Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

Song of the Day: amaidhiyaana nadhiyinilE Odam from aaNdavan kattaLai.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/amaithiyaana.rm
- Sung by TMS and P.Suseela. Music by Viswanathan-Ramamoorthy and lyrics by Kannadasan.
- I love the prelude of this song. On hearing the prelude, you know that a great song is around the corner. Then comes the soft voice of TMS and it gets you hooked. This song and "aaru manamE aaru" from the same movie are perhaps a couple of best renditions of TMS.
- Raagam harikambOthi?

Thanks for the nice song bb :-)
'aaNdavan kattaLai'nnathum oru vishayam nyapagam varuthu - Vaalee mentioned this in his autobiography !
In MGR's film arasa kattaLai, vaalee wrote these lines - 'antha aaNdavan kattaLai munnaalae, un arasa kattaLai ennaagum' ... and .... MGR was angry with Vaalee for writing this ... 'coz he thought vaalee is conveying an 'indirect' message - Sivaji padam (aaNdavan kattaLai) is better than MGR Padam (Arasa kattaLai !)
:-D

It is one the best of PS-TMS combo. No need to mention how good it is.
Naga, the fact is arasa kattalai is nothing in comparison with aandavan kattalai except the songs. KVM had given fabulous songs like "Vettaiyadu Villaiyadu" and "Aadap pirandhavalle aadi vaa".

naanal has the capacity to change the river's flow, so naanal poala powerful-aa woman's legs, smile, eyes, hips, almost any anatomical attribute can be used.

While there are so many special things in today's SOTD, the flute deserves special mention for capturing the scenery.

"nANal" has two meanings:
- one is a kind of grass normally found on river banks. It is known for its flexibility and strength ("power" as Udhaya put it). Hence it gets used quite frequently to portray a woman in positive light (and no, I am not getting into any discussion about male domination ;-))
- the second meaning is "the act of blushing" ("nANudhal"). The thing to note is that the two lines make sense regardless of which meaning you assume for "nANal". The two meanings don't apply to the "nadhiyOram" song ("annai Or Alayam"?), which is a beautiful song in its own right.
BTW, Udhaya, appidi pOdunga aruvALa!

bb: Nice song! It does not sound like 'Harikambhoji' to me. May be a derivative of that mela! It is a difficult raga to handle. I am not sure they use it that much in cinema songs. If you ask Carnatic music fans they will tell you that only DKP handled it well!
KP,SP et al: I think KD is using Naanal to mean being shy/bashful/modest. Naanathudan is probably more appropriate. It is poetic license for KD. As Udhaya says just enjoy the tune!

when i hear `amaidhiyana nadhiyinile` song,
it reminds how flexibility and adaptability are
important to cope with different circumstances of
life.It is melodious and soothing song.

master tune by MSV.
See how the melody is calm and flowing
during 'Amaidhiyana nadhiyinilae odam'
and gets tense during 'Katrinilum Mazhaiyinilum'!

Really one of the best songs in melody and
is better than IRs "thaalatudhe vaanam" because of
its simplicity, no ostentatious orchestration but
just a very melodious tune and very good singing.
Thats what I guess MSV was popular for. Infact
PS so effortlessly blends into the song with her
humming before she sings her lines. I find that
very good attribute in duets, another example is
the song "kaathodu poo urasa.." where SPB joins SJ

Song of the Day: andhi mayanguthadi from Parthiban kanavu.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/andhimayang.rm
- Sung by MLV. Music by Veda. This is probably Veda's best album. Lyrics by Vindhan.
- Raagam KalyaaNi(?) A dance song featuring Kumari Kamala, I think. This song, in praise of Murugan, is featured in dance concerts regularly.
- Thread on MLV in films: http://www.newtfmpage.com/forum/4200.20053.7.html

andhi mayanguthadi - Though Iam not able to hear your SOTD, Iam able to play this superb song thru my mind player. MLV had that 'Gambeeramaana mrudhu' quality.
