IR or ARR

hi all, I am Anand from bangalore and a new visitor to the tfm page. I am a great fan of both ARR and IR. I browsed through all the earlier threads on ARR and IR. It seems to me that there are quite a few anti ARRs out here.

Let me tell you something about IRs music. IRs music became popular and sounded different because he tried to bring in a westernization of Carnatic ragas in his songs. Even a dappanguthu was in Lathaangi or sivaranjani. That actually made the difference. Otherwise he is no great MD. One might argue that such a westernization or incorporation of a carnatic raga in a dappanguthu or jazz is something that demands great applause. But IR doesn't deserve that because, if u say u are tuning a song in a particular raagam, you have to bring out the nuances, the laya and bhaava of the raagam in to the song. Just traversing the swaras in the raagam here and there does not mean that u have tuned a song in that raagam. Ilayaraaja has done just that, a mere traversal through the swaras. In many places, there were apaswaras also. ARR has tuned very few songs based on Carnatic ragas but they were classics. For example Mettu podu in Anjali is a beautiful song in Ananda Bhairavi. He has brought out every nuance of the raagam in that song. Minsaara Kanna in padaiyappa is an excellent piece in vasantha. En mel vizhunda mazhai tuliye is again a beautiful piece in kaapi. A real mix of the east and west. That is what u call fusion. Ilayaraaja boasts of having composed songs in rare raagas like chala nattai, kanakangi etc. For example pani vizhum malar vanam in chala nattai is again a pure note traversal. There was no attempt to bring out the nuances in the raaga. So IR knew how to make songs sound good but ARR gives a fine polish to each and every one of his songs. IR composed music for 700 odd films. Hey Ram is his 785th film. Considering 7 songs per movie, he has tuned almost 5500 songs. Huge number indeed but hardly 5% of those songs are listenable others are 100% pure junk. But 99.9% of ARRs songs are listenable and they are also good numbers. What do you say about this?

  Just do not "bow" down to the "sad"s of the world...the comments of sad are as appropriate as the title.."sad".
  
  This is the story of this df...when they can have people bashing Ir and everything is ok...but say a word defending IR..there are people who have personal grudges against IR who think it is now their licence to bash IR...
  
  "Sad"s commentary on IR should not matter to anyone of us who have been genuine lovers of IR's music..anyone who has seen his postings know that it has been a personal crusade against Ir..but let us not bow down in defending IR...For them who think ARR is the next incarnation of the music god, all we can say is we pity you.. let us enjoy our Raja's music.
  
  staements made out of personal grudges, biases will never harm Ir's reputation nor can ever take anything away from his accomplishments and talents. All it can do is reflect on the people who make those satements.
  
  For the record, as has been discussed here before manam virubuthey Unnai is a great album...I haven"t heard as great a composition like "edho Edho nenjil" from the others...

  By the way I happen to see the trailor of heyram in zee tv, title comes as music by mastero!.... where is the symphony to put this title...
  
  Personal grudge against raja!...there had been too much arr bashing for 3 years now, inspite of arr reaching heights, this clearly shows who is biassed...

  I do not know write varthai jalams or word twisting or abusing some one for a personal gain... --- personal crusade against raja --
  why shoud I? am I going to earn $1 or more! nothing.--- or arr fans are going to pay me something to do so.
  
  From the day one you guys have been throwing what not at arr....can I call it a wanted personal attacks or can I brand you people who have personal grudges against arr who think it is now their licence to bash arr or (anyone for that matter)

  can I ask fox to shoot a serial call when raja fans attack!....

  Just take some time to read your own review of KANNUKKUL NILAVU in the Reviews Section - while the album has been received / reviewed very well by everyone and justifiably so, you make it a point to denounce KN as just another run-of-the-mill album from IR !! Now, who is being biased ? ?
  
  This whole story of IR-ARR duel started only when some elements started going around and throwing muck on IR for the heck of it - take time to go back to the postings of a year back, when Srinath was 'forced' to take an aggressive stance in 'defending' IR, and in the process had to retaliate severely....
  
  Well, to call "Ilavenil kaala panchami" , "yedho yedho" as a bucket of trash - do not throw too much muck, even your hands will start smelling of the same perpetually !

  KANNUKKUL NILAVU in the Reviews Section - while the album has been received / reviewed very well by everyone
  who is everyone!....I feel reviewing is not to fetch a good name!...review is what I felt about the scores...I cannot give a white lie just thinking that raja has composed great things in the past, so this should also be goodd...no I am not for it...What I put as also felt by many in chennai!....and people who dont dare to post it here because of personal attacks!...which I dont care. what happened to those songs now...Leave arr!...many deva's songs are topping.
  
  If you count here there are more arr bashing threads than any threads....who is sadistic...
  people reading here will know it.

