Once again I reinstate this query , The simple reaon is we always blame and ignore MDs like Deva,Vidyasaagar as they carry an image of outfight copiers , We (Atlese majority of us) tend to take away the credits even if they come out with some geniune stuff. Is it not true this time with ARR, atlease I feel narumugaiyae as lot of similarities with 'Thanga Magan inru singa nadai'
from Baashaa. Recently I am also finding, I am not sure however that 'Enakke enakke' song from Jeans resembles 'Hawala' song of VidyaSaagar from 'Subaash', I would like to get the response from our world wide TFM audience , Thanks Sathya for your response

Geetha: I am not saying just because Deva used the same Raga but If you have a closer look Situations for both songs look similar ( A Dream after success) and also starting three notes for both the songs are Ga Ma and Pa . There are a number of songs like Kaadhal Kavithaigal Padithidum Neram from Gopura vasalile and Saravana Bhava from Kadhala Kadhala which are using the same swaras but the MD's have attempted to show some kind of originality . But Deva did'nt do that in Thangamagan Indru ??? More over why should one try to use the same raaga for a similar situation as another MD has done ?? Are there not enough Raagas to Explore ??

The interludes in Narumugayey seem to be in Maandu. These resemble two songs very much:
(1)The interludes of "Kaadhal Oviyum" (not the on from Alaigal Oyvathillai) by IR and Sujaatha.
(2)The song "Saayandhanam" from "Kamaldhalam" - a malayalam Mohanlal starrer.
The resemblance is stronger and not negligible.

Is the song "Kaadal Oviyam Kanden Kanavo Ninaivo" available in Real Audio format anywhere?
It's a beautiful composition.
Could any one help?

Sriram: Why shouldn't different MD's use the same Raga for songs with the same situation? What is your excuse for IR using the same Raga for Oru Pattaan Poochi and Innum Ennai - Both 'falling in Love' situations? Why shouldn't ARR or Deva do the same? I believe that ARR hadn't touched that Raga type before Narumugaye.....and he definitely got a very good result out of it. As trademark, he has mixed Ragas to create the song, but the result was quite different to Thanga Magan IMHO.....
As for the swaras, I feel that even if a similarity exists, G M P, they have been utilised differently....
Narumugaye: GMGMP- GMGMP- GM GM
Narumugaye Narumugaye NeeOru
P-N P G-MM
Naaligai Paarai
Thanga Magan: GMP P-P PP S N P P-P PP
Thanga magan Indru Singa Nadai Potru
Isn't there a difference? By the way there may be descrepancies in this notation, as I haven't used a keyboard to play and write.
Murali Shankar: Don't you think that Kaadhal Oviyam Kanden has Harikambori/Kamaaj/Naatakurinji touches to it? I couldn't feel the Maand?!?!? Please help. Where do the Maand touches appear? I feel that the Harikamboji Nishadham appears in the song.....I don't know the other song you speak of. One similar song I can think of is Palzamudhir Chlolai Ennakaaga Thaan form Varusham 16.....

Hi,
There is no connection between the two songs.
Narumugaye is in Kambeera Natai, thangamangan is in kedaram.
Infact the bgm in narmugaye moves wonderfully to mandu. The Ghatam and other scores in the songs are well placed. In thangamagan the saranam ends without any tune. Musically it sounds incorrect, there should be one more bar to the saranam.
keladi kannamani songs sounds like Tezab Sogaya...
both the song has the same start note, if Narumugaye is accected as copied then this is also copied by the MD.
Both the songs are way different apart.
BTW :Why should ARR copy from Deva when better choices are available
I happend to see priyamudam, theme rerecording score lifted from Titanic love theme and one song from BoneyM's brown girl in the ring. (sorry for changing tracks). Deva Epo thirundhavar..aandava.

Srikanth: Well said, I agree totally, the only thing is that both the songs are not set to PURE Kedharam or Kambeera Nattai.....I'd like some full notation on the Narumugaye song, so that I can research all the 'alien' notes and then I can judge the Ragam. Also, 'Manam Virumbuthe' from Nerukku Nerr sounds like Kambeera Nattai/Kedharam, I would very much appreciate notation on this song too......Thanks in advance......Also, totally agreed on the BROWN GIRL, what a BLATANT LIFT?!?!?

Srikanth: While I too agree that Thangamagan and Narumugaye are very different, I think Sogaya is a copy of Keladi kanmani and not the other way round.

Yes, I agree with Kaushik. Besides, there is no similarity except for the first line. Terming it a copy is very far-fetched IMHO

Can some one cllarify which song 'Sogaya' or 'Keladi Kanmani' came first , I think it is 'keladi kanmani' first.

Tezaab was released in 1987(or even before that)and keladi kanmani was released in 1990-1991

By the way, talking of Keladi Kanmani, the pioneer copycats of IR in HFM, Anand Milind had copied the above number as Chandni Raat Hai, in the film Bhagi, which incidentally also had the 'hit' number, a copy of Rajathi Raja (from Agni Nakshatram)

So, 'sogaya's is the source of keladi kanmani? I think keladi kanmani is one of the finest pathos songs of raja. but how much of sogaya did he copy? i am trying to find sogaya song. i think i heard chandni raat hai and i thought it was the same a sogaya. can someone please explain the situation here.

The Fan:
Neels is correct. Keladi Kanmani was copied as "Chandni Raat Hai" and ", "Raaja, Raajadhi Raajen Enra.." was copied as "Tapori.." in Bhaaghi, a Salman starrer. "Sogaya" is no where near the class of "Keladi Kanmani", but was NOT copied from "Keladi Kanmani", AFAIK. Anyway, that has nothing to do with this thread and it is only being used to counter accusations that ARR copied from Deva which, IMO, is AS ABSURD as IR copying from Anand-Milind !!!!!

I want a clarification. Some people seem to be referring to the FILM Keladi kanmani. Was the song keladi kanmani from the same film? If not when was the movie released?

The song keladi kanmani is from "Puthu Puthu Arthangal". That film has got great songs as well. The film "keladi Kanmani" is a Vasanth film with SPB and Radhika in the lead role. It's the famous movie with SPB's song "manil intha kaadal enri" which was, I hear, a big rave in the tamil community.

This song, which I have posted quite long back as a lift of `sO gaya' occurs in KB's film `pudhu pudhu arthangaL'. KB is one cheap director (in this sense) that he encourages (or pushes) almost all MDs into plagiarism! Even the great ones such as MSV & IR are not spared. (The MSV number is a `ninaiththAlE inikkum' song which is a replica of ABBA's mama mia)
