To start this thread, here are the punch lines in Rajini's latest "Baba"

  "How do you explain the controversy surrounding the music you composed for "Padayappa'?
  
  ARR:
  People have certain expectations about my music , but in "Padayappa' I had to cater to Rajnikanth's image, not mine. His audience need something catchy, instant and down to earth. But others did not like that. They were like "Why should he compromise on his music?" In 'Muthu' I did a score which I think did not suit Rajni's style. But it was a hit. I took six months to decide on accepting these scores. I didn't want to take any risk. Maybe it was wrong. I don't know. Anyway "Padayappa" has clicked in a big way and no one is getting up during the songs, so its fine. Besides Rajni loved the songs and that's what kept me going."

  There is not going to be anything against JJ or anyone else in the movie. He is making sure that he is not rubbing anyone the wrong way before he releases the movie. This is reflected in the way he called Vijayakanth as his 'sagotharar' after joovi wrote a cover story on the 2 of them, the way he sent a bouquet to JJ, the behind the scenes manoeuvring to get the theatre rates hiked by colluding with the AIADMK goverment (source Alaigal and other pulanaayuvu pathirikkai). He is showing his flexibility by appeasing everybody in the interests of his movie.... :-)

  Seet : I agree. He doesnt want to jeopardise his blockbuster release of Baba by doing something stupid against any one who might influence his success.

  Here's the latest on the superstar's 'Baba'. Apparently, a scene in the film required some cars to rush into the crowds and scatter it. During the shooting, one car lost control and ran amuck, injuring three women junior artistes. They have been admitted to a hospital. 'Baba' Rajini was, however not present at the shoot, at the time of the accident. Meanwhile, buzz has it that director Shankar and writer Sujatha wrote the second half of the Baba story and completed the script. The superstar, when asked about working in 'Baba' after a long gap, says "It's like Sachin facing the Pak team after a three year break. He does not know how the pitch behaves and how the ball will turn!" In a contemplative mood, Rajini adds, "Where do you find happiness? The old are not happy, nor are the young. The rich are not happy, nor are the poor. The married are not happy, nor are the unwed. True happiness is found only in the work that you do." Is that why Rajini returned as 'Baba'?

  WhyNot: I felt in the early days of Padayappa songs release that they were not as suitable to Rajini as were some of Deva's songs (in annamalai or batshaah) or Ilayaraja's songs (earlier movies). But after seeing the movie, most of the songs seemed to fit the Rajini recipe.
  
  I dont know why you posted that article, but Padayappa was indeed controversial. Any thoughts?

  It seems karunanidhi is writing a song for Baba. If this is true, wont this be the first ARR-Karunanidhi song? This is likely to be released before yelelo.
  
  IK, I posted that article cos I felt it sheds light on what we can expect from Baba. More Rajini music than ARR music.
  btw, wat was the controversy regarding padayappa? I wasnt following the scene closely at tat time, but I heard rumours tat a bunch of rajini fans attempted to attack ARR or something weird like tat. but the music was so suitable for rajini. goes to show ARR's versatility.

  WhyNot: As you said, those were rumours. They go like this. Rajini fans went berserk at some function where they threatened / attacked or even Boo-ed (I dont remember which one) ARR for bad songs in Padayappa. But they failed to realise that Rajini personally OKs songs before they are released, which is normally a director's job. But as you might know Rajini, Kamal etc have a great influence on all aspects of their movies and dont let directors dictate terms. So it was not really ARR's fault (EVEN IF songs were bad as some people claimed in the beginning).
  Abt Karnanidhi writing a song for Baba, that is very much true and it is rumored to be the Rajini intro song in the movie

  I dont think it is rajini's fault or anyone's fault tat there is so much hype about Baba. besides they only have to suffer once in 3 years, so they shud be grateful. :-)
  it's not like the tamil movie industry has been raking in big profits lately, so a baba being released in august (much better than more peak seasons like deepavali/new year/pongal etc) is not gonna do much damage. IMHO.
  
  Raja, so wud u know if Karunanidhi will be first writing the lyrics for which ARR wud make the tunes or wud it be the usual lyrics for tunes format? ARR is not averse to making tunes for lyrics. It wud be interesting to have such a song for baba.

  I completely disagree. Rajini is who he is. He is a superstar, no doubt about that. No one else had this type of fan following, probably with the exception of MGR. It is probably becos they are all jealous of Thalaivar. As usual he is god-fearing and believes in himself too, and will come out on top again, even though he feels all tensed up abt Baba. I read this in one of the links above.

  how many other producers/actors' films are slatted to be released during august? i guess very less. But rajni's film is planned to release in aug. This shows that rajni's film doesn't want to affect(adversely) the collection of other actors, directors and producers. There might be a few that are planned to release, but what can baba do for that? can it be slatted to release later? won't it affect more films if done so? such kind of feeling or comment never arouse b4(IMO), why now? is it a kind of back door publicity for rajni's movie or is it a kind of back side dig-at rajni? why shud one bother about rajni's film if one has a good movie in one's hand? think in other way. assume that in a 3 theatre complex 2 theatres show baba during aug and 1 shows one of these aug released movies, dont u think this movie will be benefited by the extra crowd that came in hope of getting baba's ticket but failed to get one? also, i dont think that the crowd that has purposefully come to see this "other aug" released movie will go to baba shunning this movie(one of the reason might be getting baba tickets might not be so easy). imo, baba will force(compel) people obsessed with thso thso thso thso mega serials to go to movie. in such a situation these "other aug" released movie will be like "oodu payiru (in agriculture terminology)" to the main payiru(rice/sugarcane) baba and get the rich nutrition along with the main payiru.

  Shankar is reviewing Baba script and is spending as much time on Baba as his own movie Boys.
