What is Contribution? It means doing some thing that has never been done before. Or playing a significant role. In Thamizh, the word that comes to mind is "puratchi."
I believe every aspect of our great Isai Gnani has been explored in this forum except for a particular genre of songs. In this particular kind of songs, Ilayaraja is the mudisoodaa mannan. No one from MSV, KVM, ARR can touch Ilayaraja in this matter.
Okay, enough of this, let me get to the matter at hand. I urge all Fans, Fanatics, Dissenters and everyone else to contribute to this thread. Let me do the Pillayar Suzhi:
1. Nethu rathiri yemma (ursurpassed description of what happened)
2. Nilaa kaayuthu (who would have thought that munungals can be put to tune)
3. Antha nilavathaan naa kaiyule pudichen (by the master himself)
4. Eduthu vach paalum virichu vacha paayum (if music can be sexy, this is it)
5. Maaman oru naal malliyapoo koduthaan (innocent but deadly)
6. Orampo orampo rukkumani vandi varuthu (no doublespeak here - every thing is direct)
7. Raathiriyil poothirukkum (what a romatic song!)
8. Vaada vaattuthu (yet another masterpiece by the master himself)

tigger, u have a long memory. :-)
but nothing was going on when we were exchanging 'jadagams'...in fact I was thinking that Neutral Fan was a woman, cos someone called male chauvenist claimed so in ur "Brand New Topic" thread. :-)
But then it turned out that Neutral Fan was very much a male. :-)

Once upon a time, in reply to one of Pras' posting, I refered to him as "dee."
He then said that he is a "daa," and I have been addressing him such, ever since.

There is a TV program called Leoni's patti manram. Supposed to be very popular in TN. I watched it on video here, the guy is really funny. In one program he goes :
....namma pasyanga english padam povanunga. onnum puriyathu. $%$RE&^%$#@T&^$%REY#@$T%#@ pchah!!! Antha kadasi pchah (supposed to be a kiss) mattum avanungalukku purinjidum. ushaar aayiduvaanunga....
Looks like Gowri is in a similar situation when it comes to Tamil. The only thing he understands in the songs are the "ooh, aaah" parts of it :)
FWIW I think the greatest contribution of IR to TFM is that he brought the village song to the forefront so that it was no longer
a "poor cousin" to other types of songs.

Tigger
I cannot accept your statement that IR brought village songs to the forefront. It just shows how litle you know of TFM before IR's entry.
From Thaalayam poo mudiththu to Aarodumm mannil endrum neerottam, village songs have always enjoyed a special place in TFM.
IR merely added to the numbers.
- From: tigger (@ 205.219.204.23)
on: Thu Feb 28 12:34:13 EST 2002
I was basing my observation on the fact that almost all of the popular pre-IR songs I have heard are not "village" songs. I have heard and enjoyed a lot of MSV songs, but the most memorable among them have never had a village ambience AFAIK.
The only songs I remember pre-IR are manapaara maadu katti, maatukaara vela, and now that you mention it, Thaalayam poo mudiththu. Who scored the music for these songs?

There you go again. Did you read the title of this thread? Why do some of you have problems comprehending even simple things?

>maadu katti, maatukaara vela, and now that you

Catch 'em!
1. Sittade kattikkittu singaaram pannikittu
2. Naan maanthoppil nindirunthen
3. Enna eduthu thannai koduthu
4. Paattukku paatteduthu
5. Chinna chinna mookkuthiyaam
6. Sivappu kallu mookkuthi
7. Adi ennadi raakkamaa
8. Ondru enggal jaathiye
9. Nethiyile neela nira pottu

12. Thai piranthaal vazhi pirakkum
13. Eri karai mele poravale pennmaiyile
14. Manapaara maadukatti
15. Oru pakkam paakkuraa
I took less than five minutes to recall the above. There are many more, if you want.
However, I bet you don't even know half of these songs.
