The National Award for best actor last year goes to Anil Kapoor!!! This, for his so called "intense performance" in Pukar.
Raveena Tandon bags it for her unreleased film, 'Daman'.
A Tehelka-like expose' on the the award committee is the need of the hour IMO.
I will await more details and post them soon.

Suppose somebody made this comment when ARR won for MK :
"Any true music lover should feel more disgusted that ARR GOT the award, rather than feel sorry that IR did NOT get an award. Anybody who feels otherwise, is not a music lover and merely a sycophant... "

IR's eligibility is purely based on the performance in "Bharathi". Leave the whole previous scenarios. How many music lovers (as per rajaG's assumption) hate wonderful Bharathi songs. Can any MDs reproduce the BGM effect IR poured in the movie. Let me count how many true music lovers hate that? Tell me which movie else can compete with Bharathi for the year in terms of music. This is an open question? Hope shadows of ego don't hide eyes!

I am also for this debate...guys come out...why this hate to IR?. IR has really worked hard for Hey Ram, and Bharathi. I would also like to whther any other MD had done a remarkable work like this. Please don't say sandeep chowta :-))

Flifo,
rajaG's point is about Bhavatharini being chosen for the award in comparision to other feamle playback singers. Neither did he claim about his ownership on music or his dislike/like towards IR.
To answer you query, let us include all individuals ireespective of their practical music training. By no standards - voice quality, singing ability, versatility is Bhavatharini better than her contemporary counterparts. I'd appreciate if you can compare her with past winners on various attributes and show that her performance is worth any award!

Fliflo: All I can judge from your comments on my post is that you are neither a music lover, nor do you understand English composition.
Your comment "even animals have right to listen and comment like a donkey..."---I don't disagree. You are a living example.
Just to make it crystal clear to you, I have not questioned IR's talent, merit, or claim to a National Award (be it Bharathi or otherwise). As much as I am a fan of SPB, I felt thangaththaamarai magaLEy did not deserve a national award. But Bhavadharini's award takes the cake---in this race for incompetency (on the part of the panel).
There is a group here whose brain activates a trigger whenever IR's name is mentioned. In a hurry to defend him, they don't even try to read the posts carefully to ascertain if the post is complimentary, impartial, or a slam. Don't you belong in that.
Much as it may come as a surprise to you, music is a "fine" art. It may be appreciated by everybody, but it is NOT meant to be evaluated by all and sundry. I don't know where you fit in nor do I care. But if you disagree I may have to conclude that your tastes are common too--yep! the type which finds SAR's repetitive melodies hummable. Because, you have seen Auto driver muniyaandi, Porter Pakkiri, and Black Marketeer PaLanichchaami whistle those tunes.

Interesting piece of info that indicates that the choice of awards were a bit controversial and there were disagreements among the jury on this :

This award is given to Bhava for the way she has rendered this particular song. It is not given keeping in mind her faults in the past.
Right from the first time I heard this song I have been liking it. She has certainly sung this song very well. And as somebody said earlier in this forum that it was picturised on a girl, probably it would have suited the situation very well. In fact, I have been wondering if anybody else could have sung this song in a better way. Although some like Chitra, Swarnalatha do look like very good contenders...!!!
Remember how Minmini won it for "Chinna chinna aasai.." when she had no earlier hits. So, almost all the time the award is given keeping in mind one's performance in a particular song rather than their (average) performance all along !!!

WE ALL KNOW that Bhava does not meet the definition of a "playback singer" and is not in the league of Chitra, Sujatha..etc.
However, I agree with KS. The award is given for that particular song and not for her "entire" resume..
In fact I liked the song only after I saw the movie as it matched the situation aptly.
My humble opinion..

Bhavatharini sucks period. neither the song nor the singer deserve a National award. It is an average melody and nothing great in that song and Bhavatharini has not done anything extraordinary in that song!! Well, talk about a few other numbers from the same movie.... bombay jayashree in ninnai charanadainthen - well she sure did a good job! and there is a candidate to be considered! but bhava???? ughhhh God save the country !!!!

KS: If you try hard, you will find rare qualities even in "aNNe aNNe sippaayaNNE"--enough to even justify a National award (There! Some idiot is going to justify IR's music, background score, orchestration, Flute pieces etc. etc. for kOzhi koovudhu now):-)

Arasu - that song might be bhava's personal best but definitely not the best song / singer of the year!!!

Arasu Dakshin:
Thanks.
Atrocious:
The award given to Bhava is not atrocious!!! She was certainly good this time and not as your firwst 3 words say.
rajaG:
"Mayil pole.." is a song you don't have to think or try hard to find out those rare qualities. "Mayil pole.." is a song which impresses the very first time to most people...that is how songs should be..thatis what makes them great. In fact, when I heard the song I could sense the innocence in the song (or of the character on screen) and to to my surprise it turned out that it was picturised on a girl!!!
To this effect, Bhava has certainly done justice to the song. In fact, I felt the first time I heard the song and still am of the opinion that she has sung the close to as good as Janaki had sung "Inji.." in Thevar Magan for which she got this very award.

rajaG;
FYI, I did not say anything about you mentioning IR in my first posting. Second posting was more for others and which reflects my total outburst on Bharathi music being ignored.
It is all against your comments which do not contain any music related stuffs. So whether somebody is a music lover or not is totally not your business. I just asked you who you mean to be "a true music lover". Please answer to that!
"Any true music lover should feel more disgusted that Bavadharini GOT the award, rather than feel sorry that IR did NOT get an award. Anybody who feels otherwise, is not a music lover and merely a sycophant masquerading as a fan of music"
What makes you feel that you are a true music lover and others not?? Let me tall you something "Mayil Pola song was just magical and she has sung that particular song so nicely". You commit something there, which reflects a total arrogancy and later you defend that others don't understand what you said.
Donkeys shout at Devils you know...

Arrogancy back on track. Remember, others tounge can be worser than yours..Good be always treated good. Bad will equally be dealt.

Surely you must have better things to do than wasting your time in this thread:-) Just for the record, I agree with your comments on bavA getting a national award.

Bhavatharini deserves the national award for the following reasons :
1. Setting a perfect example of how NOT to sing.
2. Demonstrating to the world that no matter how good a composition is, a singer can ruin a composer's reputation by making mince meat of the happless song.
3. Reminding us all that National awards should not be taken seriously anymore.
PS: We might soon hear of Susheelas, Latas, SPBs and KJYs pretending NOT to have received national awards at all :)

I am deeply disppointed at IR not getting the award. Interesting to note that the multilingual projects he got associated with, bagged the awards.
Tamil - Bharathi
Kannada - Scribbles on Akka (documentary)
Malayalam - Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal
English - Pandavas (animation film)

eden,
there's an interesting fact:
'Inji Iduppazhaga' fetched Janaki the N.Award. Several years later, it's copy in Hindi by Anu Malik (!@$#%) 'PAyale chunmun chunmun' fetched the N. award for Chitra.
Shows how poorly informed the jury is, and how bad the selection process is.
