KS, here is one link
http://funkymusic.tripod.com/bte/bt.html
the song is "do it till you're satisfied"
you can get plenty others if you search in google, although I am not sure if you can get a version that is much better than the link that I posted

Karthik S,
I thought "aasai athigam vechu" had too much resemblence to "the way you make me feel" by MJ. Much in the same way "telephone mani" had to do with "all that she wants"...
infact for the first 2-3 secs you cnanot even distinguish "aasai athigam" and "the way you make me feel"

MS- i'm not sure why you cant' accept chittukkuruvi as inspired from dvorak's. As much i respect IR's works, i think chittukkuruvi ( pallavi alone ) is a blatant copy of dvorak's. I would also think - IR did this as probably a dedication to dvorak.

Hariharan..the prelude seems very similar to kandukondEn song. MS, can you let us know whether the notes are same, Please ? Actually, the string section phrases are common in TFM (or is it only in ARR's songs).

irwcm,
actually "mercury pookal" has more resemblamnce to diggin in the dirt by peter gabriel. watch for the guitar piece in the background . it comes through out the song. its a "inspiration" from diggin in the dirt..

exactly, the string section is very common in TFM.
Its Vanessa Carlton http://www.vanessacarlton.com

Thanks for checking that one for me.

MS- give us the notes.
Ok. I'll tell you which parts of the pallavi appears verbatim in dvorak's.
..starting line in the pallavi-
'chittu kuruvi vekkappaduthu
pettai kuruvi katrutharudhu'
..ending line in the pallavi-
'nithirai ittadhum methayil nithirai varumE'
Whereas the lines in between the above said lines ..
'katti thazhuva thazhuva -
kattil sududhu
.
.
andhappuramE tharumE sugamE'
-- are probably IR's own.

FLIGHT OF BUMBLE BEE MP3!
- From: hihi:-) (@ 128.111.113.76)
on: Thu Mar 14 18:26:05 EST 2002
note: the page read "flight of the bumblebee by dvorak". actually it was composed by rimsky korsakov. the version in the above link sucks big time. for starters please listen to the collection in the npr's great classical performances (or some similar title) released a couple of years ago. bobby mcferrin and yo yo mA's version wasn't bad. i have listened to great piano versions of this but i cant remember the names of the performers now.
bumblebee and butterfly both fly. what other similarities do they have for one being the inspiration for the other?

I have heard the flight of the bumblebee. It sounds exactly like its name - the sound of a bumblebee. It is very fast paced. In fact, go to pazhaya mambalam and follow a mosquito around and near mambalam canal. that is exactly what fobb is! I personally do not think it resembles o butterfly.

When I first listened to "aasai athigam vechu.." I thought it clashed with "The theme of Hatari..", especially the first interlude.
Thanks to whereisthisheaded for helping me recollect that thought :-). I think it clashes reasonably when it get faster in the end. Can someome post a good link..i'll try too. Meantime here is the link http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005Q66K/103-3632877-7573442
While listening to the slower version, it clashes with "Kya Kare Kya Na Kare" (Rangeela) Especially the first interlude. Ha! Albeit the Hatari theme is slower.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004Y9YB/ref=pd_ecc_rvi_f/103-3632877-7573442
So after long time I listened to other Henry Macini compostions. What surprise for me! I had feeling that "venilla...Venilla..venilavee" (Iruvar) orchestration resembled some song... yes! *The pink panther Theme* http://www.reelclassics.com/Musicians/Mancini/mancini.htm Does it?
Lastly, my crazy mind says *The Great Impostor* music sounds like "Papa ke thee hein..." Qayamat-Se-Qayamat-Tak
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004Y9YB/ref=pd_ecc_rvi_f/103-3632877-7573442
All of them are just the mood and music not the tune (discourages Karthik :-)). Karthik, Did you already discard these stuff?
Do you guys see any clash or is it my figment of imagination.

Hariharan:
I couldnt really find any similarity between KK and Vanessa's number. I think I've hreard this allegation earlier too.
Aswathama:
I think the similarity between Swasame and Ek ladki ko dekha end in a small portion of the ryhthm...even that would be a bit far fetched in my opinion. IMO, only a tune-based inspiration would amount to actual inspiration...I consider the actual tune to be of paramount importance and deriving inspiration for even the beginning of a tune would help the composer complete the flow and create his own unique version.
Bharath:
I had downloaded Digging in the dirt, the last time you mentioend about it with regard to mercury pookal. I couldnt find any direct similarity (meaning: I consider it a coincidence). Another ratchagan allegation doing the rounds is that 'Ol' McDonald had a farm' has been lifted by ARR for 'Bombay Madras Delhi' song. Well, when you sing both together, it does bring a smile to your face, but it ends there! :-)
NaNbaN:
Its indeed the mood and not the tune per se. The Great impostor example was interesting though. Thanks for reminding me of Mancini's music, gotto search for the tape I had and revisit it!
I finally managed to hear 'adi aathi' from Pasumpon. Music by Vidyasagar. There's an interlude in this song, where Prabhu is shown riding a horse (the poor horse) with the background of a huge bright sun all over the screen. That piece is somewhat reminiscent of FOBB, but IMO no direct inspiration. FOBB is a very distinct piece.
And no, O butterfly doesnt have anything to do with that either. If any, there's a small piece (lasting 2-3 seconds) in O butterfly which I think I heard in Jose Feliciano's 'Listen to the pouring rain'. But thats not really worth mentioning.

Karthik, I think you left this out of Deva's list:
Poojava from the film Priyamudan by Deva - lifts from two sources..the entire prelude along with the "ohhhoyi" chorus that you hear lifted from Viju Shah's "Gupt Gupt Gupt" song from Gupt
And in the second interlude of the same song the violin/flute parts are a Ctrl C Ctrl V from the flute/violin prelude of "One night in Bangkok" by Murray Head