  I learnt this art of too much muck (what ever)from you guys only,

  I don't understand your logic. Why should anyone write only 'good' reviews about KN just because the album is a commercial success. And FYI, KN is not even close to Kamriyadhai in terms of commercial success. None of the songs are a rage like 'ennai thalaata varuvaala'. The songs are decent , IMO, but not at all great.
  they are definitely run-of-the-mill, IR could have composed them in his sleep.
  
  If u had heard Hey Ram carefully, u would'nt be praising KN. Its sad fact that IR is giving perhaps 3 great numbers/year at the most for the last 3 years. Perhaps 80% of the remaining range from above average to fair and the rest are not worth spending time about.

  Reg. your question as to why a genius like IR should produce junk albums, I would like to ask this question back to u. I myself have wondred several times as to what makes IR give great albums like anjali, mouna raagam at the same time deceiving us with albums like magaraasan(has only 1 good song),magalir mattum etc.
  
  My guess is that IR knows that he is composing inferior albums but either does'nt bother or is not motivated enough or does'nt like the director much. Depending on the situation one of the above 3 reasons predominate.

  vijay, very good question: I have asked the same question to few people I know in the music circle, they gave somewhat similar answers...I can email it you, I dont want to post it here...
  
  one of the good factor about arr I like is he makes sure all the songs are hits....he gives equal importance to all the songs (for few here what I talk might be junk!...if so be it.).
  Take arr albums all the songs will go on top atleast for month and few will stay for more time...Raja gave such albums in 80's for many
  mic mohan movies. Some might say raja-maniratham movies combo gave all songs hit scores, I give 60% credit to Mani ratham, he makes sure he gets the best for all the songs.

  hello,srikanth sir. just wait a minute. etho oru review section koduthutaanganu nee patuku oru review eluthitu, andha review thaaan Madras la irundhu US varaikum othukittu irukaanga nu nee solrathu, "poonai kanna moodikitta olagame irutu nu nenachukara kathaya irukku". you always aim at cheap publicity. that is what you aspire for and that is what you are doing. a day is not so far when you are going to be caught by your collar and thrown out for wantonly spitting venom in this forum at one hand but broadcasting mp3 songs of ilayaraja on your broadcast channel. u rant and rave about everything claiming that you have "informed close circles in the music industry". better go take some rest.this is a weekend. better go to some pub and have some fun time with some chics rather than wasting your time as well as others. to avoid arr bashing, you are taking recourse to ir bashing. hey, you are inviting trouble man

  Hello Srikanth..... latest addition to the list is CHO just because he made "A STATEMENT"..... oh man, i could not take it just as "A STATEMENT", and that to from CHO..... do u mean "after MSV now only i hear something called music" is just a statement????? comeon sriks, its equivalent to others bashing ARR..... once in a while u prove something here..... this is onething that keeps me wondering, u seem to be suddenly having a too harsh outburst on IR, why is that?????

  and u said "Manam Virumbudhey Unnai" has not good songs???? man man man, am i hearing u wrongly or have u closed ur ears for all the songs... yes i agree 100% the songs did not do commercially well, no one other than the IR fans in this DF forum would have heard this cassete..... but still, for heavens sake dont take away the credit from IR for this movie..... it was a pretty much decent album.... but i agree with u that the BGM of that movie is not upto IR's standards (happened to watch this movie y'day night only, hey, some good movie by Prabhu).....
  
  and as far as the IR God and other titles, hey Sriks, do u really take these titles seriously.... man, give me a break..... i always laugh at these titles.... and dont say me there is no one to give ARR such titles.... i do see those kind of titles also....
  
  Srinath thozha, konjum konjum kammia ARRai bash pannuppaaa..... may be u dont like him at all.... but still, we need to agree to the facts (may be the facts are ugly, but still).... everyone has to be replaced one day or the other.... Annakili came and we all knew who was replaced..... so Roja came and whether anyone agrees or not (personally even i hate to agree) IR got replaced... that's it... well one good thing thats a real wonder is IR is still competing to get it back..... lets welcome it... lets pray and hope he gets it back (well, 'Kanavu Kanoom Vazhkai yavum....')....

  arr rasigan ---what a sidey name to make sure to that you are something...cheap publicity, have fun with chicks --- this clearly shows what cheap mentality you have and how bad is your taste and growth has been....
  
  I pity you instead of being angry with to you. arr rasigan nee yaro,..this is a public forum I have every right to contribute. so why dont you talk some sense instead of bashing individuals here.
  
  and to administrators of this page, did you read the posting, why do you allow personal bashing postings, do you see anything wrong unparmlimentry in my postings or have I bashed any indivituals till today.
  
  When People can bash arr, same people can bash also raja....why dont you guys stop bashing arr instead advicing me to do something you like to do, like going to pub...etc.
