Simply mind-blowing
November 20
Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi can’t stop raving about the songs of Mani Ratnam’s Yuva. “A.R. Rahman and Mani Sir and dynamite together,” says Vivek on the sets of Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria’s Masti, and adds, “The six songs Rahman has recorded for the film are mind-blowing.”
Ajay Devgan, his co-star in Yuva and Masti, uses the same words to describe them. Incidentally, when the film was launched earlier this year, Mani Ratnam had decided not to have a single song in it.
Vivek also feels that Abhishek Bachchan’s is the best role and best performance in the film. “That guy’s career will take off in a big way after Yuva,” predicts Vivek.

Hi Curses, not an offence towards ARR. I am a great fan of him. A fan of IR, ARR and HJR. It may be a coincidence. Just hear them both. Both are almost the same.

Boxofficeindia stats says tht "MHN" audio is a big time hit & "Yuva" sales have been disappointing :(
In "MHN" only the title track is amazingly good...the rest are all juz average..Okay atleast I can understand it being no. 1 coz of the SRK-factor..but how on earth is "Murder" sales ahead of "Yuva"..which is in 5th place??

Everyone has their Einstein’s mechanism to record hits and flops, who knows which the correct one is.
Run and yuva selling half a million cassettes each, Abishek bachan is not even a star, and the music of run is no way close to yuva.
Since Venus paid a hefty price tag for the rights about 3 crores they might want to conceal the actual sales figure to have unreported income.

Venus hopes to outshine competition with yuva
Salma Khatib
Champak Jain of Venus talks about the that extra edge his music
company has got after bagging the music rights of Mani Ratnam's Yuva..
. ----------
t's taken for granted that when filmmaker Mani Ratnam and composer A.
R. Rahman team up, the music is something one can look forward to.
Both are known for their sensitivity, and both strike the right chord
in people's heart. Remember Roja, Bombay, Dil Se to name some.
Somehow, Rahman's songs in Ratnam's film seamlessly flow with the
plot, and give the film a boost. Also the fact that Ratnam is Rahman's
mentor, and this ensures that the composer puts in that extra
something when he's making music for his "Sir."
So when the music of Ratnam's latest venture Yuva (made in Hindi and
Tamil) was ready, it was hot property, and bagging the music rights
was a prestige issue for any music company. It was Venus who pipped
the other companies to the post, and ended up getting the much
sought-after music of the Hindi version (the Tamil music rights are
with Sony Music). Naturally, Champak Jain of Venus has a reason to
smile and is excited about the `prize deal'. "Mani Ratnam and Venus
have come togther again after Dil Se, and like the past film we are
sure to make magic with Yuva ," he says.

continue......
It was important for Venus to bag the music rights of the film reveals
Jain. "After the super success of the music of Dil Se, we were keen on
the music rights of Mani Ratnam's next film because we know that the
the Mani-Rahman combination never fails," he opines.
According to Jain, all the numbers in the film are potential
chartbusters. "There are songs like `Anjaana anjaani...' sung by Lucky
Ali, `Neem neem...' sung by AR Rahman and Madhushree, and the very
romantic `Badal...' sung by Adnan Sami and Alka Yagnik which are
beautifully composed and high on melody. All the five songs in the
film have been made keeping the youth in mind and since the name of
the film is Yuva, it has to captivate the youth. Just wait and watch.
In a few days, Yuva songs will be played at all the discos. They are
so catchy," he says confidently.
Two songs in the film are very "different" according to Jain. "One of
them is `Fanaa...', which is highly charged, while the title song
packs a lot of punch. It depicts the devil-may-care arrogance of the
youth, that `in-your-face' attitude. It has a different sound," he
explains.
The music company chief is sure he has a winner on hands. "It's
extraordinary music. Yuva is sure to rate amongst the biggest hits of
the year. The music was released on March 18, and within a week's time
we had sold more than five lakhs audio cassettes and 50,000 CDs. Now
the sales have more than doubled," Jain claims.
At a time when music sales are dwindling and buyers are being very
discreet about going in for musicassettes, it's heartening to know
that the music is selling. "I know that the music industry is not
doing well presently, which is why it is important to have good music
which sells. Quality fare will always attract consumers irrespective
of the pricing," Jain opines, "Yuva music is sure to succeed which is
why it was vital that we get the rights.
The soundtrack is capable of making it on its own steam, but we are
offering lucrative incentives to the buyers by giving a free CD of
other Rahman hits, alongwith the CD of Yuva, at a reasonable price of
Rs. 125. So that makes it a hard-to-resist buy."
Since Venus was keen on the music rights of Ratnam's film, was the
company ready to get it at any cost? "I wouldn't like to foray into
that territory," Jain states, but when coaxed a bit, he reveals, "We
bought it at a price which would ensure us good returns, and which was
reasonable for both the producer and the music company." That means
gone are the days when music companies paid astronomical sums to the
filmmaker to get the rights (Yaadein music was bought by Tips at about
rupees eight crores and Devdas music by Universal at rupees 12 crores)
? "Oh yes, those days are definitely out," replies Jain, "With low
returns in the music market today because of various reasons like
piracy and MP3, such deals will be unheard of in the future."
Originally, Yuva was to be made as a songless film, which is a new
trend these days. But Jain feels that the songs have now become an
asset to the film. "When you see the film, it looks better with songs
because there is so much scope for them. As the title suggests, it's a
youth-oriented subject, and the compositions blend effortlessly with
the story," he says, "It was publicity designer Rahul Nanda who first
sounded out to me that I should go for the music of Yuva. I then
followed it up from there and I am happy we got the rights because it
also shows that Mani Ratnam has faith in us."
Besides the soundtrack requiring universal appeal, Jain says that the
casting of the film also influences the decision to take on the music
rights. "A big starcast is an advantage because it helps draw
attention to the music and enhances the sales. Unless the music is so
exceptional that it will sell inspite of unknown faces. But that's
rare," points out Jain, "The cast of Yuva has impressive names like
Ajay Devgan, Vivek Oberoi, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji and Kareena
Kapoor, and it plays on the mind of a buyer."
What are the other factors considered before buying the music rights?
"One has to study the market and see the trend, and then go for the
rights. You got to have this ability to sense good music, a musical
mind to realise what will work. Also, Venus would now like to get the
music rights of only those banners who offer quality fare. And that
means big banners," Jain explains.
Besides the regular television promos, Venus has planned other ways to
market the music of Yuva. "The film is due for release at the end of
May, and before that we are planning to hold live shows for the youth
of the country," Jain informs.
The music of Ratnam's Dil Se, which had the hit number `Chhaiya
chhaiya...' had raked in a lot of moolah for Venus, and Jain is
super-confident that with the music of Yuva, history will repeat
itself. "Believe it or not, the music of Dil Se still sells. Had the
film been a hit, it would have recorded even bigger sales. I am sure
the music of Yuva will sell as much as Dil Se, and maybe even better,"
Jain hopes.

I have given the wrong song. It is not ' Sandiyare Sandiyare '. It is Andha Gandamani song in Virumaandi. Resemblance is there. However, it may be a co-incidence. I didn't mean to say it is a copy. I just wanted to share something interesting that I noticed with the TFM fans. I have given the songs with the time at which that music comes. Just check that.
