Paran,
HUGE DIGRESSION:
I am not familiar with names and I never claimed I am an expert on western pop music or classical music. If someone copies and I know the song I can safely say from where and why. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to decide whether a song is copied or not. And with the radio playing songs all day it is more than enough exposure to western pop. If you are exposed to western music good, I don't recall ever saying that YOU in particular are not exposed to western music. But if I did I apologize for the sacriliege, I might have committed that mistake in my infantile days at newtfmpage.
Anyway I like/have listened to songs by MJ, Madonna, Celine Dion, Sound Tracks of Ennio Morricone, Disney's sound tracks, some boy bands like NSync and Backstreet Boys, some Pink Floyd songs, Phil Collins, Bruce Springsteen, George Michael, Will Smith, Nellie (have to get some CDs), Bee Gees, TV soundtracks by James Newton Howard, John Williams (of course! Indiana Jones) Alan Silvestri's Music(Esp. Rocky Series and Back to the Future), Jerry Goldsmith, Henry Mancini(Pink Panther series), Elmer Bernsteins Movies, all of James Bond soundtracks, Ricky Martin, Mark Antony, Nellie Furtado and classical music station on Radio.
BTW I might have got some names/movies wrong as I wrote them off my head.
END DIGRESSION:
Anyway how would you know if I abbreviate Ennio Morricone as EM unless you see it atleast once in your life? Would that have prevented from not being familiar with the music if someone played it out without telling you the artist?

Paran, that's ok, this is newtfmpage, just have fun and enjoy. My comments are usually general and not intended to hurt someone in particular.

When I heard the song “Maan kutiye”from “Priyamana Thozhi” I was surprised to see the strange similarity from “Kuruku Siruthavale”from”Muthalvan.May be S.A.Rajkumar inspired from A.R.Rahman.Even the music is the same .This is special to HJ fans as this was the song that was made additional programming by Harris Jeyaraj for A.R.Rahman.

kannan,
I feel 'Kandu Konden Kandu Konden' Song has some similarity to 'Chinna Kannan Azaikkiran'. Similarly 'Enna Vilai Azaghey' has shades of 'Thanga Pathakkathin Melay'.

Have heard allegations that Vikram's 'En Jodi manjakkuruvi' derives from one of Khachaturian's tracks...but its humbug...at least I havent heard anything that resembles the Vikram track. Not so far, that is!

Had added the original of Anni TV serial's theme tune (Oh Anni). Composer Rajesh Vaidya has actually ripped off a 70s Paul Mauriat track for this! Added this last week in i2fs...forgot to mention here. Have added the original's audio clip but couldnt find a clip of the anni theme tune.

Vikram's 'En Jodi manjakkuruvi' is based on Jewish folk music. It is sung in their weddings etc. Line-by-Line

Three weeks back I posted in this thread the Jewish wedding song
Havah Nagilah
http://www.ifccsa.org/havah.mid
Kayaadha vakkapporu un kooda akkapporu
ponnapparu ennapparu ponnappola minnum theru
these melody lines and the chord progression are a total lift.
Also the intro to the song is a reuse of Spanish
Bullfight Pasodoble. Earlier (2 years back in this thread) I had linked the midi file.
Raja has also used the words Havah Nagilah themselves and also the melody contour of the phrase as an inspiration in My dear Marthandan's Uttalakkadi.

Non-tfm song of IR possibly inspired from Boney M's song. Details:
Telugu song "Enta enta dooram.." from Nirnayam
http://www.musicindiaonline.com/music/l/XY00000D05
is possibly inspired by Boney M's Night flight of venus, especially the starting piece and the beat patterns. I am doubtful but I thought I would check with other dfer's.

In the past, I wished that Vidyasagar should belong to the top-tier of MDs in TFM. He has made it to the top-tier, but I am having second thoughts, whether he deserves it. His list of inspired songs have been going up recently. The song 'Gundu Gundu Gundu penna' in Dhool is heavily inspired from AQUA's barbie girl song. Beats and couple of melody lines are surely lifted, if not the whole song.

While listening to the much hyped 'Boys' I came across interludes very similar to 'Baby elephant's walk' from old English movie 'Hattari'
In fact ARR has cut & paste the same piece in some of his earlier movies- Kadhal desam if my memory is not wrong.

MLTR had two hit albums and gr8 songs, I love them. But it is not possible for every body to know them. Actually, lot of people dont know the various Metal bands i know, coz probably it is not their hearing preference, i would not consider it as "Western Music knowledge". Just my opinion. I am not supporting anybody's opinion here, just my thoughts.

first one: "love love ethanai azhagu 20 vayadhiniley" from a old movie
second one: the mambo kind of prabhu deva song from the movie "manathai thirudi vittai"...when prabhu deva used to come in old costumes n dance like old actors....

The alai alai song in BOYS is similar to the song Kisi Disco Mein Jaaye from Bade Miyan Chote Miyan(Hindi) with difference in speed.
