Let me start this one.(It had been there previously pls. forgive me!)

Ithaya surangathul ethanai kelvi...
Vaazhum manitharukkul ethanai salanam.."

Is Maalaiyil Pooththa Malligai Pookkale from Panam Penn Pasam? Could you please confirm?
Don't ask me how he does it, but Neel D is a diviner of some truly golden tracks of rare VJ songs. I just discovered another VJ-KJY spellbinder from Meenatchi Thiruvilaiyadal at the website.

Wondering /Interested /K. Prabhaakar Shaastri...
Thanks for the link to the song.
Wouldn't it be appropriate to post this duet by SPB-SJ in a thread that discusses the songs of these two artistes? So that it can effectively reach its fanbase / audience?
It is deceptive and misleading to not provide any details about the singers in the intro to the link (just "great song") and then leave it up to the participants of this thread to discover that it is neither a solo nor a duet that features VJ.
What is one to make of such a ploy? Earlier, a week ago, there was a list of songs - completely irrelevant to this thread - and a request for confirmation, also from you.
I can't be the only participant here who is perplexed by these posts from you. What is your genda, guy?

Oh, interesting. I didn't realize all these three names belonged to the same person! Hmm..As Naaz says, maybe you should post the links in the relevant threads. Do contribute in this thread if you have anything related to VJ.

Naaz: Maalaiyil pootha malligai pookalae is from Engamma Maharani-1981. (Yes, SPB-VJ, Music: S-G)
Naaz- isn't this Prabhaakar Shaastri (sometimes Parbhaakar Shaastri) same as Outsider/ Hansur Krishnamoorthi/ C Udae Shankar----? ( Why does he have a fetish for Kannada lyricist names?!)
I have good reason to believe he has recently adopted another poster's name - see the IR mp3 thread!

I didn't know that there was a lyricist footnote to these identities...such inspired anonymity indeed! :-)

Naaz/Saravanan
I think it is a feeling of insecurity that makes these people come up with such multiple nomenclature. This guy, for example, feels highly insecure of SJ's status amongst music fans and others in general. The thinking is that maybe some of these songs (with the links)might help others realize the potential of SJ, although she needs no such promotion. This is the same canvassing that Subbu and Naaz had refrained from doing. I can only sit back and smile and at all these feeble attempts.

I was only objecting to the deceptiveness in the link. The song was good and I enjoyed the detour. It was how the diversion came about that was troubling. Digression-nnu pottu, give this SPB-SJ duet a listen-nnu solliirukkalam. Not that there is a shortage of threads devoted to these artistes (at last count there were at least 4 exclusive threads for SPB/SJ that are active.)
Insecurities, like personal preference, are individual, and only the individual can address/deal with them. I'll leave it at that.

