  Hi all,
  I just wanted to clarify something. Nila Kaigirathu is not Hamir Kalyani right? Because there is behag and Darbaari Kaanada in it. I do not know if I am right but this is what I feel. Comments?
  Also is Ragasiyamaai from Dumm Dumm Dumm in Malayamaarutham?

  Saraswathi as per carnatic.com is given the follwoing aaro/avaro:

  also there is another raga called saraswathipriya which is saraswathi but M! in place of M2 in the descent. There is a lengthy composition of L.Subramanian in this raga.

  The song Yengae naan kaanbaen from Saadhanai, is it MMG? Because sometimes back I raised this question saying that it has more resemblance of Mayanginaen solla thayanginaen unnai virumbinaen uyirae and somebody clarified it that Yengae naan kaanbaen and Mayanginaen solla thayanginaen are in chaarukesi.
  
  I'm not knowledgeble in classical music. So please get it clarified once again?

  MS...I was surprised that "Nethu raathiri emma.." is vakulabharanam...you are definetly profound and seem to have good grasp over carnatic music...i think i will have to play that song and see whether it resembles the "veetla visheshanga" song "ye jinja jinukku than intha onakkuthan chittukuruvi"...that you named as vakulabharanam..thanks anyway :-)

  Btw how about the MMG-charukesi confusion of yengae naan kaanbaen of Saadhanai?
  
  If I am not wrong Srirangam Lakshminarayanan's Classical Illayaraaja points out that yengae naan kaanbaen is inspired from Kalelaam Maanikka kallaagumaa. When I posted my question isav(if Im not wrong) said yengae naan kaanbaen and mayanginaen solla thayanginaen are chaarukesi. Is there any genetical similarity between MMG and chaarukesi that makes us to place this song in MMG as well as chaarukesi?

  One observation: VaguLaabaraNam is mostly used in context with Sheik-songs, Qawali etc.
  
  Nethu Rathri - kamal comes as a sheik
  Nagoor pakkathula nammaLoda petta - Shivaji sings Qawali.

  neenga koduththirukkara chila naan kEttadhillai. so cannot comment a lot. Not only that, but these songs are quite confusing. To find a base raga is challenging.
  
  (2) engum niraindha iyarkaiyil - can't place the raga since there is a glaring scale change in the song.
  
  3) Azhagiya kannae uravugaL neeyae from Udhiri pookaL - defeats
  
  4) ALLi thandha bhoomi annai allava solli thandha vaanam from Nandu -no idea
  
  5) Yaedho Ninaivugal kanavugaL manadhilae malarudhae from Agal Vilakku - starts of in sumanessa ranjani but goes to a scale change in sharaNAm and reverts back.
  
  7) vaan maegangaLae vaazhthungaL paadungaL from Pudhiya vaarpugaL - just a melody based on mohanam may be..

  MS....What is 'Kalangada'? There seems to be one song in Kalangada - "Pattathu raani paadum paadal" is it a carnatic raga (Hindustani?)...there seems to a kamal & ambika song too in this raga by IR where the song is pictured in egypt/arabian ambience....can someone name the song and give notes of this raga...sounds so new...(saw it in some TV programe)...or have i miss-spelt the name...i don't know...it also sounds very arabic.....another doubt is ,,..is "unnai naan santhithen nee aayirathil oruvan"...is it subhpanthuvarali...
  And Kupps, as MS said, all the songs you have listed do not seemingly fall into perfect raga bases, as observed by MS too...Vidhya thanks for the vakulabharanam example..is "kinnathil then vadithu" song composed by IR...if yes which fim? (is it ilamai oonjaladhugiradhu)
