The title of this thread is Copied SONGS in TFM.
I would like to reiterate that 'similarity in 3, 4 words' DOES NOT mean COPY. Going by the above criteria, most songs will find a partner in almost all types of music around the world.
The Raja Raja Chozhan song for instance seems to have unnecessarily taken our attention from the goal of this thread: which is to identify copied songs in TFM. :)
Thanks

Dear Ragapriyan,
don't you feel that "Kaadhal Kasakkudhaiyaa" resembles "Mayilerum vadivelanae"

Just an info.
"Poongodiyin Punnagai" is probably inspired from a Mallu melody (note: insp not copied) from "Yamini Nilavulavum" from a film called "M.V.Maaneswari Gupta". Both are extremely melodious.

Murali S:
In the two songs you mentioned, there is sizeable
difference in the way freq descends and ascends,
although there are similarities at several places.
On the other hand, the first lines of kaadhal
kasakkudhaiyyaa and kaadhal kanirasamE
are identical. My guess is that IR did this on
purpose. If I remember right, in the movie,
aaN paavam Pandiarajan's family owns a
"touring talkies" village movie theatre where very old
movies such as PUChinnappa's are typically shown,
and this song comes as a dream song for P'rajan.
It therefore makes sense for the hero to think
of singing the song in a old familiar tune.
Am I making sense?

There is no doubt RRC was inspired (better word) from aAja sanam.
Shanker :Oodakara marimuthu beat alone was inspired from a western band called Oregon. The songs sounds to be 100% original.

The bass lines of "ranganayakee...' ARR in Muthu
is note for note of Madonna's 'Like a virgin'.
IR & 'Priya"('78), Akkarai seemai arakinile is
a note for note copy of a mid sixties Hippy!! song
by a US group called Associates.
I,ve got more if any interest is shown.

The past few weeks I have been listening to the
song, endhan vaNNa kiLiyE from Kannedhire
Thondrinaal; MD: Deva. I kept getting reminded
of two songs, but only yesterday I figured out
which they are. The haunting guitar piece that
keeps repeatedly coming in the song is from the
first lines of the Hindi tune, achchaa tO hum
chalte hain (from some 70's Rajesh Khanna
movie). Then, the humming that comes in that song
is a direct lift of the humming from the song,
ponnukkenna azhagu, poovukkenna perumai
from the 70's Tamil movie, En Magan (MD: MSV).
Listening to Deva's songs has become very much of
a quiz contest of finding out from which old
songs he copied what! This exercise is very very
interesting. :-))

Raju,
Please take a look at the IR copy aditha pAdalgaL thread.
There ,I've mentioned an interview with SPB in Kumudam where they asked him why most of the MDs copy these days and they also said IR is also not an exception and they quoted "darling darling"(copied from Boney M) and this song from Priya as instances.
For that SPB said it was due to the pressure from the director who insisted on copying these songs. The same is the case with kanavu kANum vAzhkai yAvum from neengaL kEttavai. This time it was Raja himself who told about this.
AS far as my knowledge goes, these are the only songs which IR is accused for copying.

Shankar:
Some people can't seem to differentiate between "Copy adichchu pozhappa nadatharuthu" and "Alpa aasaiyinaala copy adikaaraudhu". IR must be cursing himself for yielding to pressure or 'alpa aasai' or even the unimaginable temptation of quick success. Imagine people saying "IR also copied so what ?" So nothing guys, except that IR has also scored about a bazillion original numbers.
I don't want to get down to this argument again. Only REALLY PETTY minds can place IR's copying of BoneyM and Deva's copying of EVERYBODY on the same scale. This will be my last word on this subject for some time. But to those who go on criticising IR for copying, please remember I'll be laughing my guts out from the aisles at your antics.

IMO, it is a waste of time to invest time in discovering who copied from where and with the result fry-up their brains out of frustration! IR's music has become a laughing stock these days for giving sterio-typic music with his original 'brain', in TFM, IMO. I am not sure even if he indulges in copying , whether he will be able to deliver some stuff to compete with DEVA,IMO. He has to really work hard. One has to wait (loooooong one!) and see.

observer,
even if deva stands upside down, he will never be able to come out with albums like yaathramozhi or guru. after listening to these albums i don't find deva's albums even worth laughing at.
in the name of objectivity there should never be a compromise in quality. u'r statements are a clear reflection the pathetic situation of tamil people whose tastes are degrading by the day.
even i can become a big composer tomorrow by lifting tunes from here or there.

