Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

Song of the Day: iniya thendralE iru kaigaL veesi vaa from amma piLLai.

- The last song in MS' selection of rare SPB songs for a week. Music by Shankar Ganesh. If the movie name is correct, then this is a Ramki/Seetha film. He notes:
This song is a shadow of the more popular "ennavendru solvadhamma". I dont know which came first. Set in raga shankarabaranam. The most beautiful phrase in this song is:
"kavi kamban kaaviyam
ravi varman oviyam"
This is the ONLY phrase I rememberd all along until I was given this song by Udhaya - thanks to him.
The lines "iraNdum ivaLo inikkum thamizo" of this song's pallavi and
"vaNNappoovin vaasam vandhu nEsam pEsum" of "ennavendru solvadhamma"' s charanam almost have the same tune.
Though both songs are well rendered by SPB the SOTD seems to be delivered by a feverish SPB :)

The beat structure and the pace reminds me of "Mounamaana neram" from Salangai Oli.
MS, this sounds more like a run-of-the-mill IR song from the mid 80s :-)

Vaali and SPB set this apart from anything run-of-the-mill. The tune is average but the orchestration doesn't get in the way of the voice and the lyrics which is all the favor S-G needed to do for this song. Now, "ennavendRu sollvadhamma", that can be called a run-of-the-mill attempt by all parties involved including SPB. Was the lyricist there Vaali too? If so, he phoned it in for that song.

That's surprising. RVU usually attains some distinction in lyrics.

bb,
Congrats on the new arrival! Kuzhandhaikku enna peyar vaikkap pOgiReergaL?
MS,
Around July 2003, when I was a new entrant (almost along with Saravanan), I had mentioned in the VJ thread that in 1975, I had the misfortune of seeing ' thennangeeRRu', a pale rehash of earlier KB films. It was directed by KO.Vi.Manisekharan, perhaps his only brush with TF. Surprisingly, Saravanan was surprised to know this tidbit but had pointed out that Ko.Vi. had written some TF songs in the 50's/60's!

I thought 'ammaa piLLai' was by Chandrabose.
Anyway, it came out at least a year before 'raajakumaaran' (1994).

NagaS,
Not bad? RVU belongs with the best of modern day lyricists if we go by a percentage basis to judge his songs. IR could've made him his full time lyricist and produced many more treasures. Of course, both sides should be willing for that. RVU is a better lyricist than a director, but unfortunately he feels his prestige lies in the latter. Too bad for TFM fans.

Udhaya,
I think there is some miusnderstanding, Neenga RVU-vai sumaar-nnu solRathaa ninaichchu naan athai tone down paNNa, now I am in the other end :-D
I totally agree with you - RVU is a better lyricst than a director ! All his movies had decent lyrics ...
He wrote for others' movies too - Chinna maapLae had couple of good songs, Yuvan Shankar Raja's 2nd Movie 'Velai' had one very nice duet by RVU - OOyvedu OOyvedu Nilavae ...

Kamban Kaviyam,Ravi varman oviyam -Most beautiful phrase?????
Azhaganum oviyam inge unai ezhuthiya ravi varman enge
Kavi kamban ezhutha paatai naan
Both these ordinary phrases come in Urukku Uzhaippavan song.BTW what is beautiful? The varnanai?
Varnanigal kavithayavathu Kannadasanodu mudinthuvittathu.Let me try an example of brinigning in Kavidhai even after Tharkuripetrapatta varnanai.
MuthukkaLo KangaL ...when you expect another uvamai KD a KD in Tamil comes out with Thithipatho kannam..A Kadhalan s lack of patience comes out in style.
There is another eg.
Kuzhal inithu Yazh inithu enbar - you know what would come next but Valluvar has the last laugh when he inserts Avar "THAM"(one's own kids!).Kurumbu izhaiyodum Kavidhai!Thats what sets Muthulingams and Valluvar apart.

Song of the Day: kodi yEththi vaippOm from pithaamagan.

- ellaarukkum iniya deepaavaLi vaazhthukkaL!
- Several movies are releasing for deepaavaLi: Thirumalai, Anjaneya, Iyarkai and Pithaamagan. Out of these, pithaamagan seems to be the most promising. Directed by Bala, of Sethu and Nandha fame. *ing Vikram, Laila and Surya. Bala doesn't seem to do a lot of compromises for commercial cinema. His films reflect a lot of pain and silent suffering. I liked Sethu, but was floored by Nandha and its ending. In a film world where heroes recite pages and pages of dialogues in the climax, Nandha's ending was very different and very appealing. Pithaamagan seems to continue Bala's fascination with undocumented characters, like Vikram playing a vettiyaan in this film.
- This song is sung by Bhavatharini, Periya Karuppu Thevar, Shanmugasundari and Raghavendhar.

Hi bb. Deepavalli Nal Vaazthukal.
I have listened the Kodi Yethi Vaipom song. It is ok kind of song. Situation looks like yet another temple song. This song doesn't impress much eventhough IR had done lots of such songs. But I have listened only once. This is just my first opinion.

Main thing about the song - Bhavatharini's voice..... seems to have matured a lot, and not much pisiraaal..... good that she has dropped that "mookalaaa padarraa" thingggy :-)....

OISG,
Why stop at Kannadhaasan and Valluvar? innum siththargaL, Kamban, iLango ellaarayum izhuthuttu vandhu compare pannunga with muthulingam and vaali. Please. If we were to stick with one style of writing, we can't listen to any TFM song since Kannadhaasan's death.
iniya thendralae--has a breezy charm fully embodied by SPB. There are no easy rhymes like maanae/thaenae, no cliches like kannan/raadhai, malar/kaaLai, poo/vaNdu which is saying a lot for Vaali who for once joined the fun and left his bag of cliches and contempt for TFM at home. varnanai songs have almost nothing new to say, still I like hearing them now and then. This is as absurd as saying, falling in love has been done before, so don't do that trite thing.
"idhazhgaL ivai iraNdum nalla amudhap paaththiram" was fresh. So was, "nadhiyil aadum naanal ivaL idhazh kaattum saayal".
There are surprises in the sandham too:
nadandhaal vaNNap paadham sivakkum sivakkum
adhanaal endhan nenjam thavikkum thavikkum
...here, when you expect a long line to follow, you get the swift turn:
adhai nee sendRu solli vaa
and back to pallavi:
iniya thendRalae
