Cool it: Please dont say such things. I love this thread. My thalaivar's punch lines are as important as the songs in the movie. Tell me any other actor(s) with such a fanfare about his/ their punch dialogues. I see some song related news too, which I dont think is completely irrelevant.
Raja, thanks man. Please update with the songs review once they are out to justify this thread.
Why Not: I did see that Japanese actress in one of the pictures (in the links above). Are you sure that everything about that actress was an AF joke? If that is true, then I really fell for it, more due to my fanaticism abt Rajini.
By the way I also read that the Japanese actress is acting as Rajini's adopted daughter in the movie where he leads a saintly life with his adopted daughter until some villain kills it all and makes Rajini jump into the dishum dishum fray (primarily aimed at JJ and conveying Rajini's message abt entry into politics)

Why Not: Here's a cut and paste from a Yahoo DF. It still validates the Japanese actress part in Baba. Not that I am a fan of the japanese actress (kuchi kaachi nakamoto or whoever), but I believe this is true.

Rajnikant's forthcoming Baba is expected to be a superhit. Is politics next?
Rajnikant is back, promising a big bang. After a fairly long spell, the
south Indian superstar has got fans waiting with bated breath for the
release of his next film, Baba, in August.
The charismatic actor's recent focus on politics explains the drought in his
films. Like Badsha, which appeared before his well-deserved hiatus from the
screen, Baba is about communal harmony. Rajnikant is also its producer.
If the wait was trying for Rajni fans, it was even more agonising for
director Suresh Krishna, who has been pivotal in many of the superstar's
blockbusters. Rajnikant was contemplating whether to sign him or other
directors like K.S. Ravikumar and G. Shankar, the latter of Indian and
Mudhalvan fame. Rajni has opted for Manisha Koirala as his heroine. Apart
from a host of local heroines who were vying for the role, Aishwarya Rai was
another favourite option.
Kaiko Yamata, a 22-year-old Japanese danseuse from Osaka, plays Baba's
foster-child. She was short-listed from a number of Rajni's Japanese fans
learning dance in Chennai. This unusual little group was formed after the
interest generated by Muthu in The Land of the Rising Sun. Yamata would be
only the second foreign actress to star prominently in a Tamil movie after
the late M.G. Ramachandran introduced the glamorous Thai actress Meeta Rung
Raatha in the famous Pacchaikkili song-and-dance sequence in Ulagam Sutrum
Valiban, the magnum opus of the seventies. Other foreign starlets have
played less significant roles in equally insignificant films like Melnattu
Marumagal.
It is this professional approach to film-making that has made Rajnikant a
raging success, apart from his inimitable style. The style is bound to be
more inimitable now as the star, much to the dismay of the many street
artistes who make a living out of mimicking Rajni, has banned any form of
imitation of his gestures or expressions. He is said to be coming out with a
list of such gestures that mark his style, with the intention of getting
them patented!
Rajnikant is a sensation, and this ban only goes to prove how many people
thrive on the essence of his personality to bring some fun into their lives.
He was the first in over 25 years not to be afflicted by the Sivaji Ganesan
syndrome in Tamil cinema.
He appealed to the new-generation, fast-track film-goer, who was getting
tired of the melodrama of the fifties and the sixties, and the
holier-than-thou public image that superstars of the time were wont to
sport.
Rajni entered this milieu, unafraid to speak about his fondness for the
bottle and unaffected by the stereotypical presentations of Sivaji or MGR,
from which even upcoming stars like Kamal Hasan were unable to extricate
themselves.
The grapevine has it that although Baba will undoubtedly be a superhit at
the box office, it will be Rajni's last movie before he enters full-time
politics. The shooting for the Rs 5-crore project is now in full swing at
the sets on a private property in Guindy, Chennai. While Rajni is expected
to rake in Rs 25 crore in profits from Baba that includes television
overseas rights he is known to have shared his profits with childhood
friends and indigent film producers and artistes, right from his maiden home
production, Valli.
There is no doubting Rajni's sincerity and commitment to social causes. His
philosophical bent of mind, religious beliefs and community-oriented
sentiments have all gone to create an aura around the man. It has been,
therefore, inescapable for him not to carry his off-screen message on-screen
as well. The story of Baba is said to have been influenced by godmen like
Shirdi Sai Baba and Moti Baba, both hailing from his native state
Maharashtra, and the controversial Sivasankar Baba, nearer home in Chennai.
The first two, in particular, were revered as much by Hindus as by Muslims
and a message like this should appeal to Hindi film audiences if dubbed into
the language. More so, after the violence in Gujarat, though Rajni could not
have foreseen such a heart-wrenching turn of events when he launched Baba.
His own broken innings in Hindi filmdom, combined with the presence of
Manisha Koirala, and a possible guest appearance by friend-in-Hindutva,
Shatrughan Sinha, should do the trick. Why, even the head-band that Baba
wears is seen as a stylised improvisation on the one sported by Shirdi Sai
Baba.
Otherwise, the deer symbol that Rajni shows with his hand which has also
become the film's official logo and his punchline in the film have all been
patented. Their commercial exploitation by individual groups, often leading
to misconstrued socio-political messages from the superstar have thus been
banned. Of course, the media is exempt. But it won't be long before official
sponsors enter the scene, against specific payment. Already, there is a big
market in the music albums and television rights of Rajni-starrers with the
long gaps between films helping the exhibitors and distributors to extract
their last paisa out of his film.
It was only two years ago that Rajni's wife Latha exploited the commercial
value in souvenirs donning his name and style when she organised the silver
jubilee celebrations of his entry into filmdom. It sure was a pointer to the
unending possibilities.

'Baba' completes first schedule!
The first schedule of Rajinikanth-starrer 'Baba' has been completed amid tight security at the Campa Cola Grounds, Chennai. Everyone entering the Grounds were frisked and any cell phone or other communication equipment they carried, were confiscated until they left the Grounds. Even the director Suresh Krishna was detained at the gates for 10 minutes, since he did not carry his ID Card. All stars were provided with fully air-conditioned cabins with name plates on the door. They were however requested to entertain journos and give interviews only outside the Grounds. And were strictly advised not to speak about the film (Mani Ratnam-style?). The lead-lady, Hindi actress Manisha Koirala, spent her spare time talking to financiers in order to get her brother's Tamil debut film on the roll. She has now returned to Mumbai and is waiting for the next schedule at Mysore, to start. Meanwhile Aishwarya, the superstar's daughter is playing assistant to director Suresh Krishna during her free time and is also tracking all the recent releases. Honing up on her directorial skills?
