Its 15$ a month. The same program schedule as in India but only adjusted to California time.
yipeee.
why is this relevant to newtfmpage?
Most TFM DF'ers who comment on music are based in USA and they have to buy CD'a and cassts to actually get to hear Latest TFM music. Now its on Sun TV most of the time and so more TFM for USA DF'ers.

Jesse,
I just hope they NEVER EVER DO the followin
//"4). I am sure TV is a powerful tool; it could be used to entertain, educate and enhance our life styles especially people live in other countries. So, I think we need someone who could teach & entertain exclusively our community for survival. Not sure we will be satisfied with this prigs.
5). We require local participation especially people like us living in the USA would like to watch & enjoy our local contents. "//
mega serials are boring but some people like it.
I will UNSUBSCRIBE sun tv if they put even ONE USA specific program. they should keep it as it is and show what they show in madras.
they will completely detsroy whatever they have if they actually change anything to satisfy USA audience.

bharath,
so eventhough u think mega serials are boring and there are so many serials per day, u still don't want to have that changed? why actually?
i mean i think i can follow ur thought-path upto a certain point. u want to feel urself as if u were at madras, at least what tv concerns, and so u want to leave everything as it is.
i think what jesse meant is perhaps a us-version of sun tv with more contents concerning local indian activities. say 70% normal indian sun-tv and 30% us-based sun-tv, which we could get thru 'baning' a major part of those boring mega serials. wouldn't it be a good idea to get rid of those boring serials, instead make space for more interesting programs?
of course this 70-30 sun-tv is only meant for US audience and not for those in madras.
of course, the other question is how realistic such a concept would be. would sun tv be willing to invest money into such a project like 'US-SunTV'? is it a profitable business? is there enough demand for it?

prabhudas, i need to chk wit my dad how he got the recording work..for me it's no hassle, i jus have to record like how i record a normal show on local tv. very convenient. i havnt ventured into putting the tv & comp tog tho! wish i cud burn shows onto vcds!! I wud esp love to extract the audio and store them..i mean the songs. I have some wonderful songs on video which i dont have on cassette/cds.

raycas,
the problem is with the 30% US based sun tv. what do u think the programs will be.. cant be movies. its either boring mega serials based on US based tamils (which is from frying pan to fire) or some dcumentary of US based tamils (yuck).
what iw ud really detest is advertisemnts of US products. they are generally horrible and much inferior to tamil.
I dont think there is enugh US specific "tamizhness" to exploit here. while the tamils in US are trying to recreate mini tamil nadu. making SUn TV US will be againt the wind direction.
plus did u see NRI spl B4U. its horrible. the VJ's and their accents. yuck!
SUn TV has been in middle east, malasia and spore for quite sometime .. it hasnt changed bcoz of that ..thats the reason for its sucess.. hopefully it will remain the same.

mine is facing the opposite side of southwest. sea facing and that way from the breeze i can get the signals i think.
is that also okay? or, should it always be sun facing? because on the surface of the sea when i surf on the internet i can see the sun, that means i am south facing, sunfacing and surfacing... u think i can get asianet also with all this facelities? or, do u think i will need a huge china net ("cheenavala" one film of Prem Nazeer film, whom raycas does not like at all).
otherwise, i will wait for the next phase of satellite technology dvelpment so that i can get JJ TV, Gemini TV, Surya TV and also Moon TV

wn,
u mean the dish? (don't know anything about fixing or positioning the receiver). our dish receives signals from 2 satellites, from one called astra (for the normal european programmes here) and from hotbird (for asianet), that means we have 2 lnbs in order to receive both signals. is it that what u meant?
bharath,
>>I dont think there is enugh US specific "tamizhness" to exploit here.>while the tamils in US are trying to recreate mini tamil nadu>plus did u see NRI spl B4U.<<
no, haven't got the chance to watch it, so can't judge it.
oh damn, got to go...sorry for the digression...

well, this i of course don't know. any idea how many tamilians there are in the US?
this is something that happens here in vienna too. the first generation malayalees here have founded organisations like vienna malayalee association or kerala samajam to create closer relations between the malayalees here and to preserve that community thru various numbers of social activities like onam programmes, christmas programmes and gettogethers (where they play cards and sing and dance etc.), just to create that atmosphere as if they were in good old kerala.
but the problem in this creating of mini-kerala (or mini tamil nadu) is that their interaction with the society they live in has not yet developed, instead they are escaping into their mini-keralas and mini-tamil nadus. and if u are settled in a foreign country i don't think this is a healthy development. i mean there is nothing wrong (in fact it is something that should be done!) in preserving ur own culture and identity, but this shouldn't happen at the expense of neglecting your present surrounding.
but, another thing is, the second generation, born and bought up here, follow a different trend, i think jesse and me belong to this generation who may don't find documentaries about US or foreign based indians boring, if it is interesting enough. for example, aren't there many indian musicians or just artists who gain praise and popularity all around the world nowadays, like our very own arr with his bombay dreams or ravi shankar with his grammy, ilayaraja and his unreleased smyphony, lagaan at the oscars, night shyamalan with his movies (sixth sense and now signs), pop-artists with indian roots like sabrina setlur or Gim in germany etc.
i would be interested in watching exclusive reports about their concerts etc.
another idea would be following: as i mentioned above, indians all around the world have many organisation which conduct various festivals and programmes throughout the year. i should say that the programmes i get to see here are really fantastic in terms of professionality and quality. i wouldn't mind seeing parts of such programmes from other countries like UK, germany or italy in the television.
so this is what i meant with 30% us-suntv.

raycas,
watchin such programms regarding NRI maybe interesting for a 1-time viewing as some sort of exotic thing.. but on a regular basis it may become boring for tamilians in general. such programs may also be intersting as a special program to the foreign TV also.
but frankly and i know i am offending many many people here.. but its a candid opinion atleast..
i dont find programs by 2nd genration indians interesting. I mean I wud give A for effort. because they r trying to replicate a culture thats not natural to them.
but thats where i stop. I wud probably see it 1ce but on a regular basis its boring. and its definetly artificial and forign.
i know even in TN programs r very western..but given choices of seeing westernised progs from TN Vs programs from forign countries.. I wud take former anytime..
moreover such 2nd generation viewers like u are small in number and may not be enugh for commercial benefits..