This week’s reacp of Sangeetha Sagaram:
I was a little late in tuning in---I missed the opening shots---
A young singer was singing a lovely VJ song ‘Ananda ragam ezhuthiya’- a very, very melodious song---
As it came to an end, KC reminded Vani of her song that goes ‘Lajja vathi lajja vathi’- VJ remembered the tune, but couldn’t get the words- she hummed the entire pallavi (albeit with an apologetic smile)—and the humming itself was oh so haunting! KC confirmed that it was a composition of Arjunan, and said that starting from the film Picnic, there was a series of films in which VJ sang—Vani nodded in agreement, and added that most of those songs were for actress Jayabharathi.
KC then asked her about the songs that she found difficult –(he added within a verbal paranthesis “notwithstanding your immense grasping power”- Vani’s eyes twinkled at this)—She recalled the awesome ‘Dhun thana thana’ that she sang under Salil Chowdhary’s baton for the film St. Thomas. KC asked her if she had taken a lot of time for the song—Vani gave a humble smile—(If that smile could speak, it would have said “Oh no, I took hardly any time”!)- She reminisced on the recording- it was held at Mehboob Studio in Bombay, and she recalled even the names of the musicians in Salilda’s orchestra who played the sarod and the sitar for the song—
Then came the moment that I was waiting for—she sang the song—Words fail me as I endeavour to describe the song—‘Dhun thana thana chilangae, dhun thana thana—ninde ninde thaalam’ –and then the AMAZING swara sancharas that made up the entire interlude- swift and spellbinding- Vani not missing a single note—as she climbed high, and as she came down—not a single grotesque distortion on her face as she manoeuvred those steep passages—just a look of immense enjoyment—and without pause, she embarked on the charanam beginning with ‘Ekantha rathiriyil’—enchanted night indeed!
She proceed to speak about the singers with whom she had sung in Malayalam- Jolly Abraham and Ibrahim (who also accompanied her on her numerous stage shows in the late 70s), and then she spoke about our treasured Jayachandran—her eyes lit up when she went down memory lane recalling her timeless duets with JC—she broke into ‘Vasantha kaala nadhigalilae’---she sang the entire pallavi, and her song was as good as ever-- ninaivalaigal thodarndhu vandhana—as she remembered that song sequence wherein Kamal, Rajini and Sridevi came together- KC tried to ape MSV’s lines for Rajini, but Vani, with a chuckle, beat him in that as well- her voice took on a gruff masculine tone very briefly!
She then proceeded gleefully to sing the English song that she had sung in a Kannada film, and the ‘Happiest moment’ was with us in an instant—she held on to the ‘Oh’ in the end for what seemed to me to be eternity, and when I thought she had gone too far now, she went one scale higher with that ‘Oh’ and made me see stars----she burst into helpless peals of laughter afterwards, thinking back perhaps on the English lyrics---
KC enquired of Vani whether she was of the opinion that a strong classical base is required in order to make it big as a playback singer. Vani replied that one was certainly at a distinct advantage if one knew Classical music- but she would not say that it was absolutely necessary- she gave the example of Kishore Kumar (“Kishoreda”)- who was absolutely at ease singing classical compositions even though he was not formally trained- she recalled and sang a few lines from a duet that she (?) had sung with him for Madanmohan (whom she described as a “beautiful ghazal composer”)- ‘Pyaar kabhi kam, na karna sanam’
Her next recall was a duet with Mukesh for RD Burman- ‘ Zindagi mein aap aayae’
Then she recalled another Mukesh duet, this one for Jaidev (“another great composer”)- ‘Le chalo le chalo—ab tumhee le chalo—soch lo soch lo—ab tumhee soch lo’’- she really enjoyed this one—
Speaking of Jaidev, she mentioned that she sung for Sridevi’s first Hindi film Solwa Sawan (the Hindi remake of Pathinaaru Vayathinilae)
The other VJ songs that the aspiring young singers sang this time were- ‘Priyathamaagum oru ragam’ (the end of both the charanams ‘Varu—varu—varu’ and ‘Tharu—tharu—tharu’ were moments of lingering beauty—how I long to hear the original in Vani’s voice!) and a soulful duet that goes ‘Inchiriyo poothiriyaai ninadharathil—endhan soppanam ponvilakkai nin nayanathil’ – These singers should make it big—if they continue to practice on such lovely songs!
As the programme ended, Chitra was shown singing a classical Malayalam song—her rendezvous with Sangeetha Sagaram begins from Monday—the JC episodes seem to be over—
This week’s treasured moments—the narrator ruminating aloud that unlike the present day singers, Vani belonged to a bygone era when singers were particular to know the meanings of each line in the lyrics-- a shot of Vani writing something thoughtfully--- our pony-tailed violinist who gave an enthralling interlude music for ‘Priyathamagum oru ragam’--a snap of a beaming Vani, singing with a group of school children—a snap pf Vani with Vyjayanthimala----the narrator describing Vani as a daughter that Malayalam did not beget---KC raising his arms high, and nodding in absolute ecstasy as Vani was nonchalantly doing magic with ‘dhun thana thana’---Vani singing ‘Seemandha rekhaiyil’ in the closing shots--

May I just say "I envy you, I am jealous of you" because I really do! Oh, how nice it must have been watching these episodes - a visual treat. Well, I should be happy that I am practically watching the program myself with your pretty comprehensive descriptions.
Anyway, do you know if that song from St.Thomas is available on the internet? I searched in vain for it. I definitely want to take a listen.
But thanks again and remember I am still jealous of you:-)

These round-ups are getting addictive! Now I am beyond eager in my desire to listen to the "Dhun Thana Thana Chilangae" from St.Thomas. Kalai had promised a link a few weeks ago...I hope it arrives soon.
Thank you for your meticulous briefing of the show. It made my day!
