkiraa cozhumbu veedhiyile'.
  Wasn't 'Oththayadi paadhayiley' -1980 too a JV?- (stg. Sripriya and Gamini Disanayaka- MD-SG- having the KJY-VJ duet'Seppakkudam thookkipora'). Was Jai too there in this film?
  
  Another Indo-Srilankan JV was 'Nangooram'-1979 stg. Muthuraman, Lakshmi and a Srilankan actor.
  Music by V Kumar and Khemadasa, who was a Srilankan. Good songs like 'Aalayam nayagan, Gopuram nayagi'-SPB-SJ, and 'Oru Paarvai paarkum pothu'-SPB-K Swarna.
  
  Reg.Thalattu, excuse me for pasting my earlier post in PS thread:
  
  "I have one song from Thalattu in my Soolamangalam Rajalakshmi collection. It is a lovely duet by TMS & SR- "Malligai pooppottu kannanukku mangala neeraattu, shenbaga pooppottu paadu oru senthamizh thalattu' (written by Mayavanathan)- gentle, soothing lullaby.
  
  Thalattu(1969) had music by ML Srikanth. (Mariadoss Luis Srikanth was a very talented musician- he hummed for the PS song 'Kaadhal kaadhal' in Utharavindri Ulley Vaa. Of course he was the MD for 'Ninaipathu Niraiverum'(1976)- the title song by MLS & VJ is unforgettable and the VJ solo'Ennendru solvenadi'is mesmerising)
  
  As for the other songs in 'Thalattu'- I remember the haunting TMS solo-'Vilakkillamal kanakkezhuthi en vaazhkkai amaithaaya' and 'Varum pothu medayil vilayaadinom' by Seergazhi Govindarajan. (lyrics for both- Thiruppathoor Rasu, who changed his name later to 'Thirupaathooraan' and later again called himself as 'Kaalidasan' and wrote all the songs in 'Vaikasi Poranthaachu' and the famous Amman song in 'Purusha latchanam').
  'Thalattu' starred someone called Raja pandian as hero."
  
  Subbu later gave addl. information that the herione of Thalaattu was Vijaysri and it also had a duet by Dhanasekhar and Mallika.
