The discussion was later mostly focused on divine matters. I too was
sharing my thoughts about the same in conjunction with what he had
been talking. I was able to speak to him very normally and easily,
just because he is so kind to listen, even to me. As a token, a
returned blessing to my speech, he replied to our friends and me
about his deep very meaningful thoughts on divinity. I was trying
to record this wonderful event using my camcorder and another using a
tape-recorder. He was uncomfortable and he asked " Yeen? Yennathukku…
Idhellam?" He touched his head and said "Ellam inga vainga…idhula
record pannunga…" smilingly. We all just stopped. I should have
known that it might be uncomfortable for him. That was my mistake.
He spoke the most valuable things. En siru arivukku puriyavaikkum
muyarchiyil nan eedupattirundhen. Ondru mattum migavum sariyaga
purindhadhu, adhavadhu avar sollvadhu…anaithum migavum uyarndhadhu
endru. Andha unarvugalayo…nigazhvugalayo…varthaigalil kondu varuvadhu
migavum kadinam.
He took a rest for about three hours after the lunch. By this time,
all of the visitors who came left the home. The public program was
scheduled to take place at around 7-7:30 p.m. that evening. He got
up and came out of his room at around 5:30 p.m. Except Dr. Sankar
and his family members, I was the only visitor left at the home. I
just saw him coming down the stairs as a bright and soft white
flower. He had changed into his favorite white dothi and white
jibba. He sat on the chair and I couldn't believe now that it was
only he and I in the hall. He smiled, and he looked very fresh. I
think he had not even rested, but his face and eyes were so bright.
Dr. Sankar's family members asked him if he would have small
refreshment. After repeated attempts, he agreed to it and I was the
only one to give him company at the table again! Friends, I had
another chance to sit and eat with him. And again this time…it is
only he and I.
All the time I was with him alone, I never felt like saying
anything. I didn't feel like asking him anything. Later, I was
observing people asking him questions of the "Why?" and "How?"
category. Even for those types of questions he answered very
patiently, gladly and kindly. For example, after the meeting in the
evening, one guy asked a question like "Why are you not conducting
music concerts?" He very patiently replied (with a smile), "I don't
have any interest in doing that." He neither treated him differently
nor was he trying to let him know that what he does is the best job
in the whole world. He is a Maestro that created wonders…man. How
many years ago was it when a true Maestro was born before our Raja,
about 150 or 200 years? And even this time frame is true for the
Western world. How about Indian classical? How many hundreds of
years back?

This world may call many musicians "Maestro". Are they all true
Maestro's like our Raja?
With this "Maha Manidhar" what is there to ask? I do not know what
made me to tell him my past a bit. I slowly started telling him how
difficult my life was some time back during my studies and after my
studies. I also told him how many years I spent without a reasonable
job, and many other things I suffered back in India. During hard
days, his music has helped me a lot inside. His music was my
lifesaver. He just looked at me and said "mmm" and nodded. He
didn't say anything else. I am glad that I said that his music was a
lifesaver, rather than blabbering comments like "Your music is
great", because later on, he said on stage that if someone tells him
that his music is good, he feels it is as good as saying, "You are
breathing well". However, his breath saved my life.
Dr. Sankar Kumar's sister-in-law came to join with us and we started
talking casually. During this time of general conversation, when we
spoke about food, he mentioned how different types of food habits
cause us problems. He mentioned how a medicine / food for one person
may not have a chance to work on another person in the same way, for
the same type of diseases, because each and every human body is
different based on what they choose to do in their life with their
body. His message was focused on how prevention is always better
before any problems occur. But finally he never forgot to stir up our
thinking with the question of whether there is any disease that is
capable of being greater than "Birth disease" – "Piravi-ngara noyai
vida veru periya noi irukiradha- (Piravi Pini)."
I brought with me to NC. a "Thiruvasaham" book. I brought this book
with me from my home in India, four years ago. That was the only
Tamil book I took when I left India. And here he has come to bless
it. He is a greatest human being, and my most favorite inspiration,
and works for the same great Tamil scripture that I brought. I hadn't
even started reading it yet, even though I spent months in talking
about "Panniru Thirumuraihal" with one of my friends who happens to
be a "Sivanadiyaar" back in India.
That book was with me and was waiting for our Gnani's blessing all
these years. When I told him the truth and asked for his blessings,
he gladly received the book and on the front blank page he wrote his
blessings very slowly with his beautiful handwriting. He then
signed "Iraivanadi Illayaraaja". I had tears coming out of my eyes.
He also gladly agreed to take a photograph with me when I requested.
He smiles like a flower in that one. This photograph is the most
valuable thing I have in my whole life…
Imagine seeking Raja for the past eighteen years and even now.
Imagine looking for his name in newspapers, magazines and on movie
posters. Imagine listening for his name on T.V. or on the radio, or
in conversation of everyday life. I enjoyed longing for the presence
of Raja, whether in print, or sight, or song. God has finally
answered this longing in my heart, and here he is, next to me. My
seeking became my reality, and my reality exceeded all of my hopes
and dreams.
Friends…I had the greatest moment of my life with our greatest Raja,
that showed me the divine and a greatest "Athama" beyond a human. He
is a person who comes down to you if you see him (inside) with all
your love. Even today, when I think about that moment, I don't have
words to truly describe that feeling.
Thank you very much friends.
Love,
Prabhu S
