Great job! The flow is good. Vijay's singing is great too. In the interruption for train sound,
have an overlap at both ends, to avoid a standstill. Also, you need to emphasize your
unique touches like the guitar, a little earlier
in the intro, otherwise the intro sounds like a
plain tamil folk.
Best wishes

Rjay,
just now I listened to Temptation. That was great. Did you add mirdhangam sound fonts inbetween? and that whyaaav... whyaaav.. funny sound was interesting!
Srikanth,
I've already listened to your cart song. Well, this time Vijay has sung well and his voice is very good. He is very good in modulation. but I noticed that he is not very sure about the tune in certain places. He did not hit the right note and makes the listener feel as if he sings slightly flatter. Usually this happens if the singer is not very sure about the tune or while recording, if he does not hear the music properly.
last question. is this our Vijay? (the person who started this thread) if yes, urimaiyoda I can pass more comments ;)

Srikanth,
I tend to agree with Naveen and Arularacan. You probably need a more rustic style of singing and the lyrics too. Both the lyrics and the singer do not convey the emotion conveyed by your lead violin solo (your instrumental version).
It could be also because Vijay has a soft voice.
Orchestration is very good.

Arul, Naveen, thanks for listening and the comments. Naveen, FYI, the 'mridangam' is actually a mridangam and ghatam combo filtered heavily to soften it. The 'whyav' is guitar fret noise pitch bended.

i couldn't get over the way you have played this song. this is undoubtedly your best (so far :-) ). i liked the african jungle theme, dancing in the moon and flowing with the river. this one surpasses all those. this is very very good. please come back with more.

Arul, I have made use of studio recorded
loops. That is the reason for the sound
quality. I am planning to buy a good synth.

aruLaracan,
Do you think Acid is bad ? I read an engineer mentioning in a recording magazine that - MIDI is old technology, micro delays/timing issues in sequencing etc. He likes loops. If you dont let acid change the pitch etc. It is just a mixing tool. Since it is all live music that is looped it sounds much better than sequenced music, IMHO. If we in India are only taking a fancy to sequencers the trend is changing here. As usual we are late to the party.

kiru: no. acid sonic is not bad. it's a really cool stuff that even i could make something sound nice out of it :-). (i just had a demo version that came with my "scanner"!!) as a music listener, i don't care if someone used acid loops or generated one's own loops in his/her own triton :-); it sounds good, that's all that matters; but ... :-)

Digression:
I sequenced 'Tom and Jerry' cartoon theme music in midi format. I know this is
not the right forum to inform, but somehow I'm tempted to share the fun piece :)
It is very short, but lot of good stuff in it. It was thrilling ripping out all
the layers while sequencing.

Hi Naveen:
Excellent Job with your Oldie Goldie - Piano Solo. I am curious to know if you have sequenced this composition on tracks. Do you have Staff Notation for this one. One last question, did you play it in one session and recorded it completely.
Left Hand playing seems to be well coordinated with the right one...besides playing something very significant with the left hand. Unless it doesn't intrude too much in your style secrets, please enlighten how you recorded this one - stage by stage.
I can't think of any qualified composer of this kind of music from india these days...keep it up.

Hi Aditya,
Thanks for your feedback. To be frank, there are many good pianists in India including my Piano teachers
(Mrs. Annie Gnanamuthu & Mr. Cleophus Antony).
Only very few pianists are exposed to film music. Most of them do not like to enter into film music world because
of the politics involved.
yes.. I played all the piano solos (except the sequences 'Piano & Strings' and
'Loneliness) in one go. (something like MSV period's recording!) I had to practise a lot to avoid mistakes!
Right now I do not have the score for 'Oldie Goldie'. I recorded the piece directly from my Acoustic Piano. The
fastest way to get the score is to play the piece again in keyboard and get the notes using 'Cakewalk' software.
It will take a long time if I write down notes manually. I'll get the score when I'm free.
There is no secret in my style. It is a variation of some old musicians playing style. thats all. but the left
hand right hand coordination needs a lot of practise. Once you achieve that, you'll realize the wonders we could do
with this wonderful instrument :)
if you have any question, feel free to email me.
Regards,
Naveen

MS,
My native is Palayamkottai. Right now I'm living in Illinois. we had an excellent Chamber Orchestra (Tirunelveli Chamber Orchestra) conducted by
Mr. Cleophus Antony. This orchestra performs 'String Quartets' (like V.S Narasimhan's), Flute concertos, Violin concertos, Organ solos etc. In Dec 1995, TCO and Trivandrum Choir combined together and performed concerts in various places in Tamilnadu (Palayamkottai, Madurai, Coimbatore) and Kerala (Tiruvella & Trivandrum). We had a conductor named Dariah from Swizerland who is an excellent flutist. (you can't even find a single mistake when he plays! his trills are very clear.. thats the reason IR was admiring Budapist orchestra) My master was playing Cello and I was at the Organ (sometimes Harpsichord mode). In WCM, the conductor will not give the count 1, 2, 3, 4 at the begining of the piece. he just show a sign to start. We had a difficult time in practising the mental count. But finally we did it very well.
I cannot forget the sound effect I experianced, when I was surrounded by string instruments. I did harpsichord accompaniment for a Flute Concerto. Each person will have a score and everyone should practise their portion well before the final practise. None of us other than our conductor had an idea about the whole piece. Most of the pieces have lots of contrapuntal twists. So if a violist or cellist misses 1 bar, sometimes we cant even figure out
that we are going out of sync. As I was playing Organ, the responsiblity was more on me, and everyone had a tendency to watch me all the time :( sometimes there will be rest for 28 bars and at the 29th bar we have to start at 3(3/4) th beat! everyone have to be alert all the times..!
One sad thing about our orchestra is, we purely concentrate on Western Classical Music and Church Music. whereas V.S Narasimhan band is very good in both WCM and Carnatic & they got very good exposure to film music.
Both my master (Cleophus Antony - Pianist) and his brother (Leo Antony - Violinist) has passed LTCL (Licentiate of Trinity College London - Performer) which is much above 8th grade
one funny thing about our conductor Dariah is, whenever there is a free time, he goes out of the room, stand in front of a tree and start singing and conducting. All of us were just making fun of him. but later I realised why he did that!
well. too much digression ;)

It's very impressive to read about your Music Background...No wonder your compositions sounds very authentic WCM. BTW, I have written a mail to your yahoo account.
