Very impressive naveen. You are fortunate to have been in an orchestra with renowned people. The way you recollect sure means that u miss them a lot. Perhaps you can form a string quartret?

Yes Swamiji. I miss them a lot. My master gets irritated whenever I tell him that I want to become an engineer or
computer programmer. He says 'what the hell you guys are going to achieve? you may earn more.. but why you waste
the talent? etc..!' I have uploaded a clip of a Tamil christian song composed by 'Cooling Rajiah'. we performed this song during 'Tirunelveli Medical College Carol Service' (Dec 1990 - I was doing my 12th std.) Most of the violinists are professors and doctors. I was on keyboard (it is very feeble) and the medical college students sung the song.
Recording is not good as the string instruments dominated a lot over voice. you'll find lot of 'kacha puchaas' as we practised nearly 8 songs within 3 days!
check my idrive account http://www.idrive.com/njebaraj you'll find the song 'messiah pirandhar' in the shared folder.
Note: Please don't mistake me as I'm bringing religious songs in here. I'm positive that you guys will understand me why I'm doing this. enjoy the acoustic instrument effects! Gem was the bass guitarist.. "Hello Gem, by chance if you read this message please email me".. :)

Naveen

Naveen,
It doesn't matter as long as it is music. I am listening to it right now. Nice arrangement, and considering you played it live, good job!
I got introduced to written music through hymns! My friend was very charitable with his books, and he gave me a variety of pieces written for the organ (Wedding march - I simply loved playing it). We even performed in local churches during christmas...
BTW Iam from Tirunelveli too!!

Swamiji, UV, Aditya and other friends,
Yesterday I played and recorded 2 piano solos. One is 'Messiah Pirandhar' and the other one is MSV's 'Athaan ennathaan.. Avar Enaithaan.. Eppadi solvenadi!!' The inspiration for this song is my Uncle Mr. Samuel Abeysekara who is one of the best Pianist/Organist in Madras. He is the Chief Organist in St.Thomas Mount 'Wessley Church'. When I was a kid, I used to sit near him and watch him playing old Tamil songs. Sometimes I play duets with him. Somehow I got the gift of playing piano in his style. My uncle got invitation from film industry but he was not interested as he is a very religious person and wanted to dedicate his music talent to God only. Till now he has'nt even earned a single penny out of music. (pozhaikka theriyaadha aazhu!) but he says he is very happy with whatever he has got..
well..
check my idrive for 'Athaan Enathaan' piano solo.

Hope you'll like the way I have played.

Naveen:
It's a very soothing melody. Since you have mastered a good style of playing piano. I suggest you to use your music and compositions for any noble cause. Now I think it's possible for you to focus in establishing the glory of melody which seems to be very rare in the current trend of music.

Aditya

Naveen,
"Aththaan En Aththaan" is outstanding. The chord progression is unbelievable. Have you played the original progression? Is it based on any standard progression?
- From: Naveen (@ 204.255.14.188)
on: Fri Feb 2 11:07:37 EST 2001
Payum puli,
I listened to the original song long back. I recollected the interlude, chords from my memory and played. so the chord progression may not be 100% correct. It is not necessary to follow the exact chord progression. As long as the chords do not spoil the mood of the song, you can improvise a song by playing in your own style :) anyway.. I'm glad that you liked the song.

fan,
I felt very bad as I did'nt visit your home even after your invitation. The main reason why I did'nt visit your home when you were in Davenport was, I did not want to see all your advanced audio equipments you had invested. ;)
That would have tempted me a lot, and I would have bought all the stuff you had without even caring about the credit card limit! Actually I had some financial problem during that time. Now I'm ok. We'll definitely keep in touch. my e-mail is njebaraj@yahoo.com
I remember playing 'Netru illaadha Maatram' when you visited my home. I'll play the song this weekend and upload to my idrive.

I did not try to offend you. Your chord progression is very good.
More songs please. And then I can make an instrumental CD for my car.

Sridhar,
sure. I'll play some melodious songs which babies love to hear. I suggest you to buy
musical toys (chimes) and hang it over the baby's cradle. please don't select toys which produce harsh sound.

Well folks, try the following:
Compose a piece of music that brings out each of the following feelings in the order in which they are given: Happiness, excitement, chaos, fear, anxiety, hope, and delight/happiness. So there must be six or seven movements (am I using the right word there - movements? Experts, please tell me), and the flow from one to the next should be seamless. Of course, whether you use the same theme for "Happiness" and "Delight" is totally up to you.
I think that ideally, such a piece of music must be played by a string ensemble. But of course, experts can achieve the effect with any instument.

Sridhar, Srikanth & Swamiji,
As you are interested in challenging chord
progressions, I'd like to show you a classical piece named - 'Sonata Pathetique'. This piano sonata was composed by our Beethoven dude! (perhaps you might have known..) I love playing this piece during my college days. 2 days back I played the first movement of this piece. (that too partly.. not the complete first movement)
This piece is kind of advanced level (LTCL grade piece). The introduction is 'grave' (very slow and solemn). At one point it picks up the speed and changes to allegro at the same time with high agitation. Then 'Tranquil' (free from agitation) & again back to agitation. overall it is a beautiful piece..
The piece is in C minor (harmonic minor) I'm
sure that you'll enjoy the way Beethoven has composed. I played this sonata without much practise. so if you find mistakes, excuse me ;) but I'm positive that you'll like the way I've played.