Oh, really!!!!
What do u mean by stereotypic music???
If u don't see variety in Raja's work ,I'm sorry I can't help but laugh at ur ignorance.

Vijay,
You are VERY right, DEVA may not be able to match up to albums like GURU and YATHRAMOZHI. But he has been giving melodious numbers in TFM which Raja is doing only once in a while these days. So i am forced to listen all other MD's as i look for melodious numbers (ARR, DEVA, Vidhyasagar...)

Shankar,
If KK has some melodious numbers, i would CERTAINLY appreciate to it. As an objective lover of music (TFM in particular) that is what i always look for, whether it is IR , ARR , DEVA , Vidyasagar. IMO, no MD has showed the talents in orchestration like IR , some examples of 80's and GURU in the 90's. But why cann't i appreciate any numbers that other MDs are giving just because someone says "the second interlude guitar/flute piece is copied from some 60's hindi song"? If adopting tunes in this manner is such a HUGE issue, why not professionals like SPB, Mano, Hariharan, Anu sriram, Sujatha, etc stop singing for his compositions? why not directors stop approaching him? It is those professionals who have the right to protest in the first place. If they stop singing in his films , he will either stop composing or comeup with his own originals(in every respect). What happened in the last few years including the current year? He has been giving hits after hits. He might have done blatant copy of a whole song (GUPT) sporadically. But why blame him for all of his compositions by spending time unnecessarily to find vague resemblence in tunes? Because he is not your favourite MD? One thing is for certain,
this forum cannot withstand his success in TFM and hence makes no attempt to uncover the truth that he is giving melodious numbers.

observer,
pl. don't try to find excuses for deva's actions. u'r statement that people like SPB don't care about whether his tunes are original or not does'nt make deva a better musician. it only makes u'r statements look like 'vidhandavaadham'.
the fact everyone in the industry care about money. as long as they get monet they don't care whether it is deva or sirpi or someone else. SPB is no exception. even the great yesudoss is a very moneyminded person. i know a couple of instances which prove this.
raja's compositions migt look mediocre nowadays to even his hardcore fans like me because i tend to compare his songs either with the best of his eighties, or with albums like guru or yaathramozhi. the fact is that the standards which we set for raaja's music is very high.
if raaja had composed the same songs for vaali or kanedhire thondrinaal there would still have been people like u who would have ended up criticising IR for lack of melody etc.
KM, poonthottam, pooncholai, kizhakkum merkum, desiya geetham have all had their share of melodious songs in my opinion in the last year.
the only difference is that they look inferior in comparison to the standards which i have mentioned.

".......this forum cannot withstand his success in TFM and hence makes no attempt to uncover the truth that he is giving melodious numbers......"
u should also note that this forum has never failed to appreciate genuine good music. if i remember right it was u who started the thread on vidhyasaagar making quiet waves. and what a response it received! even i contributed some songs in that thread. if this forum is only filled with IR fans who are jealous about other MD's success then pray, why did the vidhyasaagar thread last long?
pl. answer the above question.
u have never answered my questions related to quality of music. u have conveniently evaded them. previously had given an example with A and B saying that u would prefer a product B(deva) to A(IR) since B has good design even if it is copied from a 'foreign' design, but is available at a cheaper price. but i asked u a simle question.
how can u claim that u'r product has better quality when u'r product itself is a cheap imitation.
u cannot answer the above queston. neither can any deva fan.

Hi,
One aspect of live discussions which is not so well represented in such internet discussion forums is - stoic, defensive SILENCE. Because people who discuss are never able to know that there are a whole lot who are reading but do not want to discuss about it. If so, the silence would attract some attention, thereby giving the silent obeserver a platform to speak out a few essential words.
Assuming I have had that attention,
"Guys such discussions suck big time. Sometimes silence is much better than to drag oneself into a garbage"
My opinion.
Mukund
